Please let the Comptroller know of any changes at getjr.kofc@gmail.com FAITHFUL NAVIGATORS REPORT Ken Schmitt Greetings of the Day Brother Sir Knights! June is such a beautiful month. Nature abounds with life colorful plants are in bloom; baby rabbits, squirrels, and chipmunks are scurrying about the yard; and the vegetable garden is starting to yield early bounty and the NJ Tomato plants are really beginning to develop. It is also the time of town picnics and fireworks; and it is nearly impossible to not smell at least one BBQ in the neighborhood on any given weekend. And of course, it is a time of Graduations and transitions. So too in our Assembly.

3 As I look back on this past year, I am certainly so thankful for having the opportunity to lead this wonderful band of Brothers of the 4 th Degree. And as we pass the torch to a new Slate of Officers I am excited for the great things that will be accomplished in the year ahead. But to pause a moment and look back, I am reminded of some of the highlights August 2017 Our Worthy Master Russ Petrocelli conducts the Installation of Officers for those Assemblies in the Second Battalion. It is a beautiful ceremony, attended by the families of the new Officers, in Our Lady of Mercy Church in Park Ridge, followed by a wonderful reception in the Church Courtyard on a beautiful Summer s evening. November 2017 A Fourth Degree Exemplification at LaNeve s Banquet Hall inducts SIX new Sir Knights into the Joseph F. Lamb Assembly. December 2017 Our Past Faithful Navigator Dinner and Christmas Gala is held at La Neve s. swords are presented; Yolanda La Rosa and Adele Artola were recognized for their support of the Joseph F. Lamb Assembly; and we held our first of many Tricky Tray Raffles that helped make some additional money for our charitable contributions. March 2018 At our monthly Business Meeting we distributed almost $2000 to various charities. I am thankful to our Charities Committee of Bob Hibler and Rick Hodgman for their direction on our charitable donations. April 2018 A Fourth Degree Exemplification at The Sheraton Tara Hotel inducts TWELVE new Sir Knights into the Joseph F. Lamb Assembly. June 2018 Brother Sir Knights Rick Hodgman, Al Lukievics, Pete Revie, and Jim O Keefe donated their time and talent at the Special Olympics. Our Assembly is blessed to have Rick champion this cause year after year. And I thank Rick, Al, Pete and Jim for attending this year. I know it was a rewarding experience for them and I know their dedication is appreciated. After years without a Faithful Friar we were blessed with the addition of Fr. Ray Rodrigue to our Assembly. I thank him for his spiritual guidance and his friendship. We also witnessed the passing of two great Sir Knights, and dear friends Ken Kaphammer and Lou Iozia. These men will forever have an imprint on us. We are better men, better Knights, because of them. And so it goes. A year filled with triumphs and tribulations; and we are blessed to be a part of it all. I thank the Assembly for your support; and I hope that we continue to flourish. My hope is that you participate in OUR Assembly as much as you are able. I realize that by the time we devote ourselves to our family and our individual Councils, there is little time left for Fourth Degree functions. I would encourage you to come to the Business Meetings. Come to the Events. You may be surprised that there IS something for you to not only contribute (we all have a TALENT), but also to get something in return whether it is joy in being with other Knights, or pride in being a part of this 4 th Degree, or just that good feeling you get inside when you are a part of something bigger that yourself. Be engaged. Participate. I would like to thank the Officers from this 2017/2018 Columbian Year. You help to make the role of Navigator both enjoyable and fruitful. Your contribution sets you apart and I am truly honored to lead this Assembly with you. Finally, I must thank our Faithful Comptroller George Thompson, Jr. There is so much behind the scenes activity that must occur. George sees to it that all of that is handled. Forms are filed on time. Cards are distributed on time. Requests are made to the appropriate people, in the appropriate manner, and well in advance of when they are due. Color Corps Report Attention Sir Knights, especially the newer members. Many of the Color Corps members have aged out and can no longer carry out the duties of the Color Corps.

Hillside Place Ridgewood, N Start Time: 10:00 AM Mass At Paramus Veterans There are many Catholic Veterans in residence at the Paramus Veterans Home.

Members of councils and assemblies in the Bergen Federation have been providing this assistance at 10:00 a.m. on the 2 nd and 4 th Saturday of each month.

This is an informal process, just show up at the Paramus Veterans Home and lend a hand pushing a wheelchair. Eucharistic ministers are also urgently needed.

4 Color Corps Report Attention Sir Knights, especially the newer members. Many of the Color Corps members have aged out and can no longer carry out the duties of the Color Corps. All of you have seen the admiration and respect engendered when the corps perform a ritual. Wednesday, July 4, 2018 Fourth of July Parade Ridgewood Council Muster Time: 8:30 AM 67 N. Hillside Place Ridgewood, N Start Time: 10:00 AM Mass At Paramus Veterans There are many Catholic Veterans in residence at the Paramus Veterans Home. Several of them are disabled and need assistance in getting from their quarters to the location where the Mass is celebrated and after the Mass to return to their quarters. Members of councils and assemblies in the Bergen Federation have been providing this assistance at 10:00 a.m. on the 2 nd and 4 th Saturday of each month. More Knights are needed to provide this assistance, since the health and physical capabilities of many of the long-timers precludes them from providing this act of charity. PROTOCOL One of the things that sets the Knights of Columbus apart from other organizations is our Protocol. Many of the Rules of Protocol that we follow were explained when we took our First Degree. Sometimes, we forget the way that we should conduct ourselves during a meeting. The Faithful Navigator is the presiding officer during the meeting and he must keep control of the meeting. With the cooperation of the membership, the meetings can flow quickly and efficiently. If a member wishes to speak, he does so by rising from his seat, addressing the chair with Faithful Navigator and saluting at the same time. The Faithful Navigator will return the salute and acknowledge the member. All questions and speech are directed through the chair. There may be other situations that arise that are not covered by a rule. But by applying common courtesy to each other, we cannot go wrong. Finally, we should show proper consideration for the office represented by the person.
