CHURCH DIRECTORY Amanda Hines, Associate Pastor Kathleen Williams, Director of Christian Education Karrie Rushing, Director of Music Brian Dilday, Youth Director Brad Collier, Organist Deborah Durham, Financial Administrator Janice Gray, Office Administrator Terrence Clemons, Sexton FIRST FRIDAY CLUB Our next meeting will be this Friday, February 2nd from 6:30 9:30 pm at the church. The cost will be $5.00 to cover dinner. First Friday is for fourth and fifth graders. Contact Brian Dilday with questions, A Word from the Youth Director It all started in 1990 with a simple prayer, "Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those who are without a bowl of soup to eat." These words were delivered by Brad Smith in Spring Valley Presbyterian Church in Columbia, South Carolina to inspire a youth-led movement to help hungry and hurting people around the world. For as long as I can remember, we have participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring and our donations have always gone to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. We kick it off the week before by hitting the roads and collecting canned foods from various neighborhoods. Even with the wet Sunday afternoon, we didn't let that slow us down! Because of the generosity of many Greenville residents and church members, we collected 508 cans. This Sunday, we will finish the job on Super Bowl Sunday! The youth will be ready and waiting after each service to receive canned goods and monetary donations from the congregation to add to what has already been collected. The Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina receives volunteers in three ways--giving of time and volunteering, donating items, and accepting monetary donations. Because of the generosity of this congregation, we are able to meet their needs in all three areas. Each month, the youth travel to the Food Bank and spend several hours assisting wherever needed. Along with our Souper Bowl of Caring drive, our church collects items for the Food Bank all throughout the year. We also have many generous donors from First Presbyterian who give monetary support. It is amazing how far the Souper Bowl of Caring has come since 1990 when it started with 22 churches and raised a little more than $5,000. Today, more than 10,000 groups participate in this annual event that has raised more than $10 million per year. I am proud of our church and of how our youth step up to fight hunger and poverty by joining in this national movement. It definitely allows us to enjoy the Super Bowl a little more when you know you are helping others by putting food on the table. It is events like this that allow our congregation to share in the journey and grow in our faith together. God bless, Brian Dilday, Youth Director
