Page Two Fourth Sunday of Advent December 21, 2008 Dear Parishioners of St. Isaac Jogues: Mark Twain's "A Christmas Wish" Revised for the 21st Century Mr. Twain: It is my heart-warming and world embracing Christmas hope and aspiration that all of us-- the high, the low, the rich, the poor, the admired, the despised, the loved, the hated, the civilized, the savage (every man and brother of us all throughout the whole earth), may eventually be gathered together in a heaven of everlasting rest and peace and bliss, except the inventor of the telephone.. My response: With due respect for heaven's blissful reign, I disagree with Mister Twain. Reserve not a place in hell for Alexander Graham Bell. Save it for the technocratic drone who invented that all invasive cell phone! -Fr. Andrew Luczak (who does not want a cell Phone for Christmas ) Choicest Blessing at Christmas and Peace, Good Health, and Happiness in 2009! Prayerfully, Father Bernard Kennedy, OFM I extend to you my good wishes and prayers as we come to celebrate Christmas this year. Your parish is like a second home to me since I've been coming to you for at least 5 years. To be sure I enjoy the opportunity I have to celebrate the Eucharist with you as well as other Sacramental moments. The parties in which I am included are also wonderful signs of inclusion into a vibrant faith community. Even though I don't know everyone's name, faces are indeed familiar now and I appreciate your greetings whenever I see you. Thank you again for your many kindnesses over the years. God Bless You One and All. Fr. Ron Kalas CHRISTMAS GREETING On December 25, each year we celebrate the birthday of Jesus of Nazareth. This year He will be over two thousand years old. Then, why do we have a crib? It reminds us that He was born the same way we were. His mother, Mary, had to nurse Him and bathe Him. As a baby, He was totally dependent on her and Joseph for nourishment and protection. He had to learn to crawl, to walk, even to run. At about the same time as we began to talk, He learned to speak Aramaic which He undoubtedly spoke with a Galilean accent. He also learned Hebrew at the Nazareth synagogue so that He could read the scriptures. Joseph almost certainly taught Jesus his craft. In other words, He was like us in all things but sin. As He grew in stature, He assimilated the roles which prepared Him for His public ministry. Like us He became wise by learning from His mistakes. Thus, He led a life so much like ours that we can truly model our own on Him. David Stagaman, S.J.

May the peace of Christ comfort you in this holy season and His light and love companion you through the new year. The Bereavement Ministry As we celebrate the birth of a Special Child - a Savior, a King, Prince of Peace - let us give thanks to our God for coming to dwell among us, for becoming one of us, for the sole purpose of bringing salvation to all of mankind. Let us thank Our Blessed Mother for the gift of herself, for her trust and faith in God, for allowing Him to use her as the channel for this miraculous birth. Let us thank Joseph for his trust, and for his faithfulness to Mary and her Beloved Son. As we celebrate the birthday of this Infant Jesus, our prayer for you is a gift that only He can give - the gift of Love and Peace and Hope - may your hearts be filled with these gifts all through the coming year. Wishing you a Blessed and Merry Christmas. Love and Peace and Hope from the Spiritual Life Commission.

Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy before the Lord; for he is come... Psalm 96: 11-13a Let us rejoice at His coming! The Ministers of Care HUMAN CONCERNS Christmas is more than just the celebration of the birth of the Christ child. It is a way of reminding us of our own spiritual birth. When we give gifts to our family and friends, we remember and acknowledge those that we love. We are in effect showing our gratitude for the gift of Love that our heavenly Father made to us by giving us his Son. We are in a sense, passing on this Gift from God to our own loved ones. The joy we receive from the act of Christmas gift giving reawakens the child in all of us and it adds to our own spiritual growth. May the spirit of Christmas shine its light on all the days of our lives. May our grief be turned into joy by the celebration of our loving Savior s birth. Widows Group May the birth of our Savior, the Prince of Peace, bless you and yours this Christmas season and throughout the coming year. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. The Family of Hopeline Peace be with all our SIJ family members! The St. Vincent De Paul membership

But the elderly Abraham and Sarah were still childless, which seemed to contradict God s earlier promise to them. Today s passage will tell us how this problem is resolved. HEBREWS: The author of the letter to the Hebrews frequently held up Old Testament heroes as models of faith. He did this because he was writing to a community whose faith was wavering. Today he presents, as examples, Abraham and Sarah whose faith had survived severe testing. A Christmas Meal Blessing Leader: As we light our candles on this feast of light, may the eternal light of God that shines with splendor in the stars shine upon our table and fill our home. May the spirit of God that shone in the star of Bethlehem surround our table and fill our food and our hearts with its holy light. (Candles on table are lit) Leader: Today the angels sing on earth, unto us a child is born, Alleluia! All: A Son is given to us. Alleluia! L: God, our Father, we bless you. You so loved the world that you have sent your Son to us, Jesus, the Word made flesh. We thank you, Our Father, for this festive meal which brings all of us together in joy. On this day when we celebrate the birth of your Son, God, Our Father, we praise you for giving us Jesus, the light that rises in the night and dispels all darkness. Bless those here present, those we entrust to your Loving care and this our Christmas dinner celebration in Your holy name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We have tried to keep close track of these names for our Bulletin as they are made available to us. However, now we face an important privacy issue, very much like the issues faced by hospitals, health institutions, and certainly by other parishes. We cannot (by law) publicly let our parish community know the health status of any of our members without their permission. We appreciate the fact that often friends, neighbors, and acquaintances wish to do something special for a person who is ill, and ask to place their name on the list to be prayed for. While their intentions are surely good, we simply can no longer accept names in this manner. We will institute a new process regarding calling in names for the Bulletin list. Names for the sick list placed in the Bulletin have to be called in by the person who is ill, or by a member of their family. At the time they call in the name, they will be asked whether they are the sick person him/ herself, or a member of their family, and if they give permission for the name to be placed on the list. They will be asked for the correct spelling of the sick person's name. If a family member, they will be required to give their name for our records. Thank you for your patience regarding this new process. We wish to do all we can to offer our parish community the opportunity to offer prayers for those who are ill but we must also be cognizant of the fact that all members of our congregation are entitled to their privacy in this regard.
