3 EPISTLE READING: St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 1:11-19 Brethren, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas, and remained with him fifteen days. But I saw none of the other apostles except James the Lord's brother. GOSPEL READING: The Gospel According to St. Matthew 2:13-23 When the wise men departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him." And he rose and took the child and his mother by night, and departed to Egypt, and remained there until the death of Herod. This was to fulfill what the Lord had spoken by the prophet, "Out of Egypt have I called my son." Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, was in a furious rage, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time which he had ascertained from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah: "A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing and loud lamentation, Rachel weeping for her children; she refused to be consoled, because they were no more." But when Herod died, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, "Rise, take the child and his mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the child's life are dead." And he rose and took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel. But when he heard that Archelaos reigned over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go there, and being warned in a dream he withdrew to the district of Galilee. And he went and dwelt in a city called Nazareth, that what was spoken by the prophets might be fulfilled, "He shall be called a Nazarene." Process for Assignment of a New Priest His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas will officially announce the open position of Dean of the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Carmel at the next Metropolis Clergy meeting, which is on January 15, Those Priests who are interested in the position will inform His Eminence. Under the direction of the Metropolis, one Priest will come to talk with Parish leaders. If both the Priest and the Parish leaders say yes, then the Priest will be assigned. If either the Priest or the Parish leaders say no, then the another Priest will come to talk with the Parish leaders. This process continues until both Priest and Parish leaders say yes. May our Lord God guide all in this process. Everyone who has not yet completed a Stewardship Commitment Card is encouraged to do so. Blank cards are available in the Founders' Walk following the Divine Services and online at IRA Information Notice to all who have an IRA account and are at least 70 1/2 years old! If you have not yet taken your Required Minimum Distribution for 2018, consider making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from your Traditional IRA directly to Holy Trinity and reduce your taxable income at the same time. Ordinarily, the Required Minimum Distribution taken from your Traditional IRA is counted as income and taxed as ordinary income. But - you can make a QCD of up to $100,000 each year from your Traditional IRA and owe no taxes on the distribution!! So, even though fewer people are expected to be able to itemize their taxes this year and will lose the ability to deduct charitable contributions, the tax benefits of a QCD are better than a tax deduction, because the entire amount of the QCD is excluded from your taxable income. Keep in mind the distribution check from your Traditional IRA must be made payable directly to the church for you to receive this tax benefit. Please talk to your tax advisor for further details..

6 Holy Communion Holy Communion is the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Saint John of Kronstadt ( ) says, in partaking of the Holy Sacrament, be as sure that you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, as you are sure that every moment you breathe air. Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (about ) also teaches us Since Christ Himself has declared the bread to be His Body, who can have any further doubt? Since He Himself has said quite categorically, This is My Blood, who would dare to question it, and say that it is not His Blood? Therefore, it is with complete assurance that we receive the bread and wine as the Body and Blood of Christ. His Body is given to us under the symbol of bread, and His Blood is given to us under the symbol of wine, in order to make us by receiving them one body and blood with Him. Having His Body and Blood in our members, we become bearers of Christ and sharers, as Saint Peter says, of the divine nature Do not then regard the Eucharistic elements as ordinary bread and wine: they are in fact the Body and Blood of the Lord, as He Himself has declared. Whatever your senses tell you, be strong in faith. The Lord urges us to make a sincere effort to make peace with each other when anger or hurt exists, seeking forgiveness or granting forgiveness, as appropriate, (Matthew 5:24) before approaching the Lord. Receiving Holy Communion is certainly important to our spiritual life and growth. This ultimate connection with Jesus Christ is a gift which God gives to us and one which should be accepted gratefully and responsibly. Our Church teaches that receiving Holy Communion frequently is encouraged. Our Church also teaches that a preparation is expected. Preparation for Holy Communion can vary from person to person. The minimum preparation to receive Holy Communion is to fast from meat on Wednesday and Friday and not eat anything on the morning prior to receiving Holy Communion. For those who must take medication that requires food, they are permitted to eat that which is necessary for their health. Furthermore, the Church teaches us to fast on particular days during the year and especially during the four main fast periods. These four main fast periods are in preparation of holy days of the year, as follows: December (Nativity of our Lord) Great Lent (before Holy Week and Easter) Monday after All Saints Day through June 28 (the Apostles) August 1-14 (the Dormition of the Theotokos) Each of us is encouraged to approach the Chalice to receive Holy Communion in love and in peace, gratefully and responsibly.

7 Large Liturgical Furniture New large liturgical furniture is the last project identified in spring 2014 survey. Our goal is to raise the funds by the beginning of the Great Lent (March 11), ensuring their delivery before Easter (April 28). The General Assembly approved the $65,000 project. To date we have raised $26,350. This project will complete the enhancement of our magnificent Church. All glory to God!! Helping the Hungry Please bring flip-top cans of soup, paper towels, toilet paper, paper plates and granola bars to Church, and put them in the blue Philoptochos bin. The soup will be given to patrons of the HELP Center. Chicken Noodle soup is preferred. Drop Box For convenience, a Drop Box that enables contributions, forms, Stewardship cards, and any other documents to be turned in, is located inside the Founders Walk at the Office Entrance.
