All items are requested in digital format. Resurrectional Apolytikion Tone Three Let the heavens rejoice and let the earth be glad, For the Lord has shown strength with His arm: By death He has trampled on Death, And became the Firstborn of the dead; He delivered us from the depths of Hades, And to the world has granted great mercy. Church Hymn (Troparion of Pentecost) Blessed are You O Christ our God Who has shown the fishermen as wise men By sending down Your Holy Spirit upon them And through them, the whole world You drew into Your net O Lover of mankind, glory to You. Kontakion O You Who are the Source of all wisdom and discernment, Instructor of the ignorant and Champion of the poor, strengthen our hearts, O Master, and grant us understanding. O Word of the Father, bring words to our lips, that nothing would keep us from crying out to You: In Your compassion have mercy on us, for we have fallen. EPISTLE READING St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 13:11-14; 14:1-4 Brethren, salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed; the night is far gone, the day is at hand. Let us then cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light; let us conduct ourselves becomingly as in the day, not in reveling and drunkenness, not in debauchery and licentiousness, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires. As for the man who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not for disputes over opinions. One believes he may eat anything, while the weak man eats only vegetables. Let not him who eats despise him who abstains, and let not him who abstains pass judgment on him who eats; for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for God is able to make him stand. GOSPEL READING Matthew 6:14-21 The Lord said, "If you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. "And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also."
3 THE CONFESSION OF FAITH (Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed) I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen. Sunday Service Schedule and Teams When coming to Church on Sundays, families oftentimes disperse to fulfill commitments and duties. While these commitments and duties are important, Father Bill has set a priority of having families worship God together. To facilitate this, a schedule has been created so that family members who volunteer on Sundays will be assigned to serve on the same Sundays as their family members. 10 President's Message March 2014 Dear Philoptochos Ladies and Gentlemen: We are in the midst of our 2014 membership drive. Thanks to those of you who have already become 2014 Philoptochos members; we are thankful for your promptness and your generosity. As a reminder, $21 of each membership goes to our Metropolis and National Philoptochos to support Metropolis and National philanthropy. The remainder of your membership donation remains with our Chapter for our local charities. Membership forms are available on the Philoptochos page of the Holy Trinity website ( and at Church. We welcome and encourage all to become members of Philoptochos (men included!). As Lent approaches, we have several opportunities available for volunteering. On March 1, we will be volunteering at the food bank at the Lord s Pantry. If you are interested in participating, please contact Wendy Mudis. March 11 will be our next session at Gleaners Food Bank packing food for children. Contact Tracy Pappas if you would like to know more. On March 29, we will be hosting the Soup Kitchen at the North United Methodist Church. Contact Sondra Vitsas for more information. We are still collecting canned food items for the Julian Center and the Trinity CME food banks. Both locations have told us they are low on food; place your donations in the blue bin near the coat area. Please make plans to join us for our annual Lenten Retreat on March 22. It will take place at St. George this year. Very Reverend Father William R. Cassis of Holy Trinity-Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Cincinnati, Ohio will speak on "A Top Ten List for Orthodox Christians: Ten Things Every Orthodox Christian Needs to Know". Thanks to all of you who have chaired or helped with recent events. Your work for Philoptochos is very much appreciated and allows us to provide assistance in a variety of ways. A few examples: we have recently sent $250 to Go Red for Women through the American Heart Association, $2,500 to St. Basil Academy (home for children in need), $200 to Helping Hands for Freedom (supports military children and families), and distributed 37 fleece blankets to children at Riley Hospital who were heading into surgeries. Sincerely, Tracy Pappas Ladies Philoptochos Society Philoptochos Thanks You for Your Donations Thanks to our parishioners for your recent generosity in supporting the following collections: Your housewares items helped many Hamilton Country residents in need through the Housewares Ministry of the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center. You are invited to donate future housewares items directly to the Merciful H.E.L.P. Center. The drop off door is located on the south side of the Matthew 25 Center building on the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church campus W. 146th Street. We provided clothing and toys through the Christmas Giving Tree to 100 children who live in the area of our former church location. We provided numerous coats, hats, scarves and gloves to low income breast cancer patients through the Pink Ribbon Connection. Needed: Canned Food Items We have been providing some of our donated canned food items to a food pantry located at the Trinity CME Church in Indianapolis. We work with this church when we volunteer at Gleaners and they are a wonderful group of people and are dedicated to helping the poor who live near their church. Please help us help Trinity CME feed the hungry in Indianapolis - bring canned food items to church and put them in the blue bin near the coat area.
