The rose and testament placed by the pulpit today are to celebrate the baptism of Rebecca Jeanne Levens by the Women's Fellowship. Rebecca is the daughter of Shannon and Cole Levens, the sister of Sophia and the granddaughter of Alan and Mandy Levens and Tim and Marlene Pierce. Her godparents are Kristen Levens and Preston Pierce. We welcome Rebecca Jeanne into the family of God this day. Garden Club: The next Garden Club meeting is Tuesday, February 6 th in the New Fellowship Hall. We will have a special guest speaker from WFMY- TV, and we want to have good attendance! Visitors are welcome! Blessing Bags: The Blessing Bag Ministry has been relocated to the Education Building and placed on the Youth Board. Ash Wednesday Service will be February 14, 2018 at 6:30 PM in the sanctuary. Ash Wednesday begins the church season of Lent, the 40 days (since

5 we don't count Sundays) leading up to Easter. During the Ash Wednesday service we will recognize the frailty of our own existence, our dependence on our Creator and the ample proportions of God's grace given freely to us all. As we remember how God first made human beings from the dust, we will also remember that the beings formed in God's image will return to the dust upon their death. So, in remembering, each person will be given an opportunity to come forward and allow Pastor Kristin or Pastor Lynne to make the sign of the cross on the forehead out of ashes made from last year's palm branches. The ashes symbolize our earthly existence; the sign of the cross reminds us that we belong to God. We hope you will join us for this very meaningful service and the beginning of our Lenten journey together. The season of Lent focuses the Christian believer to hone spiritual disciplines such as prayer, fasting, and repentance. This year we will be focusing on the spiritual discipline of prayer. Here are a couple of ways we will be practicing prayer together and supporting each other on our Lenten journeys: Lenten Bible Study and Soup Dinner, Dinner beginning at 5:45 PM and Bible Study to follow (6:15 PM-7:15 PM) BEGINNING FEBRUARY 21st. The Bible Study will be Listen! Praying in a Noisy World by Rueben Job. Copies are available by donation through the church office and copies will be available on Sunday mornings. Just ask one of the pastors. If you are interested in sharing a crock of soup, or a loaf of bread, please let Pastor Kristin know. Sunday Morning Communion Services, 9:30 AM in the Sanctuary. BEGINNING February 18. This short, 15-minute meditative service will be a time of scripture, prayer and communion. We hope that you will pray about the upcoming Lenten season. Pray about what God is calling you to focus on in your spiritual life. Pray about your ability and desire to attend the spiritual events at Mt. Hope. Your pastors will be praying for you during this Lenten journey of repentance, forgiveness and seeking God's direction. Condolences: Our heartfelt Christian sympathies go out to the family of J.H. Neese who went home to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 1 st. Visitation will take place here at Mt. Hope today at 2:00 p.m. and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. J.H. was a well loved and respected lifelong, faithful and very active member of Mt. Hope. He had an immediate effect on all he came in contact with and was a joy to be around. He was the brother of Blanche Greeson

6 and Mary Catherine Moser and the great-grandfather of Austin Oliver. He also had many other family members at Mt. Hope. J.H. will be greatly missed but is now resting in the arms of his Savior and is reunited with his dear wife, Audrey. Condolences: Our Christian sympathies also go out to the family of Priscilla Lowe who passed away on Saturday, January 27 th. Her funeral took place on Wednesday. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers at this time. Condolences: Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Greg Smith who passed away suddenly on Monday, January 29 th.
