3 EPISTLE READING: St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 6:12-20 Brethren, "all things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. "Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food" -- and God will destroy both one and the other. The body is not meant for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God raised the Lord and will also raise us up by his power. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I therefore take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who joins himself to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, "The two shall become one flesh." But he who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. Shun immorality. Every other sin which a man commits is outside the body; but the immoral man sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body and in your spirit which belong to God. GOSPEL READING: The Gospel according to St. Luke 15:11-32 THE CONFESSION OF FAITH (Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed) I believe in one God, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages; Light of Light, true God of true God, begotten, not created, of one essence with the Father through Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became man. He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered and was buried; And He rose on the third day, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father; And He will come again with glory to judge the living and dead. His kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Creator of life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who together with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, Who spoke through the prophets. 5 Orthodoxy Explored - Religious Education Series Orthodoxy Explored, the religious education series offered by Father Jarrod, concludes this Wednesday, March 2 at 7pm. This series explores Orthodox Christianity, enabling us to learn more about our faith and to be better able to communicate it to others. Attendance at each session can be independent of the others. Thus, even if the first two sessions were missed, the final session can still be attended with full understanding. The topic this Wednesday (postponed from last week) will be Salvation History from the Creation to the Resurrection. This week's session will take place in the Church and will include discussion of some of the beautiful Icons of our Church. Leisure Timers The next gathering of the Leisure Timers will be Thursday, March 10, at 11:30am at the Church. Be prepared for a fun couple of hours of visiting, food and fun playing bingo. The winter kept us in and it's time to get out and enjoy an afternoon of being together. A $4.00 minimum donation is asked of those joining us to cover costs. St. Basil Film Study The next St. Basil Film Study is scheduled for Friday, March 11. Dinner begins at 6pm with the film at 6:30pm. Discussion to follow. The film is Win Win, rated R for language. New IRA Law For those who are 70 ½ years old and older, consider this new charitable contribution transfer directly from your IRA to Holy Trinity Church -- with NO tax and NO penalty. Maximum annual amount per year can total $100,000. This is a win-win for donor and Holy Trinity Church! Soup for the Hungry Please bring flip-top cans of soup to Church, and put them in the blue Philoptochos bin. The soup will be given to patrons of the Soup Kitchen as a takeout. Chicken Noodle soup is preferred. Book Corner In Philip Yancy's book Vanishing Grace, he presents his perspective of the grace of God. Everyone is welcomed to read the book and join the discussion about God's grace at the Book Corner on Friday, March 11, at 10am in the Education Wing.

6 Mission s Breakfast Please join us on Sunday, March 6, following the Divine Liturgy for breakfast and to support your Holy Trinity Mission Teams. The cost is $7.00 per person; children under 5 are free. The menu will include french toast casserole, eggs, sausage, hash browns, fruit, cereal, milk, coffee and juice. This year Holy Trinity is sending out two teams: Project Mexico under the leadership of Joe Pavia with team members Stephanie, Austin and Katerina Anderson, Steve, Julianna and Alexandra Hackett, Gary, Victoria, Elizabeth and Nathaniel Martine, and Danielle Pappas. Guatemala under the leadership of Mike Young with Frances Anderson, Emily Neuendorf and Tess Barnett, Christy and Michael Julovich, Anastacia Young, and Helen Young. Please pray for our mission teams as they prepare, travel and carry out their missionary responsibilities. Save the Date - St. Nicholas Summer Camp - July 24-30, 2016 The youth of the Metropolis of Detroit will be gathering together this summer at the St. Nicholas Summer Camp during July for faith, fun, and fellowship in an Orthodox Christian setting. Campers (ages 8-18) will meet new friends, have lots of fun, and grow in their Orthodox Christian faith. Registration and other information will be provided once it is available. 10 Holy Communion Holy Communion is the Body and Blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Saint John of Kronstadt ( ) says, in partaking of the Holy Sacrament, be as sure that you partake of the Body and Blood of Christ, as you are sure that every moment you breathe air. Saint Cyril of Jerusalem (about ) also teaches us Since Christ Himself has declared the bread to be His Body, who can have any further doubt? Since He Himself has said quite categorically, This is My Blood, who would dare to question it, and say that it is not His Blood? Therefore, it is with complete assurance that we receive the bread and wine as the Body and Blood of Christ. His Body is given to us under the symbol of bread, and His Blood is given to us under the symbol of wine, in order to make us by receiving them one body and blood with Him. Having His Body and Blood in our members, we become bearers of Christ and sharers, as Saint Peter says, of the divine nature Do not then regard the Eucharistic elements as ordinary bread and wine: they are in fact the Body and Blood of the Lord, as He Himself has declared. Whatever your senses tell you, be strong in faith. The Lord urges us to make a sincere effort to make peace with each other when anger or hurt exists, seeking forgiveness or granting forgiveness, as appropriate, (Matthew 5:24) before approaching the Lord. Receiving Holy Communion is certainly important to our spiritual life and growth. This ultimate connection with Jesus Christ is a gift which God gives to us and one which should be accepted gratefully and responsibly. Our Church teaches that receiving Holy Communion frequently is encouraged. Our Church also teaches that a preparation is expected. Preparation for Holy Communion can vary from person to person. The minimum preparation to receive Holy Communion is to fast from meat on Wednesday and Friday and not eat anything on the morning, prior to receiving Holy Communion. For those who must take medication that requires food, they are permitted to eat that which is necessary for their health. Furthermore, the Church teaches us to fast on particular days during the year and especially during the four main fast periods. These four main fast periods are in preparation of holy days of the year, as follows: December (Nativity of our Lord) Great Lent (before Holy Week and Easter) Monday after All Saints Day through June 28 (the Apostles) August 1-14 (the Dormition of the Theotokos) Each of us is encouraged to approach the Chalice to receive Holy Communion in love and in peace, gratefully and responsibly.
