Greetings Sir Knights, Blessings to you and your families, may you be enjoying the Kingdom of God. On New Year's Eve, Daniel was in no shape to drive, so he sensibly left his car parked and walked home. As he was wobbling along, he was stopped by a policeman. 'What on earth are you doing out here walking at four o'clock in the morning?' asked the police officer. 'I'm on my way to a lecture,' answered Roger. 'And who on earth, in their right mind, is going to give a lecture at this time on New Year's Eve?' enquired the constable sarcastically. 'My wife,' slurred Daniel grimly. Like every new year most of us make new resolutions& some we keep most we don t. Our leaders in Supreme have also made some resolutions& some concerning councils that have home associations and some concerning the forth degree. 3 Page 3 SK Greg Haag, Faithful Captain Greetings Brothers, Sir Knights, According to Msgr. Kevin E. Ryan the Spiritual Director and Pastor of St. Mark the Evangelist church, the 2014 Celebration honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe, held on December 7 th, was the best and most well attended service since its inception! The Msgr. went on to say that one of the main reasons was the support of the Knights of Columbus! It is always an honor to be part of this very Iconic Group, but it feels especially good to be recognized publicly! The Federation of Guadalupanos of the Archdiocese of San Antonio was well represented, there were over 22 different Banners featuring Our Blessed Mother surrounded by Her angels and roses that were proudly carried down the center isles and placed along the walls of the church for all to appreciate. The atmosphere of this magnificent celebration was accented by the authentically dressed Indian dance group with their drum core, the wonderful choral group and musicians and the world famous Pipe and brass horn house organ that was artfully played by the church organist. I hearty suggest that you drop by St, Marks Church some time and hear this magnificent organ. What a wonderful experience for both the eye and the ear. The Homily by Most Rev. Gustavo Garcia-Siller was about What Are We Waiting For? His homilies are always heartfelt and this one was no exception! He explained that we as Catholics sometimes stand by and wait for something to happen when in reality we need to get off our duffs and get our hands dirty, which is exactly what we knights do on a daily, weekly, monthly and yearly bases. Why wait when the Holy Spirit and Jesus are right here right now!! So as he said get out and get going for Jesus! He also gave the Knights recognition, as he always does. There were about 22 of us in full regalia and another half a dozen in tuxes. I must say we looked good and proud!! It was an honor to be there! I'm looking forward to next year s celebration and I hope to see you there with me! 2015 looks to be a very good year there is much on the horizon! HAPPY NEW YEAR! Also 3rd Degree Jose from Council continue to help out regularly. We need to give these guys a break! I have been asked by several members why we don t assign members to help out in the kitchen so, we are going to start assigning members from the general membership to help out on Tuesdays and Fridays so, start looking at the calendar and watching your for alerts. We will also call you, through a message system, to remind you of when you are scheduled to help out.

4 Page 4 Page 4 Continued from pg. 2 / FN Report mailed out to each of you. Of the ones that have been returned the VAVS sections has been left blank on all of them. So what is VAVS? On October 7, 2011 a memorandum was sent to the Vice Supreme Masters and the District Masters and they in turn sent it to the Faithful Navigators. This memorandum was from George Hanna, Senior Vive President of Fraternal Services Department. The memorandum was regarding the Knights of Columbus, Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services (VAVS) National Advisory Committee (NAC) and Volunteer of the year award. The full letter is attached on page 6 and 7 named, The VAVS Memorandum. In a letter to the Masters of Our Lady of Guadalupe Province from Daniel Hogan, IPSD, Vice Supreme Master, dated December 17, 2014, (Pages 8, 9 & 10) he wrote, Our Supreme Knight, Carl Anderson, has stated: The Fourth Degree shall have one set of rules, one Drill Manual, and one Color Corps. The Goal of the Province is for every member of the Color Corps to be able to serve in any District in the Province or Supreme Event with confidence and with minimal correction of action. The Laws and Rules Governing the Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus dated September 2012, and the Color Corps Drill Manual dated October 4, 2008 are the primary references to be used for direction. He also states that, It is the responsibility of the Color Corps Com-mander to assure that his Color Corps Members are trained and qualified to serve. Correct me if I am mistaken, but as I understand his statement means that the Color Corps is to be comprised of qualified members. If I m not mistaken, what this comes down to is that one must qualify to be in the color Corps and only qualified color corps members can participate in turn-outs and district fall-outs. It seems to me that just having full regalia does not qualify one to participate in turn-outs and district fall-outs. On top of that we now have to have tuxedo shoes to be a member. As Faithful Navigator, in order to comply with these directives, I have informed Jesse Aguilar, our Color Corps Commander to equip his assistants with the proper training and to assemble a membership from our Assembly 1855 for a Color Corp unit. Once the Color Corps unit is assembled we will begin the process of training and certifying the unit to perform as ONE. If you would like to be a member of the Color Corps please contact me, Pedro Ybarra, FN at (210) so we can get you started. If you are a new member of the 4th Degree you do not have to have full regalia. If you have full regalia but would not like to participate in the color Corps please consider selling it to someone that would like to participate in the Color Corps. You do not need full regalia to be a Sir Knight. If you do have full regalia and would like to participate in turn-outs and districts fall-outs you must first join the color corps and go through the training and be certified to qualify. Candidates need to be read and voted on and go before the admissions committee before being accepted for the exemplification. Forms 4s must be filled out by the candidate s council financial secretary, certifying he is in good standing, before being turned in to the assembly. (Make sure he has paid his council dues for 2015 as they are due by exemplification day.) As a result the assembly dead line for form 4s with dues is January 06, An exemplification packet has been prepared for each candidate with all the information they need.
