2 Page Two Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 26, 2014 PARISHFEST - ACCOLADES A World of Flavor and Harmony What better way to celebrate our annual patronal feast than with a Taste of what makes us both many and one? The Liturgy honored St. Isaac Jogues and the North American Martyrs with a Catholic appreciation of Native American Culture. We are grateful to Bill Bucholtz for his haunting mastery of the tribal flute and to Lisa Hall and the choir for music that was spirit-filled and inviting to the congregation. Our Taste of St. Isaac Jogues has been months in planning. Thanks to the Parish Life Commission - - and especially Dee Stanton and Renata Jaroslawski - - the menu and décor reflected a recognition of our multicultural identify and a unifying openness to one another s gifts. Those who provided the food deserve special applause. It was like International tapas - - small portions with great flavor... an adventure in tasting the world. Our Taste continued in the Holy Family Room with Patty and the Melts, a.k.a. Lisa Hall and her All Star Family. Thank you for our second annual song and dance - - everything from the Twist to Elvis and the Hokey Pokey! Another grateful salute... to Nancy Winans and Kathy Denning for chairing this year s 50/50 raffle. The raffle netted a profit of $10,166! To all who supported the raffle, made donations and attended the Parishfest... Thank you for being an important part of this Parish Family of Faith! TO TEACH WHO CHRIST IS : Raising the Roof - Number 1 Priority Last weekend, Deacon Paul Stanton and I spoke at all the Masses. Our purpose was to provide an Update on the progress of the To Teach Who Christ Is campaign. With $435,841 in pledges collected, we are at the half way mark to the parish goal of $817,000. The remarkable thing is that only 1/3 of registered parishioners have made pledges. That is a 36% participation rate. It is one of the reasons WHY we have re-launched the campaign. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO MAKE OUR GOAL? When we first listed the priorities of our parish case, we estimated $30,000 for roof repair. Now it has become painfully obvious, after more complete examination of the roof, that it is not roof repair, but roof replacement that is necessary. Two professional estimates for roof replacement are around $500,000! It is our number one priority. After our homilies, commitment cards were distributed. We were most eager to receive first pledges or extended pledges. The extended pledge has been stretched from three to five years. Those who have already pledged are asked to consider an additional sacrificial pledge. We deeply appreciate the 293 who already have pledged. Whether they can add more to support the campaign or not, they remain real STEWARDS of what God has graciously given them! Tabulating the results of the re-launched campaign, shows that 66 indicated yes to pledging 30 are praying over the decision to add or extend their pledge 48 checked AMEN to show they have pledged 19 told us they will not pledge 11 were visitors Fr. Bernie Kennedy encouraged me with an old Irish Blessing: May the roof above us never fall in, And the friends below never fall out. The wisdom of the Irish - - even when it is funny - - goes a long way. It is my prayer that you, our friends below will never fall out, but will help us to raise the roof! -Fr. Luczak

3 Page Three Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 26, 2014 Confirmation Year II Candidates need to be in the parking lot by 5:45 p.m. Monday night to go on the bus to St. Martha Parish for the dinner and Saint presentation. Deacon Paul and Mr. Lenart will go on the bus with them. Parents/guardians are reminded the students will be back around 8 p.m. for pick up with the other children. The November newsletter is being sent home today with Kindergarten and on Monday with Gr. 1-Con. Yr. II classes. Please pay particular attention to the Food Basket Service Project for Thanksgiving! The free demonstration day is being done by The Chicago Lighthouse for People who are Blind or Visually Impaired this Wednesday, Oct. 29 in the Community Room on the lower level at Maine Township, 1700 Ballard Road, Park Ridge, 10 a.m. 3 p.m. ST. JOSEPH TABLE PLANNING COMMITTEE It s time to start thinking about the 2015 St. Joseph Table! Our first planning meeting will be Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the Holy Family Room. This will probably be our only meeting until after the new year. Come share your ideas to make this another beautiful and prayerful celebration which glorifies God, honors St. Joseph, and helps those in need through our St. Vincent DePaul Ministry. While this began as a Sicilian tradition, it has been embraced by many people and cultures all are welcome to come plan. If planning is not your gift, there will be other ways you can participate closer to the St. Joseph Table, which will be held on Sunday, March 15, YANKEE CANDLE ORDERS Candles add a festive spirit to our holiday meals and décor and make wonderful gifts! Yankee Candle Orders will be accepted the weekends of Nov. 1-2 and Nov. 8-9 with a delivery date of Dec. 13/14 in time for Christmas. Checks are to be made payable to Guild One St. Isaac Jogues Women s Club. Please read Advent/Christmas sections of the Lector Workbook and Source Book. LITURGICAL MINISTERS GATHERING will be held in the context of a Holy Hour this Thursday, October 30, at 7 p.m. in the Church. Interested parishioners are welcome even if not liturgical ministers. 5 Page Five Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 26, 2014 ALL SAINTS DAY MASSES All Saints Day is Saturday, November 1 st, and while a holy day, is not a holy day of obligation this year. The All Saints Day Mass will be at 8:00 a.m. There will also be a Mass in Polish at 12:45 p.m. following the Wypominki. All holy men and women, pray for us! WYPOMINKI The Wypominki, Rosary of Remembrance, will be prayed in Polish and English at 11:45 a.m. next Saturday, November 1 st. The names of the dead will be read between each of the mysteries of the Rosary. Wypominki envelopes (All Souls Day envelopes with a W on it) are available in the Church. Please place your envelope in today s collection or return it to the Rectory or RE Office by this Tuesday so we can compile the list. Thank you. St. Isaac Jogues Men s Club presents The Banjo Buddies Dixieland Trio Sunday, November 9th - Doors open at 2:00 p.m. (arrive early for best seating) Show begins at 3:00 p.m. in the SIJ Holy Family Room. This exciting, dynamic Dixieland show band specializes in Dixieland Jazz and popular standards from the 1920 s thru the 1950 s, while appealing to all ages! Don t miss this delightful show! The cost is a donation of $12.00 cash or check accepted. Refreshments will be available. The Men s Club will be selling tickets at all Church entrances today and all Saturday and Sunday Masses including November 9th. Tickets are also available at the rectory. PURGATORIAL SOCIETY All Souls Day envelopes to enroll the names of deceased loved ones into the Purgatorial Society can be found at the doors of the church. Those in the society are remembered at a weekday Mass each week. Kindly place your envelope in the collection by November 2 nd. All Saints Day THE BOOK OF LIFE Parishioners may inscribe the names of deceased family members and friends, particularly those who died this past year, in the Book of Life, which will be located near the baptismal font beginning today. Those whose funeral Masses were held here since last All Souls Day are already inscribed in the book. We will remember all those in the Book of Life during the Universal Pray throughout the month of November. We will also pray for those who grieve the passing of their loved ones from this life and embrace them with the hope of eternal life which we have because of our belief in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

RESPECT LIFE MONTH The Church s antidote to an individualism which threatens the respect for human dignity is community and solidarity. Are we moved by the suffering of those without shelter? Do we seek to alleviate the fear, confusion and panic that women facing unexpected pregnancies may be experiencing? Do our hearts ache for elderly patients in nursing homes who feel abandoned and unwanted, having no one to visit them? Our mission is to show each person the love of Christ. As uniquely created individuals, we each have unique gifts which we are called to use to share Christ s love. We are continually given opportunities to do so in our interactions with the cashier at the grocery store, our spouses, children friends and even the people we encounter in traffic. Each of these moments is valuable beyond our realization. We may never know how much a simple gesture of compassion may affect someone s life....let us take a moment to reflect on the them, Each of Us is a Masterpiece of God s Creation, and how this truth affects both our understanding of ourselves and others and the way we live. I m grateful to the many parishes and schools nationwide which participate in the program during October, Respect Life Month, and throughout the year. Love and justice must motivate each of us to work for a transformation of our own hearts so that we can transform the world around us. This is the message of Pope Francis.
