1 Johnson City - Where VOLUNTEERISM Is A Way of Life! Brothers and Sisters JOHNSON CITY ELKS LODGE # 2821 NEWSLETTER JANUARY Watson Blvd., Johnson City, NY Phone - (607) ELKSJC@AOL.COM WEBSITE: NEWSLETTER EDITOR Bill Bayliff bbayliff@sc.rr.com PRINTING and DISTRIBUTION Jerry & Pat Smith Lodge Membership 206 And Growing! Let me be the first to wish all a Happy New Year. I always recall a professorr of mine who had a number of health issues, and he would always say that the best thing about a new year was that he was here to see it. While there is no question but that our beloved country has some problems, as Elks we stand for the optimistic side on mankind. There is so much good in the world, and I firmly believe that what we do is so positive in our little corner of this world. Our Christmas parties were absolutely great, and the joy we brought to those who were here was just overwhelming. So many people worked so hard, that they will be recognized in another section. Memorial Sunday was a thing of beauty. The comments were so touching, that I cannot tell you how proud I was of all the participants. Kathy Neiss is simply the best. We all know she won national honors last year, and I do not see how she can miss again. We are always looking for new members, so just a reminder that if you know of anyone who you feel you would welcome into your own home, be sure and see if they might be interested in joining us. So as Exalted Ruler, I am issuing my final order of Everybody have a Healthy, Happy and Prosperous I remain your very proud, Exalted Ruler, Bill Maney NEW YEAR S EVE PARTY! 5PM COCKTAILS 6PM DINNER $8 ROAST BEEF, BAKED POTATOES, VEGETABLES, SALAD & ROLLS. AND PAULA S HOME BAKED COOKIES Sign Up at the Lodge no later than 12/23.

If you are among the 12 please remit your dues ASAP since we have already paid your Grand Lodge and NYSEA assessments. Thanks! Dues were due on April 1 st! Please be sure to send any address changes, should you move. It is very important that I keep our lodge and Grand Lodge records current. Paul Reger, Lodge Secretary Due to the unprecedented number of unpaid dues for this late in the lodge year, we stand the very real chance of having a membership loss this year for the very first time in our history. With your help, there is still time to initiate enough new members during January, February and March to prevent that from happening. Please think about friends, neighbors and family who may want to join in our work for our community, youth and veterans and also for the fun things that we do. Now is the time to propose new members! THE VETERANS CORNER Herb Flint, Chairperson hflint@stny.rr.com ( ) LODGE #2821 HONORS OUR VETERANS So Long As There Are Veterans, The Benevolent And Protective Order of Elks Will Never Forget Them! January 18 Oxford Veterans Home Visit. Also, Please remember our Veterans on December 21 st. This will be our Christmas Party for them at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford. It will start at 2:30 and will last about an hour. We will meet at the lodge and car pool at 1:15. We would like to have a strong showing from our members to hand out gifts and perhaps to sing some Carols. They so very appreciate every little thing that we do for them and we all know how much they have done for us. Please let Herby Flint know that he can count on you. I promise you that your lives will be as enriched by this experience as will those of the veterans. (Please have any further donations in by 12/19.) THANK YOU!!! Holly, Bob and Micheal Belveg were Santa's Helper's with bringing all the gifts out. Also A Great Big Thank You to everyone thatt supported and Donated to this cause. These family's were very supprise at everything and to see the Children's faces was priceless. So all I can say is THANK YOU, THANK YOU ALL FOR WHAT YOU DID THIS YEAR,!!! Sharon Flint Look throughout this newsletter for a membership number. It will look like this **999**. If it is your number, just come to the lodge bar and claim your Friday Night Dinner For One prize certificate. The winner must come in person and show his or her membership card to the bartender. Your prize must be claimed before the month has ended. That s all there is too it! You can then use it on any Friday Night that you choose. Memorial Sunday The Johnson City Elks Memorial Service was held on Sunday, December 7 th. Although we only lost 2 members since last December, we also honored the 8 previously departed members. Six of the 10 families of our departed members were in attendance. The Officers were well prepared and carried out their duties with dignity and respect making it a most moving ceremony. Our guest speaker was District Deputy Grand Exalted Ruler Tom Karpinko. Tom spoke personally about each departed member. Our Lodge Secretary, Paul Reger, read a poem called Heaven by Catherine Riley, which told of the beauty in the Lord s Land, and the importance of our journey to paradise and that someday we will all meet there. We were honored to have past District Memorial Service Chairman, Dewitt Cox, PDD in attendance. Maria Gable, a Johnson City High School Music Scholar shared her beautiful voice with us by singing several appropriate musical selections. The House Committee Deb Valenta and Sharon Flint prepared a wonderful luncheon for our members and guests. Our Lodge presented each family with an Evergreen Cross to place at their loved ones grave. The candles used in the ceremony were inscribed with each member s names and were also given to the families. Thank you to all the Officers and members that attended. It truly showed that Elks are Never Forgotten. Kathleen Neiss, PER Memorial Sunday Committee
