Easyfundraising By signing up to the website and selecting St Barnabas Maintenance Fund as your chosen charity, a donation can be made every time we do online shopping at a large variety of websites including Tesco, Sainsbury s, Amazon or ebay. We would encourage everyone to sign up to the website, choose St Barnabas Maintenance Fund as your chosen charity and when you are ready to do some online shopping, it's a matter of "clicking-through" via the easyfundraising website where a donation will be paid to the Cathedral on a quarterly basis. The donation (a bit like cash back) can be anything from 1% for some retailers and up to 50 or more for switching utilities. For example, if you wanted to buy something from Amazon, you would first go to and log in, search for Amazon in the browse retailers box and the website then redirects you to Amazon s website. From here you would make your purchase as normal and a donation would be logged and transferred to St Barnabas Maintenance Account within 3 months. Please do consider helping us raise money this way.

4 Today: Once a village blacksmith had a vision. An angel of the Lord came to him and said The Lord has sent me. The time has come for you to take up your place in his kingdom. I thank you for thinking of me, said the blacksmith, but as you know, the season for sowing the crops will soon be here. The people of the village will need their ploughs repaired, and their horses shod. I don t wish to seem ungrateful, but do you think I might put off taking my place in the kingdom until I have finished? The angel looked at him in the wise and loving way of angels. I ll see what can be done he said, as he vanished. The blacksmith continued with his work, and was almost finished, when he heard of a neighbour who fell ill in the middle of the planting season. The next time he saw the angel, the blacksmith pointed towards the barren fields, and pleaded with the angel. Do you think eternity can hold off a little longer? If I don t finish the job, my friend s family will suffer. Again, the angel smiled, and vanished. The blacksmith s friend recovered, but another s barn burned down, and a third was deep in sorrow at the death of his wife. And the fourth.and so on. Whenever the angel reappeared, the blacksmith just spread out his hands in a gesture of resignation and compassion, and drew the angel s eyes to where the suffering was. One evening, the blacksmith began to think of the angel, and how he had put him off for such a long time. He felt very old and tired, and he prayed Lord, if you would like to send your angel again, I think I would like to see him now. He d no sooner spoken than the angel appeared before him. If you still want to take me, said the blacksmith, I am now ready to take my place in the kingdom of the Lord. The angel looked at the blacksmith, and smiled, as he said Where do you think you have been living all these years? The Kingdom of God is among you.. (MB) Remembrance Sunday The 11.15am Mass at the Cathedral next weekend, will be offered for the Dead of all Wars. Music includes The Last Post and the Cathedral Choir will sing Duruflé's Requiem. Lest We Forget The poppies around the Cathedral are to mark the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War, and to remember those who died not only in the First World War but also those who have died in All Wars. Thank you to all the ladies who gave their time and skills making the wreaths over the last few weeks. Catholic Singles is a group that helps practising Catholics meet other Catholics. 5 Canon Geoffrey Hunton Canon Geoffrey acknowledges the expressions of concern and the prayers for him. Please be assured that Canon Geoffrey is in good spirits and is taking a brief period of time away to rest and recoup. November - a time for remembering Few Christians need encouraging to pray for the dead. We pray for them naturally as we pray for our loved ones and friends who are still living. It would be strange not to do so, as the Faithful Departed are as near to us as Christ is, for they are in Christ like we are. November is a time to remember our loved ones who have gone to the Lord. Here in the Cathedral and at St Augustine s we will have a Novena, please complete the form by adding your loved ones names and place it in the envelope provided - these envelopes can be found at the back of the churches. All names will be placed on the altar for the celebration of Mass and will be the Intentions for the Mass during the time of the Novena. (MB) RCIC We are looking ahead to the start of the RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children) which commences on the 19th November at 5pm in the Ellis Room. The RCIC is a program for children age 7 years to 15 years who have not been baptised and is open to both parishioners and non-parishioners who wish to prepare for the Sacraments. Whether your family is just entering the church, is returning after time away, have decided as a family to delay the children s sacramental preparation, or any other circumstance, all are welcome. Contact the Cathedral Office for more information. Weddings 2019 Any couples who are hoping to get married next year, in either of our two parishes, are required in the first instance to make an appointment with the Cathedral Dean. Diocesan Law requires a minimum of six months notice prior to the wedding. This enables all the necessary arrangements and preparations to be made. All couples without exception have to attend the Marriage Preparation Course. Prayer for the Sick Father, your Son accepted our sufferings to teach us the virtue of patience in human illness. Hear the prayers we offer for our sick brethren. May all who suffer pain, illness or disease realize that they have been chosen to be saints and know that they are joined to Christ in his suffering for the salvation of the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
