You supported the holy family of Nazareth with the work of your hands. Kindly protect those who trustingly come to you. You know their aspirations, their hardships, their hopes. They look to you because they know you will understand and protect them. You too knew trial, labor and weariness. But amid the worries of material life your soul was full of deep peace and sang out in true joy through intimacy with God's Son entrusted to you and with Mary, His tender Mother. HOLY FAMILY CHURCH EAST GRANVILLE eastgranvilleparish.org.au Holy Family East Granville Holy Family Parish App World Youth Day Raffle Tickets On Sale Now World Youth Day raffle tickets are on sale after Mass in the piety shop. The money raised from the sale of these tickets goes to support pilgrims travelling to World Youth Day in Panama next January. Raffle tickets can also be bought online at wyd2019. Remember to list Granville or East Granville as your parish. The raffle closes on 1 October and will be drawn on 27 October at St. Patrick s Cathedral. If you have any books of raffle tickets, sold or unsold, please return them to the parish office by Friday, 14 September as all parish sales must be delivered to the World Youth Day office for the drawer. Our parish fair is only 7 weeks away on Sunday, 21 October! And we urgently need our parishioners to support us! If we are going to hold the fair this year we need your help to make the fair a success. We need a great deal of prizes that we can use for the chocolate wheel. Maybe you can help? Maybe you can make up a hamper of some toiletries or chocolates or small gifts? Or can you donate some new toys for boys and girls? Or what about a gift card? Or maybe you can make a cash donation to help the costs of the fair? The more prizes we have to add to the chocolate wheel the more we will be able to raise in support of the parish. This is our major fundraiser for the year and it was a tremendous success last year. So help us to make this year s fair another great success in support of the parish. Fundraiser in Support of Our World Youth Day Pilgrim Maryanne Takchi Next Sunday Next Sunday after the 8:30 a.m. Mass and the 5:00 p.m. Mass there will be a barbecue fundraiser in support of our World Youth Day pilgrim, Maryanne Takchi. Please come along and help to raise funds to support Maryanne in meeting the cost of the pilgrimage to Panama next January. Maryanne is a tremendous supporter of the parish and a role model as a parishioner and so this is our way to show our support in return to her for all that she does. Each pilgrim has to raise a large amount to meet the cost and so these fundraisers are an important help to them in raising the money they need to join the Pope and hundreds of thousands of youths f r o m a r o u n d t h e w o r l d i n celebration of our Catholic faith. advertising space for sale

4 HOLY TRINITY CHURCH Granville granvilleparish.org.au Holy Trinity Holy Trinity Parish App First Thursday Traditional Latin Mass and First Friday Mass and Adoration Evening with Our Lord This Thursday evening, the first Thursday of the month, we continue with the Traditional Latin Mass at 7:00 p.m. And Join us this Friday evening as we continue our first Friday devotions in honour of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in reparation for the sins of humanity. Confessions will be heard from 6:15 p.m., the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Holy Mass will be offered at 7:00 p.m. followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at 7:30 p.m. Thank You to All Those Who Supported Our MacKillop Hall Working Bee Last Saturday we held our working bee to clean and tidy MacKillop Hall. Thank you to all those who came along and supported the working bee. A great deal of work was accomplished and the hall is looking great. Thank you to everyone who gave up their Saturday morning to help out. It was worth all the effort. In particular, thank you to John Portelli for his work in organising the working bee and co-ordinating the efforts. And thank you, also, to Betty Borg for her scones, cream and jam which she prepared for morning tea and to keep the workers fed. Father s Day Gifts at the Piety Shop This Sunday we celebrate Father s Day so why not visit the piety shop and have a look at the wonderful gifts that you could buy to show your appreciation for your f a t h e r. Holy Trinity Friendship Group The Holy Trinity Friendship Group is hosting its next morning tea on Tuesday, September 11 at 10:30 a.m. in MacKillop Hall. All are welcome to attend. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and socialise with others and to spend a morning with new friends and parishioners.

8 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B The Readings First Reading The Book of Deuteronomy (4:1-2, 6-8) Moses said to the people: Now, Israel, take notice of the laws and customs that I teach you today, and observe them, that you may have life and may enter and take possession of the land that the Lord the God of your fathers is giving you. You must add nothing to what I command you, and take nothing from it, but keep the commandments of the Lord your God just as I lay them down for you. Keep them, observe them, and they will demonstrate to the peoples your wisdom and understanding. When they come to know of all these laws they will exclaim, No other people is as wise and prudent as this great nation. And indeed, what great nation is there that has its gods so near as the Lord our God is to us whenever we call to him? And what great nation is there that has laws and customs to match this whole Law that I put before you today? Responsorial Psalm (Ps 14:2-5.. v. 1). The just will live in the presence of the Lord. Lord, who shall dwell on your holy mountain? He who walks without fault; he who acts with justice and speaks the truth from his heart.. He who does no wrong to his brother, who casts no slur on his neighbour, who holds the godless in disdain, but honours those who fear the Lord.. He who keeps his pledge, come what may; who takes no interest on a loan and accepts no bribes against the innocent. Such a man will stand firm for ever.. Second Reading The Letter of St. James (1:17-18, 21-22, 27) It is all that is good, everything that is perfect, which is given us from above; it comes down from the Father of all light; with him there is no such thing as alteration, no shadow of a change. By his own choice he made us his children by the message of the truth so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all that he had created. Accept and submit to the word which has been planted in you and can save your souls. But you must do what the word tells you, and not just listen to it and deceive yourselves. Pure, unspoilt religion, in the eyes of God our Father is this: coming to the help of orphans and widows when they need it, and keeping oneself uncontaminated by the world. Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia! The Father gave us birth by his message of truth, that we might be as the first fruits of his creation. Alleluia! Gospel The Gospel of Mark (7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23) The Pharisees and some of the scribes who had come from Jerusalem gathered round Jesus, and they noticed that some of his disciples were eating with unclean hands, that is, without washing them. For the Pharisees, and the Jews in general, follow the tradition of the elders and never eat without washing their arms as far as the elbow; and on returning from the market place they never eat without first sprinkling themselves. There are also many other observances which have been handed down to them concerning the washing of cups and pots and bronze dishes. So these Pharisees and scribes asked him, Why do your disciples not respect the tradition of the elders but eat their food with unclean hands? He answered, It was of you hypocrites that Isaiah so rightly prophesied in this passage of scripture: This people honours me only with lip-service, while their hearts are far from me. The worship they offer me is worthless, the doctrines they teach are only human regulations. You put aside the commandment of God to cling to human traditions. He called the people to him again and said, Listen to me, all of you, and understand. Nothing that goes into a man from outside can make him unclean; it is the things that come out of a man that make him unclean. For it is from within, from men s hearts, that evil intentions emerge: fornication, theft, murder, adultery, avarice, malice, deceit, indecency, envy, slander, pride, folly. All these evil things come from within and make a man unclean.
