3 EPISTLE READING: Acts of the Apostles 2:1-11 WHEN THE DAY of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly a sound came from heaven like the rush of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared to them tongues as of fire, distributed and resting on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation under heaven. And at this sound the multitude came together, and they were bewildered, because each one heard them speaking in his own language. And they were amazed and wondered, saying, "Are not all these who are speaking Galileans? And how is it that we hear, each of us in his own native language? Parthians and Medes and Elamites and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontos and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya belonging to Cyrene, and visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God." GOSPEL READING: John 7:37-52; 8:12 On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, "If any one thirst, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, 'Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.'" Now this he said about the Spirit, which those who believed in him were to receive; for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified. When they heard these words, some of the people said, "This is really the prophet." Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Has not the scripture said that the Christ is descended from David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?" So there was a division among the people over him. Some of them wanted to arrest him, but no one laid hands on him. The officers then went back to the chief priest and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why did you not bring him?" The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this man!" The Pharisees answered them, "Are you led astray, you also? Have any of the authorities or of the Pharisees believed in him? But this crowd, who do not know the law, are accursed." Nikodemos, who had gone to him before, and who was one of them, said to them, "Does our law judge a man without first giving him a hearing and learning what he does?" They replied, "Are you from Galilee too? Search and you will see that no prophet is to rise from Galilee." Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life." 4 A Message from the Stewardship Committee Dear Fellow Holy Trinity Parishioners, As a member of Holy Trinity s Stewardship Committee, I was asked to pen the third in a series of letters to the congregation detailing the importance of increased stewardship. Steve Young wrote the first of the 2014 letters. Steve is a financial advisor a money man and the theme of his remarks fittingly correlated to his life s work reminding us that our net worth in God s eyes is based not in what we get in life but in what we cheerfully give back. Joe Eaton was next up. Joe is a lawyer a litigator he makes his living setting out to systematically prove points. Joe built the case for us, brick by brick, to remind us as 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 tells us, that he who sows sparingly, will also reap sparingly; and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Now, it is my turn and all I ve got to show for my career is a life spent working for and then with (and alas, sometimes, against) Hoosier politicians. Where does that get me?! A few weeks ago, while in Washington DC, it came to me. I was visiting the Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Memorial along the Tidal Basin. The memorial is expansive, covering FDR s 4 presidential terms through 4 separate open-air rooms, the walls of which are covered with FDR quotes engraved on huge slabs of stone. This simple quote particularly struck me as relevant for my letter: The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today. Let us move forward with strong and active faith. It has been over 5 years since we made our move to our Carmel church. We did so with enthusiasm, joy, pride, and in all honesty a healthy dose of fear of the unknown. We began our Journey Forward Together Under His Gaze long before the gaze was visible to the mortal eye. Now, all we have to do is look up. Our faith overcame our fears. So, too, is this true with the act of giving with stewardship. In FDR s terms, we must move forward with strong and active faith. In Joe s terms, if we sow bountifully, we will reap bountifully. In Steve s terms, we must come to understand the difference between our earthly net worth and how God measures us. From my own heart, let s continue to learn from our own example. Let s not let the fear of giving more limit us. Instead, let s show that our faith in giving more uplifts us. And as James 1:17 reminds: Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights Let each of us consider an increase to our stewardship commitment and offer, at a minimum, 2% of our total household income with the goal of getting to 5% by Thank you for listening and for all that you do to further God s work. Sincerely yours, Gail Zeheralis Stewardship Committee Member

Philo Food Philoptochos provides assistance to a variety of agencies including local, national and international organizations. These are all important, but we also want to reach out to our own parishioners. We are starting a new project through which we will provide meals to parishioners in times when a ready meal would be helpful (such as illness, new baby, etc.). Philo means love. This project will be a way to show our love for our fellow parishioners. Philo Food will work like this: We will have a list of addresses of people who are willing to consider preparing a meal for a parishioner. When a need arises, an will be sent out to the group along with a link to an on-line program with more information and specific meal dates. If the location/dates do not work for you, then you simply do nothing. If you are able to provide a meal, you then sign up for a date which is convenient to you. If you are willing to be on the list and consider providing a meal from time to time, please contact Niki Martine at nmartine@sbcglobal.net. You can also sign up after church. Thank you.
