3 EPISTLE READING: St. Paul's Letter to the Hebrews 6:13-20 BRETHREN, when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore to himself, saying, "Surely I will bless you and multiply you." And thus Abraham, having patiently endured, obtained the promise. Men indeed swear by a greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he interposed with an oath, so that through two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible that God should prove false, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to seize the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner shrine behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek. GOSPEL READING: The Gospel According to St Mark 9:17-31 At that time, a man came to Jesus kneeling and saying: "Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a dumb spirit; and wherever it seizes him it dashes him down; and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid; and I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able." And he answered them, "O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me." And they brought the boy to him; and when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth. And Jesus asked his father, "How long has he had this?" And he said, "From childhood. And it has often cast him into the fire and into the water, to destroy him; but if you can do anything, have pity on us and help us." And Jesus said to him, "If you can! All things are possible to him who believes." Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, "I believe; help my unbelief!" And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, "You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again." And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse; so that most of them said, "He is dead." But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose. And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, "Why could we not cast it out?" And he said to them, "This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting." They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he would not have any one know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, "The Son of man will be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him; and when he is killed, after three days he will rise." New GOYA Attendance Policy As a reminder, per the notification sent last summer, as of March 1, 2018 attendance is being tracked and counted toward the 2019 Dayton Basketball Tournament & any Summer Trips, from March 1, February 18, GOYAns must attend a minimum of 30% of all GOYA activities, 30% of Church School and 30% of basketball practices (if playing). Note: If you would like to be an officer for , 40% attendance is required to apply. Please plan ahead on activities you will attend, keep track of your attendance and be sure to sign yourself in on the attendance sheet available at each activity. Bookstore Essential books for Great Lent are available in the Holy Trinity Bookstore. Holy Week & Easter is $29, Lenten Liturgies is $29 and Salutations and Akathist Hymn is $22. The Bookstore is open each Sunday following the Divine Services. Greek School An 8-week Adult Greek Class is now available! March17 - May 12 from 10am - 12pm (No Class on April 7). Save the Date: Parish Night April 18 A gathering of our Parish family is scheduled for Wednesday, April 18 at 6pm in the Founders Walk. We will worship, eat and learn all about the new iconography in our Sanctuary together. Please save the date! Lenten Bible Study - Sermon on the Mount Our Lenten Bible Study sessions conclude on Tuesday, March 20 at 7pm. Father Lucas leads a study of the 'Sermon on the Mount' (Matthew chapters 5-7) which includes the Beatitudes and the Our Father. Please Bring your Bible! Church School March 25: Return Mission Boxes to classroom teachers. April 1: No Classes April 6: Holy Friday Retreat All children and teens are welcome. Programs for Preschool & Kindergarten, 1st -5th grades, 6th - 8th grades and high school students. The retreat begins at 10am, includes lunch and concludes at 1:45pm to allow all to attend 2pm Apokathelosis Service. Sign up sheets are in the Founders Walk. April 8: No Classes May 5: Completed Dickos Church School Award with signatures forms are due. Lent is a good time to complete requirements. Forms are available in the Education Wing. Luminaries Junior High GOYA will be selling luminaries for $5 each in the Founders' Walk today following the Divine Services. Proceeds to benefit the OCMC. All luminaries are due back by Holy Wednesday, April 4. These luminaries will be placed outside the Church along the route of the procession of Holy Friday evening service. 5 Confessions by Appointment Father Bill will be available to hear Confessions by appointment on Thursdays during Great Lent (March 29 available) from 4pm to 5:20pm. To make an appointment, please contact the Parish Office at or Iconography Phase 3 Don t miss out on being a part of this transformation! Those interested in donating an icon for Phase 3 are encouraged to review the updated list of available icons. The process is the same as Phase 2 -- "first come, first served". Please include the Code Number on the memo line of the check. If another means of donating the funds is used, the Code Number should be either written on paper or sent in an to avoid any confusion. AHEPA Scholarships 2017 The AHEPA-DOP District #12 Foundation, Inc is offering five $1500 scholarships for Three are for high school graduating seniors, and two are for college undergraduates. Palm Crosses Please join us on the Saturday of Lazarus - Saturday, March 31, in the Library immediately following Divine Liturgy. Everyone may assist in making palm crosses for Palm Sunday, and learn about their meaning as we pass on this tradition to the next generation. Project Mexico 2018 Our annual mission trip to Project Mexico for July 18-24, 2018 is fast approaching. A 15 person team led by Joe Pavia will improve the living conditions of families by building them a home and also interacting with the children at Saint Innocent Orphanage. Joe Pavia encourages Altar Boys and Narthex Servers along with their parent(s) or any Parishioner to consider participating. The trip can be a wonderful gift for an Altar Boy or Narthex Service at this time of year. The Missions Committee partially subsidizes the trip for those who participate in fundraising. Please contact Joe Pavia for more details. Palm Sunday Luncheon T h e H o l y T r i n i t y Philoptochos invites you to its annual Pa l m S u n d ay Luncheon on Sunday, April 1 after Divine Liturgy. We will take reservations in the Founders Walk after Divine Liturgy on the following Sundays, March 18 and March 25. Or, mail registrations with a check payable to Philoptochos to the Parish Office. The Adult Fish Dinner is $15.00 and Children's Menu ages 5-11 is $6.00. Children under 5 eat free. After the March 25 registration deadline, the Adult price will be $ Proceeds to benefit Hellenic College / Holy Cross School of Theology. Agape Vespers Readers Needed Volunteers are needed to read the Gospel in Arabic, French, German, Latin & Russian at the Easter Sunday Agape Vespers Service on April 8 at noon. Volunteers will be assigned on a first come, first served basis and must be at least 16 years old. If you would like to participate, please contact the Parish Office at or Sandy@holytrinityindy.org. Altar Boys & Narthex Servers All Altar Boys and Narthex Servers can serve in their respective positions during all weekday Divine Services of the Great Lent and Holy Week. So, if a Divine Service is offered Monday through Saturday from now through and including Saturday morning, April 7, all Altar Boys and Narthex Servers are welcomed to serve with two exceptions. On Holy Friday evening, April 6, only those Altar Boys and Narthex Servers who are present and vested by 7:05pm can serve. For the Resurrection Service, April 15, only those Altar Boys and Narthex Servers who are present and vested by 10:05pm can serve. Also, for Easter Sunday Agape Service, all Altar Boys and Narthex Servers are welcomed to serve. On September 22, 2018 our Parish will celebrate 10 years in our Carmel location! Please plan to join us as we celebrate.
