It is Thursday, September 22nd, 1:00 p.m. at Ironwood Golf Club. Entry forms are available at the church, or download it by clicking here: Mayfest Golf Form. Return forms to the church office with your entry fee asap. We would like to have a headcount of participants so we can allow for food and beverage purchasing. You are encouraged to sign up and come on out, it will be a fun time, with good fellowship and as always, will help some very worthy causes. CONFIRMATION CLASS of 2017 If you are an 8th grader or higher and are interested in joining this year's Confirmation Class, please let Brian Dilday know. There will be a parent meeting on Monday, October 3rd for parents and youth who are interested in this year's class. It is highly encouraged to come to the Mid High Retreat although not mandatory. Confirmation is the opportunity for students to reaffirm their faith and become a voting member of the congregation. Members of the class will participate in a series of Sunday School classes and retreats. Each member will have the opportunity to select a Sponsoring Elder or Mentor to help them along this path. YOUTH GROUP Attention Rising 6th graders and higher--if you are interested in joining our Youth program and you were unable to attend the meeting on Sunday, please Brian Dilday at fpcyouthgreenville@gmail.com for information. MISSION TRIP 2017 The youth will be traveling to Pine Ridge, South Dakota for this summer's mission trip from July 2nd-July 9th, If you are interested in joining the youth on this trip, please contact Brian Dilday at or fpcyouthgreenville@gmail.com. FIRST FRIDAY CLUB Our next meeting will be on September 30th. We will be at the church for dinner, games, and fellowship and the cost is $5.00 for dinner. We will have pizza. AGE VENTURERS TRIP The trip to Durham for a guided tour of the Duke Lemur Center has been moved to October 25. The tour begins at 1 0: 30 a.m. We will leave the church at 8:00 a.m. and be back by 3:00 p.

3 AGE VENTURERS TRIP The trip to Durham for a guided tour of the Duke Lemur Center has been moved to October 25. The tour begins at 1 0: 30 a.m. We will leave the church at 8:00 a.m. and be back by 3:00 p.m. Cost is $13 which includes tour and transportation. Lunch is on your own at Honey s Restaurant. Upcoming trips are November 1 to the CSS Neuse Civil War Interactive Center in Kinston and December 6 to the Rocky Hock Playhouse in Edenton to see The Road to Bethlehem. Space is limited so make your reservation by October 16. PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN CT meets September 26, 10:00 a.m. at the church. All Presbyterian Women are invited to lunch at McAlister s on Tuesday, September 27, 12:30 p.m. Circle meetings for October: Circle 1 will meet October 10, 10:30 a.m.; Circle 3 will meet October 10, 2:00 p.m. at the home of Sarah Winbourne; Circle 6 will meet October 11, 7:00 p.m., in the church parlor; Cypress Glen Circle will meet October 11, 10:00 a.m., at Cypress Glen. The Fall Gathering will be October 24, 12:00 noon, in the Fellowship Hall. MOC EVENTS The Men of the Church will meet for devotion and breakfast on Tuesday, October 4, 7:00 a.m. at the Seahorse Restaurant. Cost is $9. HELPING HANDS Has age or disability made simple tasks a high risk adventure? If so, Men of the Church have Helping Hands to perform tasks for you. We will gladly carry boxes to the attic or basement, change light bulbs or smoke alarm batteries, retrieve items from top shelves, etc. Just call Janice in the church office ( ) to schedule your Helping Hands. STEWARDSHIP MOMENT (Devotion written by a church member) Earlier this year my wife s grandfather passed away after a long, full life. As part of the settlement of his estate, each of the grandchildren received a small inheritance. It got me to thinking about all the many ways in which we receive help and assistance from our families, especially parents and grandparents. In our first two decades of life, we receive the basic sustenance we need to grow into adulthood: food, clothing, and shelter. We receive the education that allows us to make our way in the world, help with tuition for college and books, that first car or apartment, perhaps a loan to start a business. We also receive more intangible gifts from our elders: discipline, guidance, mentorship, role models, love. When you stop to actually count up all the things our parents and grandparents have given us, the sheer magnitude of how abundantly blessed we are can become overwhelming. In Psalm 68, David sings of God s abundance given to His people. Verses 9-10 (NIV): You gave abundant showers, O God; you refreshed your weary inheritance. Your people settled in it (the promised land), and from your bounty, O God, you provided for the poor. Of course we understand that, in our fallen world, not everyone has received the abundant blessings of a loving family. Many grow up without knowing a parent, or both parents, or grandparents. Many receive only abuse from those they must put their trust in to provide for them, and they bear the lifelong scars of that abuse. But we can rest assured that everyone, rich or poor, those from fatherless or motherless homes or those who know both parents, can count on the provisions God has made for us through the gift of His Son, Jesus Christ. May we always remember that when earthly blessings fail us, God s blessings will always prevail. Share the Journey; Grow in Faith

4 Youth News: Thank you everyone for coming out to the Parent Meeting/Pot Luck Dinner. We had a great turnout and it is very exciting to see our energy and enthusiasm picking up again so quickly. There was good food and good fellowship. Confirmation Class of if you are an 8th grader or higher and are interested in joining this year's Confirmation Class, please let me know. If you were unable to attend the Parent Meeting, please Brian so he can get the registration link to you as soon as possible. Mid High Retreat--October 7-9 at Camp Don Lee. It is open to all 6th-8th graders and is going to be a great time of fun, fellowship, and worship. This year's theme is "Storm Chasers of Faith". The cost will be $125, however, the Education ministry will pay a portion of this in support of our program so that the cost per participant will be $ If you have to cancel and do not attend, you will be responsible for the total amount. I will have the registration forms at the Parent Meeting for everyone to fill out and I will collect them that evening as I have to send them off on Wednesday. Forms and payment are due September 21st--this Wednesday! Sunday School--It's time to get back into the swing of things and begin attending Sunday School at 9:45. Ashtyn Clark will be teaching the mid highs and Michael Scull will be teaching the Senior Highs. Hope to see you there. Mission Trip to South Dakota--If you are interested in the Mission Trip rising 7th graders or 13 years of age and higher (July 2-9) or Montreat for rising 9th -- 12th graders (July 22-29), please send me an because we need to begin planning--airfare and possible extra housing at Montreat. After speaking with the Senior families, Youth Sunday and Confirmation Sunday will be May 21st! Other information needed: 1. A google form has been set up for registration so if you did not attend the meeting, please me so I can send you the link. 2. Mid High Students--Paperwork for the Retreat can be found in my mailbox at the church office. Please have that filled out and returned by Wednesday, September 21st. The total cost is $125 but you are only responsible for $75. The Education Ministry covers the other $50. If you cancel, you are responsible for the full $125. Meal Sign up--thank you to everyone who signed up for a Youth meal this school year. If you did not have the opportunity, I will have that sheet with me during church and youth activities for you to do so. Gift Card Raffle Basket--We will be selling tickets for the Gift Card Raffle Basket to kick off fundraising for the Fall Festival. Please turn in gift certificates to my mailbox in the church office by October 9th so that we can begin selling on the 16th. If you did not receive a copy of the Fall Calendar, I will have it with me on Sunday. This Sunday, we will meet at the church at 3:45 to go to the Council on Aging to do some weeding. We will return to the church by 5:30 for dinner. Please dress appropriately--boots and gloves--and bring hedge clippers (non-electrical). I know our program is going in the right direction because we are still growing and our energy and enthusiasm is apparent. I also learned from my mom and dad that sharing was a Christian virtue and that being selfish was against God s will for our lives. My father was the most unselfish person I have ever met. If there was one piece of chicken left and he had not had any, he would invite you to have your second or third piece because he could do without. Learning to share is something that has to be taught because our natural human tendency is to keep it all for ourselves. I believe that s why more than 2,000 times in scripture we are cautioned about the destructive nature of trying to possess and the life-giving nature of sharing. God reminds the people of Israel that as they take possession of the land, they are to remember the poor, the widow, the orphan, and the alien in their midst. They have a right to harvest their crops of grain and fruit, but they are to leave a portion to be gleaned by others so that others can also live. Yet after all these years of instruction, since the time of Moses, we the people of God still find sharing to be one of our greatest challenges. This Sunday, our second Sunday of stewardship emphasis, we will be considering the gifts that God has given us around the theme More Than Enough: to Share. Bill Neely
