1 The VIEW News of the ministries of Pleasant View Evangelical Lutheran Church January 2019 From the pen of Jim Sheets... Paul wrote, The one thing I do... is to forget what is behind me and do my best to reach what is ahead. Philippians 3: is over. Nothing can be done about it. We may be thinking I wish I had done this or I wish I had not done that. With the new year ahead of us, it seems futile to spend a lot of time dwelling on the past. Thanks be to God that we no longer have to worry about the past, because we enter 2019 as new creatures in Christ Jesus! We now walk in Christ, and daily we can press on toward the work God has called us to do. God calls us to look beyond our past mistakes and failings and to look for the glorious things to come in Letting go of the past may seem difficult. Sometimes it is but God is ready to walk with us into this new year and to give us a brand new start in Jesus Christ. The past is past. We live for today. We may not know what our future holds, but we know who holds our future in his hands. HAPPY NEW YEAR!

7 LOOKING AHEAD The January WELCA meeting will be Tuesday, January 8, at 10:00. Goldie Shiflett has invited everyone to her home for luncheon (no need to bring anything). The group will make plans for the coming year and then enjoy lunch together. Please let Goldie know immediately if you can attend, so she can plan for the food. Pleasant Memories will meet at the church on Tuesday, January 15 at 1:00 p.m. for a planning meeting. If you are interested in continuing Pleasant Memories, please come and share ideas. Everything is on the table (date and time of meetings, leadership, programs) so come and help give direction. Anyone interested in invited to attend a meeting to work on cooperative plans with Salem Church at the Verona Community Center on January 15 at 7:00. ANNOUNCEMENTS The request for winter coats for Verona Food Pantry is over. Thank you so much for your good response. Thank you: A BIG THANKS to those who helped provide the Christmas items for Augusta Nursing and Rehab. When we delivered them, the folks there were thrilled and surprised that we had donated so many items. This gave Christmas to some of their residents who otherwise may not have had a Christmas. PLEASANT VIEW CEMETERY ASSOCIATION The Cemetery Association was formed in 1982 to provide perpetual care and to operate independent from the Church. This means the Association is responsible to provide maintenance and care as long as there is a Cemetery and is operated under guidelines as set forth in the code of Virginia. All funds received for sale of grave sites, memorial contributions or any other funds received are placed in a trust fund administrated by the trust department of Union Bank. Since 1982 the Trustees have diligently tried to build this fund in order to assure funds are available to provide maintenance and care for the future. As time passes it becomes more expensive to maintain the Cemetery as expected by the families of members buried there. If you would like to make a contribution or give a memorial in memory of a loved one it would be greatly appreciated. Any memorial or contribution given to the Cemetery is tax deductible by the IRS under section 501 (c)(13). At the present time there are about five hundred grave sites still available for sale. If you have any comments pertaining to the Cemetery please feel free to share them with the Trustees. PLEASANT VIEW CEMETERY ASSOCIATION Fred D. Bowers, Secretary and Treasurer
