3 Fr David Sanders who is a Dominican based at Blackfriars in Oxford will be making an appeal today for the Dominican Missions which is an apostolate of the Dominican Friars in England and is mainly concerned with serving the poor in the Caribbean. St Ignatius Church The Church and Presbytery will be CLOSED between Monday 6 November and Wednesday 22 November for essential maintenance and repairs. There will be no access between these dates. Tuesday 24 October at 10am at Our Lady & St Patrick s Church. Parish Youth As you know the Youth Rally was cancelled because of bad weather but the Diocese has organised an Ice Skating and Swimming outing to Plymouth Pavilions on Sunday 26 November. 4 Tell Sainsbury s: Don t Ditch Fairtrade Sainsbury s is the largest retailer of Fairtrade products in the UK. They ve decided to abandon Fairtrade certification on some of their own-brand tea products and pilot their own scheme instead, known as Fairly Traded. Tea farmers in Africa have publicly opposed the move away from the Fairtrade Mark as it takes away their power to decide where to invest the Fairtrade Premium in their communities. CAFOD is concerned that this new Fairly Traded tea, and any products that follow it, could mean an unfair deal for poor farmers. CAFOD are encouraging us to protest outside local Sainsbury s stores to object to their withdrawal of the Fairtrade status from some of their tea on a Day of Action on Saturday 28 th October. If anyone would like to do this outside the Dawlish store, could they please contact Jean Potter and join Dawlish Fairtrade Friends in their protest. Alternatively, could you sign the letter at the back of our Churches which will be given to local Sainsbury s Store Managers. Thank you for your generous support to CAFOD s Harvest Fast. Our parish raised which will mean more farmers around the world will be able to support their families, now and into the future. We look forward to welcoming you to GATHER 2018 Hassock Project Update As we are so very near the completion of the main Hassock Tapestry project we urgently need to update our record of ALL kits that have been issued to enable us to know what and how much more materials we need to order. Each kit costs us both time and money to prepare and we cannot afford to lose any. With all those outstanding kits returned we would be able to place a completed hassock on every chair currently being used in our church. Please let me know the current situation regarding your hassock tapestries and if for any reason you find that you are no longer able to complete the kit it doesn t matter BUT please return it so that somebody else can complete it. 6 School News Our Lady & St Patrick s Primary School will be celebrating 50 years this November. The school, friends and parish are currently planning a week of celebrations which will include inviting all ex staff, governors, parishioners and pupils back to school on the evening of Saturday 25 November for a reunion and Ceilidh dance. Ceilidh tickets are now available for the evening of Saturday 25 November and are priced at 15 each to include a hog roast. Tickets can be purchased online at or after Mass each Sunday.
