3 P ARISH LIFE Palm Cross Workshop Volunteers are needed! Adults, teens, and older children are invited to come to the Palm Cross workshop on Saturday, March 24, 9:00 a.m. 12:00 p.m. at the Sinclair House (2 doors up from church). Under the direction of the Altar Guild, you will learn how to make the crosses to be distributed on Palm Sunday, March 25. No experience necessary! Prayer Vigil Sign-Up Thursday night March 29, 2018 It is our custom to keep a watchful vigil with Jesus throughout the night on Maundy Thursday, March 29. The vigil begins immediately following the Thursday night service and continues until early the next morning. Please sign up to come in during the night and keep vigil. The sign-up sheet is on a table in the main hallway. More than one person can sign up for a time slot, and we would like for more than one person to sign up for a time slot. "59 & Holding" April Lunch/Meeting "A Small Town Boy Goes Hollywood Tuesday, April 10, 2018, beginning at 11:30 a.m. in Jeffords Hall. Cary Roan will discuss the art and adventure of film restoration, from silent films to classic feature films. Cary, an independent motion picture and film professional, will discuss his hobby that has turned into a second profession, in which he has won awards and presented his work at film festivals. His repertoire of Hollywood friends includes such notables as Sylvester Stallone, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, plus Trigger. Come join us to hear his behind the scenes of Hollywood stories! Join us Saturday mornings 8:30-9:30 in Grace Parish Hall for the new program open to all men of the parish. Each week is a stand-alone session open to all men of the parish, and no outside reading is required. Come have a cup of coffee, hear the Parables and listen to what they are telling us today. Altar Guild 101 An Introduction The St. David s Altar Guild will be hosting an introductory class on Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in Grace Parish Hall. The purpose of the class is to introduce potential members to what the Altar Guild does and how teams are set up and scheduled. No commitment required just for attending the class. Anyone who thinks they d like to participate would be set up for future training with other Guild members. We hope you ll come and learn more about this meaningful ministry. And remember.no linen cleaning or metal polishing is required of anyone! HomeStretch is gearing up for our annual Run the River Road Race happening on Saturday, April 14 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Roswell and we need your help! The road race takes over 100 volunteers to make the morning a success. As a unit sponsor, we know your congregation takes an active interest in ways to help HomeStretch. Can you please put the word out that we are still in need of volunteers for that morning? 4 PRESCHOOL DOUGHNUTS WITH DADS St. David's Preschool hosted the children's dads on Friday, March 16th, St. Patrick's Day. Glazed doughnuts from the Donut Shack were quite the treat! The dads got to make projects, play, and enjoy spending some school time with their little darlings! 5 2018 ST. DAVID S MEN S RETREAT The 2018 St David s Men s retreat is scheduled for April at Unicoi State Park in Helen, GA. Again, on Friday, 4/27, at Noon, we will have optional golf, fishing, hiking & biking and a cookout that night so come for the activities or come just for the cookout and fellowship. Golf will be played at Butternut Creek, Blairsville, again this year. Hikers will be doing the Raven Cliffs Trail - moderate, 4.9 miles. The formal program will begin at 9:30 on Saturday, 4/28 with breakfast at 8:30 so you can drive in on Saturday morning if you like. The program ends on Sunday, 4/29, with a program wrap-up, worship service and Eucharist finished by noon. Our retreat leader will be The Rev. Rich Sanders, Priest Associate at St David s. The theme will be: "A Man's Role in the Spiritual Life of His Family." So, come and get a Spiritual Renewal!! We will have a full hot breakfast each day thanks to Ron Bagwell. Saturday lunch sandwiches. Steaks Saturday night YUMMM!! ( thanks to Fred Hallowell & Joe Forness). Friday night will be burgers and brats as usual. Sign up early and invite your friends. Come for the Friday activities and enjoy the fellowship. All meals and lodging are furnished through the fee - $145 for Sat/Sun and an additional $70 for food and lodging if you come for Friday night. A Look at Christian Relics A Look at Christian Relics is going to be a fun-filled three-week Wednesday night series taught by Dr. April Love-Fordham. Enthusiasts and skeptics alike will enjoy spending time together debating the pros and cons of these mysterious objects. Is there a scriptural basis for relics having supernatural powers? Why do so many people love visiting them? We will talk about some of the relics that might be authentic and the ones that are surely fakes. Come to the front half of Jeffords Hall at 6:30 p.m. for the program. April 4: Scripture and Christian Relics April 11: Relics from the Gospel Story April 18: Relics from the Resurrection 5
6 HOLY SATURDAY & PALM SUNDAY Holy Saturday Prayer Service 8:00 a.m., March 31 in the Memorial Garden (weather permitting) The Holy Saturday Prayer Service is a bridge between the grief and hopelessness of Good Friday, and the joy and celebration of Easter. It is a service of hope. There is no Eucharist and the service lasts maybe 20 min. Palm Sunday and Easter Morning Notes: No Sunday School on Palm Sunday or Easter Day. There will be a full breakfast in Jeffords Hall on Palm Sunday, and Continental breakfast in Jeffords Hall on Easter Sunday. There will be a procession of palms led by a donkey, starting in the front of Jeffords Fellowship Hall at 9:00 a.m. & 11:15 a.m. The procession of palms for 7:45 a.m. and Chapel Mass will start at the front door of the church. On Easter Sunday, after the 9:15 a.m. service, you will gather for Easter egg hunt for 2 s 3rd grade, refreshments, and a visit with the Easter Bunny in the Crossing outside the lower Jeffords Hall classrooms. Yes! Sunday School on April 8! The Thursday Morning Bible Study celebrated their annual Easter Bonnet Fashion Show as we enjoyed a Spring Brunch following class. 7 FAMILY FORUM ON WEDNESDAY NIGHTS Parenting Paths: Finding Direction in Your Parenting Journey April 11 & 18, 2018, 6:30-7:30 pm, in the back half of Jeffords Hall. Since parenting is not one-size-fits-all, at Parenting Paths we will take a different approach. Together we will explore our family values and combine these with what we know from brain science, child development, and social emotional fundamentals to lay out a path for your unique parenting journey. Parenting Paths is a free interactive workshop, so come ready to learn, share, and connect! Childcare is provided. 8 NEW MEMBER S RECEPTION ON MARCH 18 EASTER FLOWERS Giving to the Easter Flower Fund is a lovely way to honor loved ones as we celebrate the resurrection of Our Lord. The donations are used to purchase flowers, garland, greenery, etc. which the Flower Guild uses to decorate St. David s for Easter. Easter Flower Offering Flowers for decorating St. David s for Easter services are made possible by your generous donations. The suggested donation is $50. If you wish to donate toward our Easter flowers, fill in this form and return it to the church office by ASAP, to ensure proper recognition and celebration in our Easter bulletins.
