3 P ARISH LIFE Ballroom Dance Lessons: It's time to dance. It's been on your list now is the time to take the first step. The seven week ballroom dance series began Monday, January 19th, in Jeffords Hall. Ballroom 1 at 7:00 pm will introduce beginner dancers to Waltz, Foxtrot, Rumba and Swing. No experience or partner is needed. Ballroom 3 begins at 8:00 pm. The advanced classes this session are Beginner Salsa 7:00 (no prerequisites required) and Bolero 8:00 (prerequisite BR 3) Each class lasts one hour and has an additional half hour practice time. Cost for the series is $60 per person for BR 1 and BR3. Advanced classes are $65 for the each series. Sign up at Roswell.html or at the first class. Casting Call! The LOST BOY, Young Jesus in the Temple Children s Musical by Allen Pote and Tom S. Long. April 19, 2015! Based on Luke 2:39-52, this musical tells the story of Jesus, lost after attending the Passover celebration. Mary and Joseph lose track of twelve-year-old Jesus for three days, and when they finally find him, he is sitting in his "Father's house," demonstrating with his questions a great understanding of God. Within the musical is a reassuringly human message: even parents chosen by God can lose a child; even a perfect child can give his parents anxiety. You don t need to sing or be in the Primary or Junior Choirs to participate! We need help in all areas actors, singers, stage hands, set and prop designers! Welcome Ministry The Welcome Ministry of St David s is currently recruiting new members to greet and welcome all who enter the doors of St David s. This is an important ministry that requires just a few minutes of your time but has a large impact on fellow parishioners and visitors. Call CLEAN CLOTHES Most of us worry more about having time to do the laundry than having detergent, but that is not true for everyone in North Fulton County. One highly requested item at the NFCC Food Pantry is laundry detergent! Unfortunately, there is rarely any to give out as there is rarely any donated. Once again St. David s, with your help, has an opportunity to fill that need. If you will bring POWDERED laundry detergent to church and drop it off at the designated spot in the mailbox hallway, our youth group will divide it up into smaller, labeled bags for the Food Pantry. They will be working on this project on the afternoon of Sunday, February 15, so you have several weeks to help your neighbors clean up!! 3

5 WONDER-FULL WEDNESDAYS A Christian History of the 16 th Century The Rev. Kenneth Swanson, Ph.D. Wonderful Wednesdays at St. David s Church The 16 th Century may be the most important period in the entire history of the Christian Church. Politically, it was the century of empire building, especially for Spain in the New World. Great political powers such as Spain, Ottoman Turkey, Holland and England jockeyed for supremacy worldwide. Culturally the Renaissance burst forth in full flower, particularly in Italy and the Low Countries of the North. The Protestant Reformation, led by such intellectual and religious giants as Martin Luther and John Calvin, transformed both the Christian Church and the political landscape of Europe. The Reformation also took hold in Britain, creating the Via Media, a third way to be Christian. Toward the end of the century, individual Christian spiritual formation flourished in both the Counter-Reformation School of Spanish mysticism and in the development of Radical Reformation Puritanism. This past Sunday, EpiscoPALS, our 4th and 5th graders ministry, was visited by the Canine Assistant organization based in Alpharetta. Karen Edge from the organization brought a 5 month old puppy to visit with us. The lower left photo is of the Greene family Jackson had a Canine Assistant dog early in his life after a heart transplant. The lower right shows Karen holding the puppy with some of our kiddos. This visit was all about the theme of helping others. 5

7 PROPOSED ROAD IMPROVEMENTS If you re interested in proposed road improvements in our church neighborhood, here's the latest from the City of Roswell: Upcoming Construction Old Roswell Road at Warsaw Road Staff is designing an improvement at this intersection that includes the addition of a westbound left turn lane on Old Roswell Road to southbound Warsaw Road. In addition, there will be a new right turn lane from northbound Warsaw Road to eastbound Old Roswell Road. Construction is expected to begin in fall Citywide Resurfacing Resurfacing of Old Alabama Road, Old Roswell Road, and Old Mountain Park Road will begin in spring Check back for updates. When resurfacing is underway, SLOW DOWN in work zones, watch for lane closures, and stay aware! Also, be aware that traffic signal detection equipment is disconnected during resurfacing. SR 400 Northbound at Holcomb Bridge Road Relief Ramp This Bond funded project will take the Exit 7A ramp from northbound SR 400 to Holcomb Bridge Road eastbound and split it allowing for access to both Holcomb Bridge Road eastbound as well as Market Boulevard. The provision of this new exit ramp will allow traffic to access Old Alabama Road via an alternate route thereby relieving traffic on Holcomb Bridge Road east of SR 400. The project is currently in right-of-way acquisition and is expected to begin construction in spring Thanks to Dick Lord for keeping us up to date! PATH TO SHINE TRAINING "Path to Shine" Training for Volunteers: This will be held on February 28, from 9am-2pm, in the front half of Jeffords Hall. The Rev. Deacon Lesley-Ann Drake spoke to our congregation at all services recently about her organization. Registration is requested as they have materials to copy and also lunch will be provided. Women s Wednesday Bible Study Are You Ready to Embrace Forgiveness? Episcopal Church Publishing, Inc. commented, Over the course of the study, she shows how forgiveness can remove the tumor of anger from our hearts. On five Lenten Wednesday mornings, February 25 March 25, the Women s Bible Study Class will study the spiritual discipline of forgiveness. Embracing Forgiveness is a DVD series led by Episcopal priest, author, and spiritual director, The Rev. Barbara Cawthorne Crafton, who shares stories and insights on what forgiveness is (and what it isn t!!!). The series teaches a way for healing and restoration in our lives by offering down to earth practices and encouragement. As one reviewer of the course from the Session Titles: Seventy X Seven: Really? You Have Heard It Said Chipping Away How to Start Forgiving Why Forgive?
