2 Pew News I am still looking for a quiet month, but I think I've missed it for this year! First of all the annual counting of the Children s Society Boxes took place in October helped by Felicity; we banked Thank you so very much to all boxholders for all the years you have supported this very worthy charity. I took over the co-ordinating in 1990 and have now handed over to Pauline Pettifer and Kath Brown; so please support them when they start in th October was a proud day - Audrey Brand graduated at Cambridge! She earned her M.A. after much very hard work; so we all say 'Congratulations Audrey'. The School Harvest groceries were taken to the Bedford Refuge by Deborah this year. As usual they were so very grateful for the gifts from Campton school children. The 1 st November was a Benefice Service on All Saints Day. It is always good for all three churches to worship together and this was a special service led by Dean. The 4 th was Coffee & Chat and it was really great to see so many people, we were nearly rushed off our feet! Then we moved to the 5 th and the Annual Gift Day for the maintenance of the Church. Donations are still coming in and Deborah and I would like to give a sincere thank you to all of you. And so to the 13 th November, Remembrance Day, our Service echoed those held throughout the country. We were joined by present day and Ex-Servicemen as the names of the fallen were read out by Sir Stanley, then Lily said the Kohima Epitaph and wreathes were laid by the Officer from Chicksands and the Chairman of the Parish Council. In her sermon Audrey made special mention of George Frederick Harris who died on the Somme exactly 100 years ago aged just 19. We will remember them. Now we look forward to Christmas and all the very special Services; Notices will be displayed. The School Crib service really starts our Christmas. Dates for your Diary: Friday, 2 nd December: Coffee & Chat with mince pies!! This is a fundraiser for Shelter's Christmas Appeal. -2-

4 Campton & Chicksands Parish Council The last meeting of the Parish Council took place on Wednesday 2 nd November 2016, and was once again well attended by residents. During public participation questions were raised over the website and communication routes between the residents and the Parish Council. A web based Contact Form is the primary means of contacting the Parish Council via the website. However details of the Clerk s address and telephone number are also provided. The website is regularly updated and many council documents are available from the site, including the recent review of the 2010 Parish Plan and information on Parish Council meetings. Should you experience any difficulty in locating specific documents, or would prefer a hard copy, please contact the Clerk or one of the Councillors who will be happy to help you. Also raised by residents was concern for the number of heavy vehicles currently being driven through Campton, in particular along Gravenhurst Road & Greenway. The main concerns were road safety, night time sleep disturbance and damage being caused to road surfaces. The Parish Council will put forward these concerns to Bedfordshire Councillor Tony Brown. Cllrs Baker & Westgarth have recently walked the Central Beds Council maintained highways of the Parish and have recorded the condition of roads and footpath surfaces. This information has been used to provide Central Beds Council (at their request) with a list of priorities for re-surfacing works of both roads and footpaths. An external Inspector has recently carried out a full inspection of the play equipment and area at the Recreation Ground. Whilst no major issues were reported some minor remedial work is required and the Parish Council are currently obtaining quotes for this work. In the meantime the play area continues to be inspected on a weekly basis by Cllr Westgarth. The Parish Council have been in contact with the School and the Football Club with regards to parking in Rectory Road. It has been requested that parents, football teams and supporters all park on the Recreation Ground side of Rectory Road and with due consideration for road safety and local residents. This will hopefully help to ease some of the traffic problems at busy times. The Parish Council will be monitoring this parking situation over the coming months. -4-

5 We still have a vacancy on the Parish Council and would like to hear from anyone interested in taking on the role of Councillor. You are welcome to attend meetings for further information and Councillors will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. If you have anything you would like to raise with the Parish Council for discussion, please feel free to contact me at tammy.medley@btinternet.com (telephone ). You may also contact the Parish Council via the web Contact Form on the Parish Council website. The date for the next meeting is Wednesday 7 th December 2016 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall. Friends of Campton PTA would like to inform the residents of Campton and Chicksands that our annual Christmas Fayre is being held on Thursday 8 th December between 6.00pm & 7.30pm. Preparation is well under way and we would love to see you all there to support us and the school, stalls will include Pick a Jar, Lucky Dip, Guess the Weight of the Cake and the ever popular Water or Wine! New to this year s event we have a make your own reindeer food stall; plus, many more. There will even be a chance to see Santa, and who knows, if the children have been good they may get a present! As always, we thank you for your continued support and we are looking forward to seeing you on the 8 th December.
