3 THE CONFESSION OF FAITH (Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed) I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. In one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen. EPISTLE READING: St. Paul's Second Letter to Timothy 2:1-10 TIMOTHY, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to satisfy the one who enlisted him. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hardworking farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will grant you understanding in everything. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descended from David, as preached in my gospel, the gospel for which I am suffering and wearing fetters like a criminal. But the word of God is not fettered. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus with its eternal glory. 4 Holy Communion Procedure The following is the order in which the faithful will receive Holy Communion: Choir, Chanters, Altar Boys, Narthex Servers, Church School Teachers, Church School Students, and the remaining faithful. Church School Today, November 2, 9, 16 and 23 - Class after Holy Communion until 11:45am. There will be no classes November 30. Sunday, November 2 is Bible Sunday. Following the Divine Services, Third Grade Church School Students will receive Orthodox Study Bibles and Sixth Grade Church School Students will receive Liturgy Books. The Advent Season of Christmas begins on November 15 during which Church School will be collecting donations for St. Basil Academy. We would like our students to do something extra to earn the money they donate. This collection will begin Sunday, November 16 and end December 21. Stewardship Sunday Stewardship Sunday is today. Everyone is encouraged to turn in their completed 2015 Stewardship Commitment Cards the end of the Divine Liturgy. Blank Stewardship Committment Forms are available in the Founders' Walk. God asks for 10%. If we are not there yet, then our goal for 2015 is for everyone to give 3% of their income. Lunch will be served following the Divine Services, hosted by Father Bill, members of the Parish Council and members of the Stewardship Committee. There are limited spaces available for those who did not make reservations. Dinner begins at 6pm followed by the movie screening at 6:30pm, with discussion to follow. The film is Of Gods and Men, rated PG-13. Under threat by fundamentalist terrorists, a group of monks stationed with an impoverished Algerian community must decide whether to flee or stay with patients in their hospital. Father Bill will be our guest speaker and will speak about his tour of duty as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. Reservations are required for lunch, which will be provided by Betty Kalyvas and her crew and can be made by sending an to leisuretimers@holytrinityindy.org or in the Founders' Walk following the Divine Services. Since our meeting is on Veteran's Day, we would like to share photos of you or your family members who have served in the military. Philoptochos to Honor Veterans The next Philoptochos General Meeting is Tuesday, November 11 at 6:30pm in the Founders' Walk. Since it is Veteran's Day we will honor the dedicated men and women, past and present, in all branches of the United States military. Book Corner The Book Corner will meet to discuss Harry Petrakis's book Hour of the Bell. If anyone has not read the saga of the War for Greek Independance of 1821 this is an Amazon Five Star read. Harry Mark Petrakis gives life to the fabled warriors of this war in a very readable style. Join the discussion on November 14 at 10am in the Education Wing. All are welcome. Used hardbacks are for sale from Amazon for as little as one cent (shipping $3.99). Available from public libraries also. IOCC Wine Tasting and Jazz Event Saturday, November 15, from 7pm to 10pm in the Founders' Walk. Proceeds benefit International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). $45 for 5 tasting tickets. For more information, please contact the Parish Office at General Assembly During our General Assembly following the Divine Services on Sunday, November 16, the agenda will include the 2015 budget. One special feature on the 2015 budget is a SECOND PRIEST. Everyone is encouraged to attend this General Assembly and participate in this exciting possibility. A first step in this process is to review our stewardship. If we commit 3% of our income to the Lord and His Church, our Parish will easily reach our goals.

6 Hospitality Committee Volunteers Needed The Hospitality Committee of Philoptochos is seeking volunteers to assist in bringing good cheer through visits and telephone calls to those in our Parish who are not able to attend Divine Services on a regular basis. These Committee members will partner with a Parishioner who is geographically close to them with the goal of establishing brotherly or sisterly Christian fellowship. Men are also encouraged to assist in this mission as we have men that need this service also. 7 HOLY COMMUNION Holy Communion is the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Saint John of Kronstadt ( ) says, in partaking of the Holy Sacrament, be as sure that you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, as you are sure that every moment you breathe air. Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (about ) also teaches us Since Christ Himself has declared the bread to be His Body, who can have any further doubt? Since He Himself has said quite categorically, This is My Blood, who would dare to question it, and say that it is not His Blood? Therefore, it is with complete assurance that we receive the bread and wine as the Body and Blood of Christ. His Body is given to us under the symbol of bread, and His Blood is given to us under the symbol of wine, in order to make us by receiving them one body and blood with Him. Having His Body and Blood in our members, we become bearers of Christ and sharers, as Saint Peter says, of the divine nature Do not then regard the Eucharistic elements as ordinary bread and wine: they are in fact the Body and Blood of the Lord, as He Himself has declared. Whatever your senses tell you, be strong in faith. The Lord urges us to make a sincere effort to make peace with each other when anger or hurt exists, seeking forgiveness or granting forgiveness, as appropriate, (Matthew 5:24) before approaching the Lord. Receiving Holy Communion is certainly important to our spiritual life and growth. This ultimate connection with Jesus Christ is a gift which God gives to us and one which should be accepted gratefully and responsibly. Our Church teaches that receiving Holy Communion frequently is encouraged. Our Church also teaches that a preparation is expected. Preparation for Holy Communion can vary from person to person. The minimum preparation to receive Holy Communion is to fast from meat on Wednesday and Friday and not eat anything on the morning, prior to receiving Holy Communion. For those who must take medication that requires food, they are permitted to eat that which is necessary for their health. Furthermore, the Church teaches us to fast on particular days during the year and especially during the four main fast periods. These four main fast periods are in preparation of holy days of the year, as follows: December (Nativity of our Lord) Great Lent (before Holy Week and Easter) Monday after All Saints Day through 28 June (the Apostles), 1 14 August (the Dormition of the Theotokos) Each of us is encouraged to approach the Chalice to receive Holy Communion in love and in peace, gratefully and responsibly.
