There is a great need for mothers in our area to get the necessary support and assistance to transform their lives and the lives of their children. Items needed include: bowl cleaner, bleach, Clorox wipes, paper towels, Bounce sheets, Kleenex, toilet paper (septic safe), laundry soap (not high efficiency), and stain remover. Carol Christiansen The Sunday School Children s Christmas Service, Silent Night, Holy Night will be this evening, December 16 at 6:30 p.m. Come celebrate the Christmas Story with us! Please have children arrive at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Sunday School Parents: A Lutheran Family Service blue offering bag should be returned tonight for the Children s Christmas Service. Please tie the bags loosely and not in a knot so they can be reused next year. Those who have ordered Poinsettias and would like to take them home may pick them up following the Christmas Day Service on Tuesday, December 25. No names were attached, so first come first choice. 4 The LYC (9 th -12 th grade) will be hosting the Midweek Advent Supper this Wednesday, December 19 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The menu will consist of Turkey Noodle Soup, veggies, desserts, and refreshments. Proceeds will go toward the LYC activities. Midweek Advent Services will continue this Wednesday, December 19 at 6:30 p.m. This Advent season our midweek services are looking to the Scripture readings which have inspired some of our Advent hymns. Keagan Burmeister has recently started a Yarn Club at UNI that is looking for yarn donations! Yarn Club will be using this donated yarn to teach students how to crochet, knit, loom, etc. and at least one item created by each student will be donated to a nonprofit organization. If interested, please contact Keagan at burmeisk@uni.edu or JR. LYC Scrip Program: The Jr. LYC has been doing a fundraiser using Scrip cards. They are always for sale in the church office, but we are also selling them after church on the first and third Sunday of the month. By buying groceries or gas, or giving them as gifts support the Jr. LYC. These also make great Christmas Gifts! Consider buying some cards as Christmas gifts or, some people even use the card for budgeting and for known monthly expenses. Proceeds go toward funding the adventures of the group. The following cards allow Jr. LYC to make a reasonable profit. 1- Fareway 3 percent back 2- Hy-Vee 5 percent back 2- Casey s 3 percent back 3- Millers Landing 10 percent back 4- Backseat Diner 10 percent back 5- Pasquales 10 percent back Zion is responsible for filling nine Christmas Basket/Boxes for needy families in Humboldt County. If you wish to support this project, please place your gift in an envelope marked Christmas Baskets/Boxes with your envelope number and put in the offering plate or leave it in the church office. Christmas Services: Join us as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Christmas Eve Service will be at 6:00 p.m. and the Christmas Eve Candlelight Service with Communion will be at 11:00 p.m. The Christmas Day Service with Communion will be at 9:30 a.m.

5 You are invited to join us for Jesus Birthday Cake following the Christmas Day Worship Service on December 25 in the Fellowship Hall. Join us for a time of fellowship as we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. NATIVITY SCENE: The Nativity Scene was dedicated during the Advent service on November 28. It is now displayed on the south side of the church. Thank you to all who have given through donations and memorials to this project making it possible to order Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, and an angel. Memorial money has been given in memory of Martha Anderson (mother of Greg Anderson), Mary Ford (mother of Russ Naeve), Al Hippen, Pat Johnson, Ray Kunert, Eugene Bud Larsen (brother of Darlene Kunert), Margaret Lucas (grandmother of Lincoln Mason), Judy Peters (sister of Steve Peters), Vernon Schulze, and Judy Tannor (niece of Doris Kuehnast). The following have been purchased by families as memorials: A kneeling lamb in memory of Harold and Marj Kropf (parents of Marian Anderson and Don Kropf), a shepherd in memory of Mike Williams (son of Virgil and Marian Williams), a standing ram in memory of Marvin Anderson (father of Paul Anderson), a wiseman in memory of Kay Kollmorgen, and a kneeling donkey in memory of Dean Telford. Paul Davis made the star and Daryl Kuehnast made the stable. We will add more figures to the set as funds become available. Please continue to help with this project when possible with memorials and donations. We will leave the bucket set out for donations. Any spare change you have will continue to be appreciated. The Humboldt High School Music Department is thrilled to present their annual Christmas Concert on Monday, December 17, at 7:00 p.m. in the R. Wesley Carlson Auditorium. The concert features the High School Concert Band, Women s Chorus and Concert Chorale. Don t miss the opportunity to hear your favorite holiday music and support your favorite high school musicians. Admission is only $3 for adults, and $2 for students. See you there! CANS for CAMP OKOBOJI Please take all pop cans and bottles and put them in the container located outside on the east side of the Sunday school wing of the church building. Please completely empty all bottles and cans and please do not put garbage in them. Thank you. Upper Des Moines Opportunity (UDMO) would like different churches to collect/donate different items each month to ensure a good mix of products to distribute. Any donation is accepted but would like the focus to be on the designated items for the month when possible. For December Zion is asked to collect toilet paper. Please take them to the Humboldt County Food Pantry, th St., Humboldt on Mondays 9 a.m.-12 p.m., or Thursdays 1-4 p.m. DON T DELAY. DONATE TODAY. Although the deadline for donating to the Iowa Lutheran School Tuition Organization is December 31, 2018, last year tax credits were gone by the middle of December. Please consider donating today to help fund tuition assistance to Lutheran students in our Iowa Lutheran schools. How much Iowa tax do you pay each year?
