LWML MISSION NOTES: For JUNE we are collecting monetary donations and gift cards from Wal-Mart, Hy-Vee, Fareway, and Menards for Mission Central in Mapleton, Iowa. They will use the cards to purchase inventory items and perishable items that are needed. If you prefer to donate money toward gift cards, please put your donation in an envelope marked Mission Central and leave it in the church office. Previously, we collected in December but that month usually puts a strain on the budget, so we are trying to do it a different time of year. Mission Central provides support for worldwide missionary work of the LCMS and also asks for your prayers for the missionaries in the field. Please leave your donations in the church office. 3 Baptized into the Christian faith in a private service yesterday was KINSLEY RENAE McCULLOUGH, the daughter of Jacob and Kendra (Peterson) McCullough. Kinsley was born on March 14, 2018 at Iowa Specialty Hospital, Clarion, Iowa. Serving as sponsors were Tanya and Travis Gould. Serving as witnesses were Cassandra Cassie and Clint Hartmann. May our gracious Lord grant Kinsley a long life filled with His richest blessings. This morning s Fellowship Coffee will be sponsored by Judy Harklau, Mary Ann Johnson, Lodyce Buhr and Delores Telford with proceeds going toward LWML Projects. Please join us in the Fellowship Hall following the worship service. CD Ministry Help Needed: Loretta Grebner has been doing a wonderful job with the CD Ministry, but is looking to step down. Please consider stepping up! Background information: Zion records all of the services, the services are then transferred to a CD (done by the sound people), and then the CDs are duplicated (an easy task with the machine we have). The CDs are then taken to a list of people from Zion who have difficulty getting to the services. The current list is 3 people, but it could grow or shrink. We are looking for someone who would be willing to do this task on a weekly basis (whenever it works into your schedule). If you would consider it, please contact the church office at or zion@goldfieldaccess.net. Pastor and Barb Raether will be celebrating their 50 th Wedding Anniversary on June 29. Pastor Raether has been serving Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at Farnhamville while still living in Humboldt. The members of Holy Trinity will hold a Potluck Dinner for Pastor and Barb following their 9:30 a.m. Worship Service on June 24, the dinner will begin at 11:00 a.m. You are invited to join them for this celebration. 4 NATIVITY SCENE: As you know our church outdoor nativity scene is beyond repair. We, the Evangelism Board have begun a quest to purchase a new one that we can use this upcoming Christmas season. We thought if we started with a few pieces that we would be able to add more pieces as money allows. So far, a little over $1,400 has been donated to the project. The set we are looking at is through Bronners Christmas Store in Frankenmuth, Michigan. It is a life-size set and made of fiberglass. They offer churches 15 percent off for all purchases. The cost for the first 3 pieces are as follows: Baby Jesus: $895 Joseph: $1,595 Mary: $1,445 Shipping: $ (Or if someone is willing they could pick them up) We have a member of the congregation willing to make the wooden stable. In order for us to have a nativity scene this year, we hope you can help us with some funds. We are trying to raise about $4,000 this year. We will continue to encourage memorial donations and use money from our Sunday coffee this summer. Thank you for your consideration! The Evangelism Board If you are curious about the mission trip of Sara Meierding (formerly Torkelson) that the VBS used as a mission project, Sara has a blog. You can view her updates at All Students attending a Christian college are eligible for the Zion Lutheran Church Scholarship - the priority will be given to students attending an LC- MS university, other Lutheran college or university, and then a Christian college or University. Priority will be given to those students entering the field of Christian Education and if there are no applicants from that field then students in other areas will be eligible for the Scholarship. The scholarship will be awarded to a college student from Zion who will be attending college for the school year. Application forms are available in the church office. CARPET and PAINT PROJECT: (Donations can be marked Carpet Project ) New carpet will be installed in the fellowship hall and down the hallway to the fellowship hall, as well as a layer of flooring (vinyl) along the north wall (by the kitchen) to avoid some of the staining from the kitchen. If you are able, we are asking for donations for the project. If possible, we d like to have the carpet installed this summer. At the recent voters meeting the idea for painting the fellowship hall and hallway was suggested and approved. Money for the project can be given in the offering marked Carpet Project,' or with the pink Growing in Christ envelopes found in the back of the church (for safety still mark it Carpet Project ). 5 Would you like a copy of the Lutheran Confessions? The Wednesday Morning Ladies Bible Study has been working through the Book of Concord for the past month, and some are interested in purchasing their own copies of the Readers Edition of the Book of Concord. If these books are bought in bulk, they are sold at a discount. The more books bought, the larger the discount. If you would like to purchase one as well, there is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board. The opening worship service of the Iowa District West Convention is the best way to start a convention. We begin with what is most important that being Christ. We open our convention at Christ s altar, pulpit and font. Only then can we move to the business of the Church. Praise God for all assisting with worship including our preacher, the Rev. Herbert Mueller, 1 st VP of the LCMS. Please join us for the opening worship service at Immanuel Lutheran Church ( th Street) in Spirit Lake next Sunday, June 24 beginning at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend! Rev. Dr. Steven D. Turner, President Iowa District West North-Central Aftercare is a support team for persons recently released from prison, to assist their transition back into society. One area where support is vital is to find safe housing for an individual upon release. Relay for Life will be Friday, June 29: Dedicate a Luminaria and light the way around the Relay for Life track in tribute for loved ones whose life has been touched by cancer.

6 It s getting to be that time again! Cub Week at Camp Okoboji will be July for students that have completed grades 3 rd -6 th. A Story of Compassion presented by Pastor Jerry Raether. Joseph Kunert would like to let you know what God is doing in his life this summer and how you can play an important role. He has joined the summer staff at Twin Lakes Bible Camp. He is excited to see God work in amazing ways in his life and in the lives of the campers. You can help Joseph in two ways. The first is to pray for God to use him for His glory and pray for the kids. The second is financially. The Camp Board will allow paid staff members to independently raise missionary support to supplement their wages. Because the Board has established a maximum pay for their staff and will exercise control over any and all gifts, your contributions are fully tax deductible. Any gifts that exceed the maximum pay will go to the general operations or as designated by the Board. Please make checks to Twin Lakes Bible Camp and be sure to note Missionary Support Joseph Kunert in the memo section. You may leave checks in the church office. Holly Stockdale and Destiny Saathoff are the new head coaches of the Humboldt Swim Team. This year they came up with an idea to unify the team and bring them to a more current state. To become more professional their goal is to have all swimmers eleven and older purchase a team swimsuit. Also, the lane lines are over ten years old and are breaking so it is necessary to purchase new ones. The swim team does not have the funding so a sponsorship program called Swim Boosters has been created. Swim Boosters will include companies, families, and individuals who would like to sponsor the Humboldt Swim Team. Boosters are asked to donate the amount of money that they feel is suitable. Companies, families or individuals who choose to become a booster will be advertised on a poster at their home swim meets; if they choose. Sponsorships will be renewed annually.
