2 Pastor Claire Cassell Change and Transformation Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2 I once saw a poster up on an office wall that had a picture of a cartoon figure running from a lightning bolt that was striking his backside. The caption read, We change, not when we see the light, but when we feel the heat. Isn t that true for most of us? We get comfortable in our routines and patterns and don t want to move out of them, even if they re not healthy or helpful to us. Change can be challenging. Transformation is change on a deeper level. It is change from the inside out. Transformation is the level of change that Christ invites us to make in our faith journey, both individually and together. It is often difficult to make changes and experience transformation on our own. It is easier to continue to be and do what we ve always been and done. Sometimes it takes a lightning bolt of circumstances that are out of our control to move us into change and transformation. There is another choice. We can consciously and intentionally decide to move into positive change and do things that encourage transformation. We can take a class, take on a new spiritual practice, do something new that we haven t done before, to name a few things. 2

In case you re wondering what a Life Coach is, here s a simple definition: A life coach helps others to accomplish their life goals by identifying limiting patterns that are holding them back,

3 Pastor Claire Cassell Last week, I took a training to become a Certified Life Coach. This is something I ve been wanting to do for a long time. Sara Moening, one of our Assistant s to the Bishop, is a Life Coach, and she has encouraged pastors to consider receiving this training. In case you re wondering what a Life Coach is, here s a simple definition: A life coach helps others to accomplish their life goals by identifying limiting patterns that are holding them back, clarifying goals and action steps and building skills and resources so that positive change and transformation can happen. I am excited to be able to use my new training in my ministry. I would like to offer you all a coaching session. If there is a goal that you would like some help with, please give me a call and we can set up a time to meet or talk over the phone. Feel free to ask any questions about this and I will be happy to share more about it. I hope you are enjoying the trees budding and flowers blooming this spring as we watch the earth change and transform before our eyes! With you on the journey, 3

4 St. Andrew News Outreach Ministry The Outreach Ministry of St. Andrew will be teaming up with Lutheran Church of Hope (Broomfield) to Feed the Homeless in downtown Denver on Saturday May 5, 8 am - 11 am. Will you join us? If so, or to learn more, contact Mari Hackbarth , mhackbarth@hotmail. Here are the details: Feed the Homeless Ministry Lutheran Church of Hope (LCH) 1305 West 10th Avenue Broomfield, CO office@lchope.org For over 30 years, Lutheran Church of Hope has participated in the Feed the Homeless (FTH) ministry at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in downtown Denver LCH provides food to the downtown homeless on the first and third Saturdays of the month September through May. On the scheduled Saturday, volunteers make sandwiches, coffee, prepare a hot or cold beverage, package cookies & bananas. We get everything packed up in bins in time to leave LCH by 9:30 for the drive to Holy Ghost Catholic Church downtown (2029 Larimer St., Denver, CO 80205). We unload and set up food in time to start serving promptly at 10 a.m. Food distribution is generally complete by 10:30 a.m., with return to LCH by 11 a.m. After cleaning thermoses and putting bins away, you go on to your day by around 11:30 a.m., knowing that you can feel great about serving those in need. Thank you for all you do for St. Andrew, we couldn t do this without you! King Soopers Card Reminder This is just a little reminder to use your King Soopers reloadable gift cards. St. Andrew receives 5% of what goes onto the cards when the cards are loaded, and it can add up quickly! Arvada Food Bank Thanks to your generosity and support on April 9th St. Andrew Lutheran Church donated 21 pounds of items to the Arvada Food Bank. Secrest Pen Pal Project Secrest Pen Pals Thank you so much for your participation and support of the Secrest Pen Pal project. It was a huge success and the staff at Secrest are extremely grateful and excited about the outcome. Stay tuned for more about the impact this had on the second-grade students. 7
