1 Granville Catholic Church Record Vol. 3. No. 47 November 25, 2018 Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe The Official Bulletin of Holy Trinity Parish at Granville and Holy Family Parish at East Granville OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST KING of the UNIVERSE The Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe marks Christianity not as one religion among others but as the one, true religion. Jesus Christ, God made man, reigns as King of the Universe as king of all faiths, of all peoples, of all nations, and of all ages. Before our Lord ascended the throne of the Cross, Pontius Pilate asked Him, So you are a king? Jesus answered, You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Every one who is of the truth hears my voice. Do we consider ourselves as truly subject to the words, the teachings, the person of Christ? Do we really believe that our King reigns from the Cross, that Cross that is at once the reality of the suffering of this world and at the same time the only answer to the suffering of this world. Have we enthroned Him in our hearts, our minds, our bodies and souls in a real way that affects how we live our lives? How many of us are willing to be the soldiers of the King, to fight the battle against the implications of Pilate s question what is truth in a world that has denied truth? We d o n o t d e t e r m i n e f o r ourselves what is right and what is wrong. We look to our Mother, the Church, who guides us just as she is guided by the Holy Spirit. We entrust ourselves to her care in confidence that she will lead us to the source of all truth and goodness, and so to the fulfilment of our humanity. So we surrender our will to the will of God and abandon ourselves to His divine providence in the sure and certain hope of salvation. But in a world which demands what is popular, are we prepared to do what is right?

5 RED WEDNESDAY 28 NOVEMBER Stand Up for Faith and Freedom Join us on Wednesday, 28 November as we stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians and faith minorities who suffer unjustly for their peacefully-held beliefs. To honour Red Wednesday Holy Trinity Parish and Holy Family Parish will turn our Facebook pages RED as we do something peaceful and positive to highlight the suffering injustices, discrimination, violence, oppression, torture and death of so many Christians and others today which goes largely unnoticed by the world. And we invite you to wear RED that day to honour those who are persecuted and ignored and to use your social media to make #RedWednesday a day that cannot be ignored. Envelopes will be made available in the pews or you can make a donation by visiting and help the parish meet its quota. This Christmas, we re counting on your faith, hope and charity to support homeless mothers and children in crisis. Your compassionate gifts and prayers will support the shelter, independent living and parenting skills programmes that homeless mothers desperately need.
8 Solemnity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe The Readings First Reading The Prophet Daniel (7:13-14) I gazed into the visions of the night. And I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man. He came to the one of great age and was led into his presence. On him was conferred sovereignty, glory and kingship, and men of all peoples, nations and languages became his servants. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty which shall never pass away, nor will his empire be destroyed. Gospel The Gospel of John (18:33-37) Are you the king of the Jews? Pilate asked. Jesus replied, Do you ask this of your own accord, or have others spoken to you about me? Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? It is your own people and the chief priests who have handed you over to me: what have you done? Jesus replied, Mine is not a kingdom of this world; if my kingdom were of this world, my men would have fought to prevent my being surrendered to the Jews. But my kingdom is not of this kind. So you are a king then? said Pilate. It is you who say it answered Jesus. Yes, I am a king. I was born for this, I came into the world for this: to bear witness to the truth; and all who are on the side of truth listen to my voice. Responsorial Psalm (Ps 92:1-2, 5.. v. 1). The Lord is king; he is robed in majesty. The Lord is king, with majesty enrobed; the Lord has robed himself with might, he has girded himself with power.. The world you made firm, not to be moved; your throne has stood firm from of old. From all eternity, O Lord, you are.. Truly your decrees are to be trusted. Holiness is fitting to your house, O Lord, until the end of time.. Second Reading The Book of the Apocalypse (1:5-8) Jesus Christ is the faithful witness, the First-born from the dead, the Ruler of the kings of the earth. He loves us and has washed away our sins with his blood, and made us a line of kings, priests to serve his God and Father; to him, then, be glory and power for ever and ever. Amen. It is he who is coming on the clouds; everyone will see him, even those who pierced him, and all the races of the earth will mourn over him. This is the truth. Amen. I am the Alpha and the Omega says the Lord God, who is, who was, and who is to come, the Almighty. Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed is he who inherits the kingdom of David our Father; blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Alleluia! OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST KING of the UNIVERSE
