1 DIOCESE OF SACRAMENTO OFFICE OF WORSHIP Dear Pastors, Parochial Administrators, and Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education, Confirmation of adults is offered twice a year in our diocese. The next Confirmation Mass will take place on the Vigil of Pentecost, Sat. June 8, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of Mercy, Redding. This special Mass is for adults who were baptized in the Church, received First Holy Communion and have been regularly attending Mass, but were never confirmed. Those who have not received First Holy Communion and have not been attending Mass regularly should be treated as candidates in the RCIA process. It is the parish s responsibility to prepare candidates for Confirmation based on the four pillars of the Catechism, with a special emphasis on the rites of initiation. Candidates should receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Confirmation. Candidates and sponsors must arrive at 3:00 p.m. for instruction and check-in. A brochure with additional information and registration form is included. Please use these forms to register adults who are to be confirmed. Make as many copies as you need. 4 Bishop Jaime Soto is extending an opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation to adult Catholics of the Diocese of Sacramento, who have been attending Mass regularly and have received first Holy Communion, but were never confirmed. It is the parish s responsibility to prepare those who wish to be confirmed through an adequate period of instruction. Candidates should also receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation as part of their preparation. To participate the candidate must: Be a baptized Catholic, who has received instruction through their parish to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Be either unmarried or in a marriage recognized as valid by the Catholic Church. Obtain a recent copy of their Baptismal Certificate issued within the past 6 months, including the reverse side, with any notations. Choose a Confirmation sponsor. Sponsors must be confirmed, practicing Catholics in good standing, at least 16 years of age, of either sex. Parents may not be the sponsors for their children; grandparents and other relatives, however, may be sponsors. Candidates may take the name of a saint as their own for confirmation. If you live outside the Diocese of Sacramento, you must request a letter of permission from the Bishop of the Diocese in which you live. Include a copy of this letter with your registration form. Your parish must: Prepare you through appropriate instruction. Provide you with the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to your Confirmation. Your Pastor must indicate his approval by signing the registration form.

Las próximas celebraciones serán en la Vigilia de Pentecostés el sábado el 19 de mayo de 2018 a las 5:00 p.m. en la parroquia Nuestra Señora de la Misericordia, Redding y 5:00 p.m. en la Catedral del Santísimo Sacramento. Este rito especial es para adultos que ya han sido bautizados en la Iglesia, han recibido su Primera Comunión y regularmente asisten a Misa, pero nunca han sido Confirmados. Los adultos que aun no han recibido la Eucaristía y no asisten a Misa con regularidad deben ser catequizados por medio del proceso RICA. Es responsabilidad de la parroquia preparar los candidatos para la Confirmación basados en los cuatro pilares del Catecismo, con un énfasis especial en los ritos de iniciación. Los candidatos deben recibir el Sacramento de la Reconciliación antes de la Confirmación. Los candidatos y sus padrinos/madrinas deben llegar a las 3:00 p.m. para las instrucciones y ensayo. 8 El Obispo Jaime Soto extiende la oportunidad de recibir el Sacramento de la Confirmación a los católicos adultos de la Diócesis de Sacramento, quienes han estado asistiendo a Misa con regularidad y ya han recibido la Primera Comunión, pero nunca fueron Confirmados. Es necesario que la parroquia ofrezca formación a quienes deseen ser confirmados. Los candidatos recibirán el Sacramento de la Reconciliación, en su Parroquia como parte de su preparación. Para participar deberá: Ser Bautizado Católico y haber recibido formación de su parroquia para recibir el Sacramento de Confirmación. Ser soltero/a, o estar casado/a en un matrimonio válido por la Iglesia Católica. Obtener una copia reciente (dentro de los últimos 6 meses) de su certificado de Bautismo incluyendo el reverso con alguna anotación. Si usted no fue bautizado en la parroquia de donde es miembro, tendrá que obtener una copia de la parroquia donde fue bautizado. Escoja a su padrino/madrina. Los Padrinos deberán estar confirmados, ser Católicos practicantes, mayores de 16 años, de cualquier sexo. Los padres no pueden ser padrinos de sus propios hijos; abuelos y otros familiares si pueden. Si usted vive fuera de la Diócesis de Sacramento, se requiere que obtenga una carta de permiso del Obispo de la diócesis en la cual usted vive. Incluya una copia de esta carta con el formulario de registración. Para participar su parroquia deberá: Prepararle con la instrucción apropiada. Ofrecerle la oportunidad de recibir el Sacramento de Reconciliación antes de recibir el sacramento de Confirmación. Su párroco deberá firmar su formulario de inscripción.
