We will also continue to take your cans and bottles for Camp. Thank you. LWML MISSION NOTES: For JUNE we are collecting items for our local food pantry. With children out of school for the summer, it puts an extra strain on low income families. Needed items are: pancake mix and syrup, crackers, cake and brownie mixes, jello and pudding mixes, canned pasta, boxes of instant potatoes, flour, sugar, canned goods, and meals like macaroni & cheese. Dish and laundry soap, toilet paper, and toothpaste. Please place your donations in the mission container in the Narthex. Thank you for your support! It really does make a difference. 3 The LWML will be hosting a Pantry Shower for the McBee family on Sunday, June 18. We would encourage our members to help welcome the McBee Family to Zion Lutheran. Items can be brought to church anytime on the 18 th. Tables will be set up in the fellowship hall. Just a thought, if gift cards are purchased from Hy-Vee, Fareway or Casey s for the McBee s, you can do so through Zion s Jr. LYC Scrip Program. This will also benefit Jr. LYC. Thank you in advance to all who participate in this Pantry Shower. Calling All for Choir (past, present and future; regular and cantata choir people; young and old confirmed members of Zion congregation): Zion will welcome a new pastor, Pastor Kyle McBee, and his family to our congregation and share in celebrating his ordination on Sunday, June 18, in a special service at 3:00 p.m. We will be adding special music to the service. We invite each of you to join in this special choir and welcome with joy all who wish to participate. We have had one rehearsal but you are welcome to join us for the next two rehearsals on June 7 and 14 at 7:00 p.m. Please prayerfully consider this opportunity to serve our gracious God. Yours in Christ, Mike and Nancy Blair All Students attending a Christian college are eligible for the Denny Moench Memorial Scholarship - the priority will be given to students attending an LC-MS university, other Lutheran college or university, and then a Christian college or University. Priority will be given to those students entering the field of Christian Education and if there are no applicants from that field then students in other areas will be eligible for the Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a college student from Zion who will be attending college for the school year. Application forms are available in the church office. VBS SUPPLIES NEEDED: We are collecting the following items for Zion Camp VBS which will be held June White flat sheets, twin or full size, small artificial flowers, artificial greenery/trees (please label if you would like them returned), construction paper, spools of 2 ribbon, foam sheets (any size), thin gauge wire, craft glue, small craft jewels, rectangle plastic table cloths, fleece/felt, buttons (any size), large baskets, 12 ten inch or larger flower pots, 40 brown paper grocery bags. We will need COOKIES for snack time. A sign-up sheet is posted on the East bulletin board in the Narthex for anyone who is willing to provide cookies. Please sign up for Monday, June 12 or Wednesday, June 14. We also can use large cans of KOOL-AID or Lemonade Mix. Thanks. We are looking for a few more helpers in various areas for VBS. 4 CAMP VBS (Vacation Bible School) will be held, June 12-15, 9 a.m.-noon, for age 4 through going into 6 th grade. The theme is Rome, Paul and the Underground Church. Registration forms are on table in the Narthex, on the back page of the June newsletter, and on the website. Please plan to join us for the closing Vacation Bible School Program held on Thursday, June 15 at 6:30 p.m. Bring your family and friends for a fun evening with the Rome Market Place following with fun activities. Hope to see you there!! The Evangelism Board is coordinating the Sunday Morning Fellowship COFFEES to follow the worship services during the summer. Any group of individuals, families or Zion organizations are encouraged to sponsor a Sunday Morning Fellowship Coffee. A free will offering will be received to cover expenses with the remaining proceeds going toward a cause of their choice. Please sign up on the east bulletin board in the Narthex. KHBT LUTHERAN HOUR BROADCAST: The cost of broadcasting the Lutheran Hour on KHBT increased from $20 to $ The cost for the broadcast has not changed for many years. Recognizing that this is a significant increase the Evangelism Board will contribute $5 per radio broadcast with an additional $1.50 being provided from a second source. This brings to cost of sponsoring a broadcast to $25. We thank those who continue to support this wonderful ministry as we continue not only to bring Christ to the nations but Christ to Humboldt. JR. LYC Scrip Program: Orders are taken for Scrip Cards the 1 st and 3 rd Sunday of the month. By buying groceries, gas or giving them as gifts you support the Jr. LYC. The following cards allow Jr. LYC to make a reasonable profit: 1- Fareway 3 percent back 2- Hy-Vee 5 percent back 3- Casey s 3 percent back LUTHERAN WITNESS, the official publication of the LC-MS, is available to members. 5 Camp Okoboji is looking for High School and College students that are looking for a summer job. They will pay $250 per week plus room and board. Various jobs are open, plus counseling with youth. If interested call Camp Okoboji at Plan to donate blood on Monday, June 5 at the Humboldt Community BLOOD DRIVE held in Our Saviour s Lutheran Fellowship Hall from 1-6 p.m. Eligible blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 120 pounds and be in general good health. Eat a regular meal before donating blood and bring your blood donor card or photo ID. For more information about blood donation or to schedule an appointment please contact LifeServe Blood Center at (800) or online at Donation Drive: The Goodwill trailer will be at Humboldt Catholic School Parking Lot on Friday, June 9 through Monday, June 19. Trailer delivery and pickup, times may vary on dates. Carry all items as far to the front of the trailer as possible. Leave room at back of the trailer for the stairs to be loaded. Do NOT leave items outside of the trailer. They WILL NOT be picked up. See the poster on the east bulletin board in the Narthex. The Walk for Life is not a march, protest or athletic contest. It is simply an opportunity for those that affirm life to come together for prayer and fellowship while raising support for the Fort Dodge Informed Choices Medical Clinic. This is a great opportunity to get the word out about the clinic and invite people you know to join you on a team or to sponsor you financially. The Walk for Life and Pancake Breatfast will be held on Saturday, June 10 at John F. Kennedy Park in Ft. Dodge. Breakfast begins at 7:30 a.m. with the Walk Check-In at 8:30 a.m. with walking to begin at 9:00 a.m. Go to iowawalkforlife.org for more details or brochures on the table in the Narthex. The Humboldt Farmers Market will be starting on Saturday, June 24 from 8:30 a.m.-noon. It is located on the north side of Main Street under the canopies. 6 Greetings Volunteers, Today was a busy place for God s Great Gardeners at Camp Okoboji. Dr. Ralph and Sharon Von Qualen arrived with a group of gardeners from St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll, Iowa, on Friday night, and more gardeners from the area joined them this morning. We turned the maintenance garage at Camp into a temporary greenhouse and went to work potting the beautiful flowers that the Von Qualens and the Youth of St. Paul s Lutheran Church of Carroll, Iowa, grow in the Von Qualen s greenhouse. Even though some of us were drenched by heavy rains by the time we were done working, we still saw lots of smiles and heard some laughter and were able to beautify Camp. I think some of us adults forget how much fun the rain can be. :-) Camp Okoboji s cooks made us a delicious warm meal, and we also celebrated our Camp Director Doug Kading s birthday. A BIG THANK YOU to all who came and volunteered today and to Dr. Ralph Von Qualen for his help with this wonderful project. We will still have some planting of flowers to be done between Tuesday and Saturday of next week, so if you want to come to Camp and do some gardening, just let us know when you are able to help.
