Granville Catholic Church Record Vol. 3. No. 33 August 19, th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B The Official Bulletin of Holy Trinity Parish at Granville and Holy Family Parish at East Granville THE QUEENSHIP of the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Granville On Wednesday we celebrate the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary who, after her Assumption body and soul into heaven, was crowned Queen of Heaven. And we celebrate, also, the feast day of our Sisters, the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the World Australia. In A.D Pope Venerable Pius XII spoke about the Queenship of Mary in his encyclical, Ad Caeli Reginum, and taught that as her Son is proclaimed Prince of Peace, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords so she is honoured as Queen of Heaven because of the intimate connection that lies between a mother and a son. From the annunciation of the Archangel Gabriel when Our Lady sang in the Magnificat: From this day all generations will call me blessed, and the Visitation and the greeting of Elizabeth who said, why should I be honoured with a visit from the mother of my Lord, the Church has recognised this singular honour granted to her. Let us glory in being subjects of the Virgin Mother of God, who, while wielding royal power, is on fire with a mother's love. And let us pray not only for ourselves but also for our Sisters in the words of St. Ephrem: Majestic and Heavenly Maid, Lady, Queen, protect and keep me under your wing lest Satan the sower of destruction glory over me, lest my wicked foe be victorious against me. 3 M ISSIONARY SISTERS of the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY Q UEEN OF THE WORLD AUSTRALIA HAPPY FEAST DAY On Wednesday, the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we celebrate the feast day of our Sisters, the Congregation of the Missionary Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the World Australia. In 1975 the Sisters arrived in Australia and they first lived at Saint Joseph s novitiate in Baulkham Hills. After two years they moved to Lawson, but bushfires in 1977 destroyed their convent. It was this disaster that brought them to Granville on February 16, Since arriving in Granville forty years ago, the Sisters have occupied St. Joseph s Convent and, more recently, the former Patrician Brothers monastery located in William Street. At the heart of the vocation of the Sisters is the call to follow Jesus on His way to the Cross and to live the life of consecration under the protection of our Mother Mary as models of complete fidelity to God. The Sisters place a strong emphasis on the life of prayer as essential for the fruitfulness of their apostolic work in the Church. The Sisters firm commitment to the Granville community, to the parish and to the Vietnamese community has made them a backbone of Holy Trinity Parish. In the Granville community the Sisters apostolic work includes the Golden Rose Childcare Centre on Waratah Street, and the CMP Store on Jamieson Street, selling religious and devotional items. Our parish is blessed to have such holy and committed Sisters who dedicate so much to us and are a constant source of love and fun. The Sisters can always be found in the church either playing the organ, singing and reading at Mass, assisting the children s liturgy, putting up the banners, helping out with all the social activities like our parish fair and barbecues, and generously lending statues to adorn the church and to aid our devotions at Lent, Easter, and Christmas So to Sr. Justina and the Sisters we wish them a very happy and blessed feast day! May almighty God and the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the World, bless them a l w ay s a n d g r a n t t h e m a n abundance of vocations.
HOLY TRINITY CHURCH Granville granvilleparish.org.au Holy Trinity Holy Trinity Parish App Happy Feast Day to Our Sisters H a p p y f e a s t d a y t o o u r Missionary Sisters of Mary, Queen of the World Australia! On Wednesday, the Memorial of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our Sisters will celebrate their annual feast day in this the 40 th year of their ministry in Granville. Please pray for our Sisters that almighty God will continue to grant them His abundant grace and that the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of the World, will intercede for them always, to guide them and guard them and bless them with ever more vocations to their order. Happy feast day, Sisters! Holy Trinity Friendship Group The Holy Trinity Friendship Group is co-hosting, with St. Patrick s Parish at Guildford, a bus trip on Monday, 27 August. Seats are still available and if you would like more information or if you would like to make a reservation please telephone John Borg on MacKillop Hall Working Bee Next Saturday We will be holding a working bee next Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to clean MacKillop Hall. Please join us on Saturday for an hour or two and help us to clean and tidy inside the hall and the gardens outside. The more people we have the more work we will be able to get done and in much less time! MacKillop Hall is an important building for our parish both historically and today. The hall is used by the parish, the schools, and it is also hired by others and so is an important way for us to fundraise for the parish. This working bee is one of the ways we can help to care for the buildings we have in the parish. If you are able to help out on the day it will be great to see you there! Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Adoration, Mass and Candlelight Procession Last Tuesday evening we c e l e b ra t e d t h e v i g i l o f t h e Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, a solemn Mass, and a candlelight procession of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was another wonderful event of our parish! Thank you to all those who made this possible. To John Portelli for arranging the music and the slides for the Mass and the procession, and to Sr. Lucy, Maryanne Takchi, and the choir for singing. To Rosette Chidiac and Maryanne Takchi for reading, to Andrea Bosco, Joshua Zaiter, and Andrew Takchi for serving the Mass and the procession. To Richard Zaiter for taking the photographs, and to the gentlemen who carried the bier in the procession. And a special thanks to Rosette Chidiac and the Trinitarians Youth Ministry who were involved in every part of the Mass and the procession. We are blessed to have such great youth participation in the parish.

. HOLY FAMILY CHURCH EAST GRANVILLE eastgranvilleparish.org.au Holy Family East Granville Holy Family Parish App Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Adoration, Mass and Candlelight Procession Last Wednesday evening we celebrated the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a holy day of obligation and one of the greatest days of the year, with Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, with Adoration, Holy Mass, and a candlelight procession of the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was another wonderful event of our parish! Thank you to those who supported this event and the parish by joining us for Adoration, the Mass, and the procession. To Claudette Takchi for reading, to the gentlemen who carried the bier in the procession, and to those who sang hymns in the Mass and the procession. And a special thanks to Andrew, Elvis, and Joshua from the Trinitarians Youth Ministry who served the Mass and the procession, and Rosette and Raphael who distributed the books and lit the candles. It is great to have our youth so dedicated to the parish for these liturgical events. Our parish fair is only 9 weeks away on Sunday, 21 October! And we urgently need our parishioners to support us! If we are going to hold the fair this year we need your help in three main areas: Food stalls: we need more people to come forward to arrange a food stall. Maybe you can get together with your family and friends and organise a food stall? It would be great to have an international selection of foods as well! Prizes: we need lots of prizes, big and small, for the chocolate wheel. The chocolate wheel runs all day so we need to make sure we have plenty of prizes to give away. Maybe you can donate some new items as prizes or maybe you know a business that can donate to the parish? Drinks: we need plenty of drinks including cans of soft drinks. First Confessions Those children enrolled into the Sacrament of Penance programme at Holy Family Church will be making their first confession on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Those enrolled in the programme at Holy Trinity Church will be making their first confession the following week. P l e a s e p r ay f o r o u r yo u n g parishioners that they may always value the grace of the Sacrament offered to them. Holy Family Primary School Enrolments Holy Family Primary School is now accepting applications for enrolment from kindergarten to year 6 for 2018 and Selecting Holy Family Primary School will give your child the best opportunity to develop academically, spiritually and socially, and in partnership with our parish and the wider Catholic education community. You can download the enrolment package from the school s website at or call in at the school office during school hours.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! Can you volunteer at the fair? Can you help run a food stall? Can you donate prizes or drinks? Only YOU can make the fair a success for OUR parish! Please speak to Fr. Andrew or contact the parish office on or granville@parracatholic.org or send us a message through Facebook
20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B The Readings First Reading The Book of Proverbs (9:1-6) Wisdom has built herself a house, she has erected her seven pillars, she has slaughtered her beasts, prepared her wine, she has laid her table. She has despatched her maidservants and proclaimed from the city s heights: Who is ignorant? Let him step this way. To the fool she says, Come and eat my bread, drink the wine I have prepared! Leave your folly and you will live, walk in the ways of perception. Lord. Do not drug yourselves with wine, this is simply dissipation; be filled with the Spirit. Sing the words and tunes of the psalms and hymns when you are together, and go on singing and chanting to the Lord in your hearts, so that always and everywhere you are giving thanks to God who is our Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! All who eat my flesh and drink my blood live in me and I in them, says the Lord. Alleluia! Responsorial Psalm (Ps 33:2-3, v. 9). Taste and see the goodness of the Lord. I will bless the Lord at all times, his praise always on my lips; in the Lord my soul shall make its boast. The humble shall hear and be glad.. Revere the Lord, you his saints. They lack nothing, those who revere him. Strong lions suffer want and go hungry but those who seek the Lord lack no blessing.. Come children, and hear me that I may teach you the fear of the Lord. Who is he who longs for life and many days, to enjoy his prosperity?. Then keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Turn aside from evil and do good; seek and strive after peace.. Second Reading The Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians (5:15-20) Be very careful about the sort of lives you lead, like intelligent and not like senseless people. This may be a wicked age, but your lives should redeem it. And do not be thoughtless but recognise what is the will of the Gospel The Gospel of John (6:51-58) Jesus said to the crowd: I am the living bread which has come down from heaven. Anyone who eats this bread will live for ever; and the bread that I shall give is my flesh, for the life of the world. Then the Jews started arguing with one another: How can this man give us his flesh to eat? they said. Jesus replied: I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you. Anyone who does eat my flesh and drink my blood has eternal life, and I shall raise him up on the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me and I live in him. As I, who am sent by the living Father, myself draw life from the Father, so whoever eats me will draw life from me. This is the bread come down from heaven; not like the bread our ancestors ate: they are dead, but anyone who eats this bread will live for ever. HAPPY FEAST DAY to our MISSIONARY SISTERS OF MARY, QUEEN OF THE WORLD AUSTRALIA
