People: Our dreams and our doubts, our joys and our disappointments. Leader: And we are all welcomed here. We are all received in this place. Greeters for the month of August: August 21 Sylvia and Lloyd Gilliam August 28 Cynthia Morris Church Membership: We are blessed to celebrate the baptism of Jeff and Scott Tucker. They are the newest members of our family. They live at 1009 E. Joyner Street in Gibsonville and are the sons of Betty Tucker. We promise to pray and support them as they grow in the Christian faith. Choir Members Please Note: a special choir practice is to be held on Wednesday, August 24 th, at 7:30pm. Acolyte Meeting: There will be a training meeting for all interested acolytes (2nd grade and up) on September 11th immediately following the worship service. We will meet in the front of the church on the steps. If you are interested and cannot come to this meeting, please let Pastor Kristin or Pastor Lynne know. Social Concerns: The Social Concerns Committee is collecting school supplies again this year for Nathanael Greene and Alamance Schools. A box is located in the Breezeway for you to place any items you would like to donate. The boxes will be in place from now until the end of September. Thank you!
4 Hot Dog Luncheon: Just a reminder that the next hot dog luncheon will take place on Saturday, August 27, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. If you would like to contribute items that are needed, please see the list in the breezeway. It is located above the box that is provided there for your contributions. Also, there is a sign-up sheet in the breezeway for those who are willing to come and help us on August 27 th. We do need willing hands to help on that day! Thank you, The Stewardship Committee. New Pastors Installation Weekend: The installation service for Rev. Lynne Hinton and Rev. Kristin Gerner Vaughn will be held next Sunday, August 28. We are planning two days worth of exciting activities to celebrate their installation, starting with a Farmer s Market on Saturday morning, August 27 th. The Farmer s Market will be held from 8:00 am 12:00 noon in the church parking lot on Old Julian Road. We will have vendors to sell their home-grown vegetables, homemade crafts, artwork, baked goods, etc. This is not a church fund-raising event it s a community fellowship event! We are also hoping to involve other area churches. The hot dog lunch will take place from 11:00 1:00. There will be live music. Come on out and plan to shop and enjoy this time of fellowship. At 6:00 p.m., there will be a church-wide Workshop led by Dr. Stephen Lucas. On Sunday, we will begin with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. Our regular worship service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Stephen Lucas preaching. The morning service will be followed by a potluck dinner in the new fellowship hall. The Service of Installation will be held in the Sanctuary and will begin at 3:00 p.m. Pastor Kristin and Pastor Lynne will be bringing the message and guest speakers include, Rev. Jennie Hemrick, Thomasville, NC, Dr. Stephen Lucas, Austin Texas, and Dr. Sharon Hinton Bender, New Bern, NC. Communion will be served. The Ice Cream Social will take place in the new fellowship hall following the installation service. The final event for the day will be the High Lonesome Strings Blue Grass Concert at 6:00 p.m. This concert will feature the group New Southern Ground. New Southern Ground is a new and upcoming bluegrass band that loves playing traditional bluegrass and gospel bluegrass tunes. It features five talented artists demonstrating a vast array of musical talents. The band consists of over 90 years of combined performance experience. Based out of Asheboro, NC, New Southern Ground takes pride in preserving our traditional bluegrass heritage. The band got its start as a brother/sister duo called The Hensons and later evolved into the full band. The band has played at the Wide World of Bluegrass Raleigh/Durham Airport, IBMA event with the High Lonesome Strings Association, The Earle Theatre in Mount Airy, NC State Fair, Sunset Theater, The Liberty Showcase and many other local benefits and churches. Be sure to clear your calendar for this event-filled weekend. It promises to be a wonderful experience that you won t want to miss! *Weekly Reflection: It doesn t matter what names you have been called in the past.
