The Pastor s Patch Today we celebrate the beginning of Holy Week with our observance of Palm Sunday. There are fifty two weeks in a year but only one is called Holy.

As we enter into this week, may we take time each day to meditate on the events Our Savior, Jesus Christ endured.

2 The Pastor s Patch Today we celebrate the beginning of Holy Week with our observance of Palm Sunday. There are fifty two weeks in a year but only one is called Holy. This week the days are not only Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday etc., but Holy Monday, Holy Tuesday, Holy Wednesday, etc. As we enter into this week, may we take time each day to meditate on the events Our Savior, Jesus Christ endured. May we ask ourselves how well we are doing in our spiritual relationship with the Lord, Jesus. How faithful have we been to our Lenten observances and practices, will testify to our personal, joy-filled celebration, of Easter. Below, please find a schedule of Masses for Holy Week and Easter. Holy Monday through Holy Wednesday 7:00 a.m. Mass Confession from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Blessed Sacrament exposed Holy Thursday (No 7:00 a.m. Mass) Mass of The Lord s Supper 7:00 p.m. Good Friday 3:00 p.m. The Lord s Passion No Mass No Stations of the Cross Tenebrae Service 7:00 p.m. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil 8:00 p.m. Easter Sunday Mass at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30am. Traveling Statue of the Pieta The beautiful statue of the Blessed Mother holding Jesus in death travels to your private home for one week. There are prayers to be offered each day/ evening with the family present. The prayers are provided for you you may offer your own prayers. Please pick up the statue (boxed) in the priest s sacristy. Please return the statue to the priest s sacristy BEFORE the Saturday evening Mass each week so that the next family may receive her. The Traveling Statue of The Pieta will be visiting the home of Ms. Francine Javaloyes for the week of March 25, 2018 March 31, Sanctuary Candle It is a custom in our parish to have the sanctuary candle in memory of our loved ones, deceased pastors or the living. We are planning to keep this tradition. However there will be one change, and that is the price. The Sanctuary Candle will remain and the donation will be $10.00 instead of $ If you wish to have a sanctuary candle burn for a special intention, please call Jennifer at Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and she will accommodate your requests. Chrism Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral This year the Chrism Mass takes place on Holy Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Joseph Cathedral, Hartford, Ct. Archbishop Leonard P. Blair will be the principal celebrant along with priests of the Archdiocese of Hartford. At this Mass, the Archbishop will bless the holy oils of catechumens, chrism and the oil of the infirm. These will be distributed to all the parishes in the Archdiocese for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, holy orders and the anointing of the sick. It gives us great pleasure to announce that Mrs. Ruth Romajas and Mrs. Leslie Griffin will represent St. Aloysius parish at the Chrism Mass and bring back the holy oils. Easter Egg Hunt The Holy Name Society is sponsoring an Easter Egg Hunt Sunday, March 25, 2018 immediately after the 10:30 a.m. Mass for the children of the parish This is a rain or shine event and open to all children ages 0 to 12 years old. There will be crafts and activities in the Church Hall after the Egg Hunt. Vocations to the Priesthood The Vocation Office of the Archdiocese of Hartford invites everyone to come and pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood in our Archdiocese at four special Holy Hours, celebrated by the Vocation Director for the Archdiocese. Each Holy Hour begins at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by a light coffee-and reception so we have the chance to meet one another. Please join us! 3 Palm Sunday of Lent Parish Stained-Glass Windows It s has been a joy this lent to take time to explain the beautiful stained glass windows here at St. Aloysius Church. Hopefully, everyone learned something from these instructions that you will take with you and hold them in your heart. As stated, three windows are from the Joyful mysteries of the Rosary. The first, next to the confessional, depicts the Finding of Jesus in the Temple. Many have believed that Jesus was teaching the Elders, when in fact, he was asking profound questions about God or Himself. Jesus is all Human and all Divine. The human side was prevailing, as he was trying to find out things related to Himself. The Elders are utterly amazed at His questions. Below the main picture is a book, more than likely a Bible. Jesus is depicted at age 12 or 13, having gone through His Bar mitzvah. The Jewish child had to learn the first five books of the Bible, called the Torah. They learned the 10 Commandments and the psalms, also. Above the main picture is the hand of God, blessing the Son as he goes deep within knowledge of Himself. The next window is not a mystery of the Rosary, but depicts The Holy Family. This is self explanatory. Notice the globe with a cross on the top. This clearly symbolizes that Jesus, the Son of God is the Savior of the World. The bottom picture is of the Easter Lamb with a conquering banner, as Jesus conquers our greatest enemy: death. The third window is the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple. This is a Joyful Mystery of the Rosary. Mary and Joseph are presenting their son at the age of approximately 2 months. Boys were always presented in the Temple at a much younger age than girls. The top picture in this window depicts a descending dove or the Holy Spirit, taking up definite life within the Child, Jesus. The bottom depicts two turtledoves in a cage. Since Mary and Joseph were poor they presented two doves. The wealthy Jews presented an ox or oxen to the Temple. The fourth window is also a Joyful Mystery of the Rosary, The Nativity, or the Birth of Jesus. Other than the most important figures of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, we see three other important people: The Three Kings; they bear gifts of Frankincense, Myrrh and Gold. Myrrh is a very sweet smelling ointment rubbed on the dead body. Frankincense was used in the priestly sacrifice after the Lamb was killed. Jesus would become the Lamb of sacrifice for the atonement of the people s sins when He suffered on the Cross. Gold symbolizes Kingship/Kingdom. Jesus, though, is King of the Heart. He is not a king in the worldly sense. The picture at the bottom is a Fleur-de -lis, the quintessential emblem of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The picture at the top is a lily, signifying the purity of St. Joseph. Our final window is that of St. Anne with the Blessed Virgin Mary, her daughter. As stated, St. Anne is always shown in subdued colors and Mary has brighter colors. In our window St. Anne is dressed in purple and brown. Mary is in a sky-blue dress. The artists want to draw viewer s eyes to Mary, as she will figure highly with her yes to the angel, which gave us a Savior. The book below the main picture is the Bible. This probably signifies Anne, preparing Mary for her Bas mitzvah. The picture above is simply an angel on a cloud. Anne and Joachim s feast day is July 26th. Good Friday Tenebrae Service The word Tenebrae is Latin for darkness. It is a spiritual service of readings and hymns with an emphasis on the arrest, trial and crucifixion of Jesus. A candelabra will be lit and slowly extinguished after each reading/hymn. In our day, many people are mandated to work on Good Friday and cannot attend the 3:00 p.m. service of the Lord s Passion. Tenebrae is offered at 7:00 p.m. for those who are unable to attend at 3:00 p.m. or for those who wish to attend both. If you have never attended a Tenebrae Service you may wish to join us. All are invited. Blessing of Easter Food The traditional Blessing of Easter Food will take place on Holy Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the Church. Please place your basket in the sanctuary for Blessing. It is customary to bring foods you prepare for Easter dinner; ham, breads, sweets, salt, butter, foods from various nationalities. Confession/Reconciliation Please note that a Catholic is only obliged to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation once a year. This is called the Easter Duty. This sacrament can be received from Ash Wednesday to Pentecost Sunday. That averages only to be about three months, since there are 40 days of Lent and 50 days of Easter. Peter s Pence Collection What began in England centuries ago is still with us today. The Peter s Pence collection helps the Holy Father, Pope Francis to offer charity around the world to those who are less fortunate. The Peter s Pence Collection will take place on April 7 and 8, 2018 at all Masses. Please be generous to this collection so that the Holy Father can help to ameliorate some of the world s basic problems. K of C Easter Flower Sale The Knights of Columbus Council 15 and Assembly 122 will be selling Easter flowers on Friday, March 30 and Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 1, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. across the street from the Southington Drive In entrance at 995 Meriden Waterbury-Turnpike. Please come and support the Knights. The funds raised benefit the many local charities the Knights of Columbus throughout the year.
