I admire the virtues which adorned your soul: love of God and neighbor, humility, obedience, patience, purity and the spirit of sacrifice. Help me to imitate your example in my state of life. Through the goodness and mercy of God, Who has blessed you with so many graces which led you to the true faith and to a high degree of holiness, pray to God for me and help me. Obtain for me a very fervent devotion to the Holy Eucharist so that I may love Holy Mass as you did and receive Holy Communion as often as I can. Teach me also to be devoted to my crucified Savior as you were, that I may cheerfully bear my daily crosses for love of Him Who suffered so much for love of me. Most of all, I beg you to pray for me that I may avoid sin, lead a holy life and save my soul. Amen.

4 THANK YOU! RELAY FOR LIFE THANK YOU! I want to thank everybody from our parish who got involved in this year s Relay For Life at Arlington High School. It was a great success and our parish team played a large part in this. While donations are still being tabulated as I write this, we have raised over $10,506. We had over 60 team members this year, a wonderful group of amazing people, which made us the largest team yet again. Special thanks goes out to the team captain Dusty Maiolo and Cathy D Orio for making and selling the Relay For Life Purple Bows. Thanks to all that joined our team including those who signed up that day. And of course, THANKS to all that generously donated to this great cause. Many people who participated were new to Relay For Life. They were surprised to find that it was a fun day with many events going on and plenty of food. There were relay races, three-legged races (with former and present DRE s participating as a team), can jam, pie throwing, and a Disney character lap which many dressed up in their favorite Disney character. In other words, it was like an all day picnic for a very important cause that has touched us all in someway. You could come for a short time and walk a couple of laps, stay all day and get involved in whatever you want, sit in the shade, or just visit to cheer on team members. Two very significant events were the opening ceremony which included a lap around the track by Cancer Survivors - of ALL ages; and the closing Luminary Ceremony where the track was illuminated by lights for all those fighting the fight and in memory of loved ones who have died from cancer - a powerful ceremony that began at 9:30 pm. I recommend many people to attend these in the future. Finally, a word of thanks to the Arlington Student Committee and Coleman Feighan who organized this event for Arlington High School and hope it will grow into a total community event. Msgr. Desmond A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 26, 2016 As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him, I will follow you wherever you go. And to another he said, Follow me. And someone said I will follow you Lord, but To him he said, No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God. How often we hear the expression of a Wake up call. Sometimes it is reflected in a health emergency, a financial crisis or family need. We are shaken from our routine and respond to an important need. During the summer months our pace often slows, a more relaxed way of living takes over vacation, diversion, rest. The scriptures today can call for a change. As Jesus turns and begins His journey to Jerusalem, well intentioned persons commit themselves to accompany Him. They do so with reservation. The little word but gets in the way. The sense of urgency of a disciple is weakened, as the challenge of discipleship is sounded. Pope Francis has designated all of us as missionary disciples. My journey today is based upon my encounter and relationship with Jesus. His call continues, the urgency of building the kingdom is real and repeated today. I ask myself, what does it mean to make the promise to follow Him? THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME First Reading: 1 Kings 19:16b, Elijah the prophet followed God's instruction to appoint a man named Elisha as his successor. Elijah threw his cloak over Elisha, who went and said good-bye to his family, then followed Elijah without question. Second Reading: Galatians 5:1, Paul reminds us that people were freed from the old law through Christ. But he makes it clear that this freedom does not mean giving in to evil desires. Instead, we must be guided by the Spirit and most importantly love our neighbor as ourselves. Gospel: Luke 9:51-62 Jesus set out for Jerusalem, and passed through a town where he was not welcomed. He reprimanded his disciples for desiring vengeance against the town. One man wanted to follow Jesus when he had finished his duties at home. Jesus expressed that a man who begins a task, but constantly looks back is unfit for the reign of God Bon Venture Services, Inc.
