Dear Brothers and Sisters, Today is election day As we come to the end of this season, let us remember that whatever the outcome, God is still the God of the universe and all that is in it. I saw a facebook post on election day that was a picture of the earth from the moon and the caption was, I would love to drag all of the politicians out here and let them see just how unimportant they are. At times, we get so caught up in the wrangling of our own political ideologies as well as our theological opinions that we forget to remind ourselves who is really in control. I imagine that as God watches not only our election, but the election and transfer of power in all of the nations of the world, God must get amused at our declaration and inflation of our own importance. We are entering into a season of thanksgiving. I know for myself this year I will be thankful that it will be another four years before we put ourselves through this again. I look forward to the season of Advent when once again we as Christians declare that Jesus is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords and that his kingdom is so much larger and more just than any kingdom that s ever been created by human design. I am sure, although I do not know the results of the election at this writing, that there will be those among our congregation who breathe a deep sigh of relief and others whose anxieties are heightened. Let s all try to trust that none of us, not presidents or senators or congressional leaders or judges or any human being, are in control. We are the people who declare that God is in control and that God is working out the kingdom of Christ amongst us. May God help us to see that new kingdom breaking forth in our midst. Please don t miss the Advent of the true Savior this year. Bill Neely
