3 Faithful Navigator s report At our general meeting on February 21, I had the honor of officially presenting their 4 th degree certificates to some of our new sir Knights exemplified this past fall. These included SK Ed Davis, SK Ray Dunaway, SK Louis Russo and SK John James (p. 4). In addition, our spring Exemplification was held in Carthage this past March 11. We are delighted to have welcomed two more new Sir Knights into the MTA; SK Rogelio (Rocky) Rodriguez and SK Jacobe Chandler. This brings our new membership total this fraternal year to 18. Congratulations to all for your hard work and dedication leading to this achievement! Our Color Corps was represented at the Exemplification in Carthage and as part of the Corporate Communion held at St. Joseph Catholic Church on March 18. Our thanks to all who go the extra mile in making our Assembly visible through these Color Corps turnouts. A new slate of officers for the fraternal year will be presented at our general meeting this month on April 18. We also plan to showcase the budget for the new year at such time. Please come and give us your input in the running of your Assembly. Don t forget our Ladies appreciation dinner on April 22. Also note that we have set the Awards Banquet for July 8. 6 Comptroller s Report and April Thoughts SK Chester Salacinski, Faithful Comptroller Report: Membership currently stands at 199 members. There are still 12 members who have not paid their dues for this year. We are working to contact and assist them in becoming member in good standing once again. Finally: Remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for. Epicurus Laughter is the Best Medicine. Every day is a gift and we have an obligation to share that gift with others. An excellent way to do that would be to find something to either smile about or laugh about each day and share it with another. Show me a person who doesn t laugh and I ll show you someone who doesn t know how to live. If you cannot find something to smile about or laugh about then just ask yourself this question. If you were someone else, would you want to be friends with you? We can always find humor in ourselves. There are no new sins; the old ones just get more publicity. When you are dissatisfied and would like to go back to your youth, think of Algebra. Did you ever notice that the Roman Numerals for forty are XL. 7 Captain s corner: How to Amend a Motion? An amendment to a motion is really a new motion made to change or modify the previous motion which is under consideration. An amendment may do one of four things: 1. Add or insert a certain word or words, or a sentence, to the motion under consideration. 2. Strike out a certain word or words, or a sentence, in the motion under consideration. 3. Substitute another motion for the one being considered. SK Rick Bentine, PGK Faithful Captain 4. Substitute words or replace wording under consideration. An amendment, like the principal motion, must be seconded. It is also debatable, and may again be amended. The proper form for making an amendment is: I move to amend the motion to read.... or I move to amend the motion by.... The amendment to a motion, if seconded, must be voted upon before the original motion. If the amendment to the motion is carried, the original motion, must be voted upon as amended. On the other hand, if the amendment is lost, the motion is voted upon as originally stated. In case of an amendment to an amendment, the last amendment is always voted upon first. If it is carried, the preceding amendment is then voted upon as amended. MTA 2506 Newsletter April,

15 In Memory This month we mourn the loss of one of our Brothers, Sir Knight Paul Hoke. He will be missed by his many friends in the Assembly and from Council at St. Anthony. SK Paul left us in what it should have ben the prime of his life. He had much potential and his passing is a sad event and a great loss for us in the Knights of Columbus. He is in God s hands now. Tempus fugit, memento mori. We know these words well. Let us keep Sir Knight Paul Hoke and his family in our prayers. May he be at rest and in the presence of our Lord Jesus! 16 Historical patriot of the month Patrick Henry ( ) Patrick Henry was an American attorney, politician and planter who became an orator during the movement for independence. He was one of the Founding Fathers and served twice as the Governor of Virginia. Henry led the opposition to the Stamp Act of1765 and is most remembered for his "Give me liberty, or give me death!" speech. After the Revolution, Henry became a leader of the anti-federalists. Initially, he opposed the United States Constitution, fearing that it might endanger the rights of the States as well as individual freedom. Henry was instrumental in the adoption of the Bill of Rights. Subsequently; however, he became a supporter of President John Adams and the Federalists. After marrying, Henry began to acquire extensive land holdings. He and his wife retired to Red Hill Plantation, a 520 acre spread where he grew tobacco. MTA 2506 Newsletter April,

17 Parting thoughts of the month Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you. Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me. Our Lord Jesus words as written in Matthew 5:42 and 25:40, respectively, are worth considering by all of us. I can tell you that in my 45+ years of a professional career that has included extensive international and domestic travel, I have seen many a person in need. I think of the great number of blessings that have come my way and of the many opportunities that I have had to achieve prosperity and can t help but to be thankful to God for all that I have received. But with success also comes responsibility. There are so many out there for whom (and for whatever the reason) the good life has been from elusive to entirely unreachable! Doing what we can to help those who are less fortunate than we are is an integral pat of being a Christian. As members of the Knights of Columbus we know this well. We must always be generous and should not take anything for granted. We come into the world with nothing and we will take nothing material with us when our time comes. Whatever we end up having in this word is certainly on borrowed time. Thus, as we enjoy what God has allowed us to have in our lives, we remember our duty to help those who have little. We can t earn our passage into heaven without God s infinite mercy, but in aiding those in need we are doing what He expects us to do. God bless! SK Robert Font MTA 2506 Newsletter April,
