LWML MISSION NOTES: For NOVEMBER we are collecting items for the Lutheran Family Service MomTalk Program in Fort Dodge. MomTalk is a group that meets for guidance and to discuss issues for new moms in a Christian setting. Items needed are: Toothpaste, Toothbrushes, Shampoo, Conditioner, Antiperspirant, Laundry detergent, Children s training underwear, Socks for all ages, Quilts for kids and adults, Gift Cards for Christmas boxes. 3 It is time once again to decorate the church for Christmas! The Evangelism Board will be decorating the Sanctuary this Tuesday, November 27 at 6:00 p.m. Please plan to come and help and enjoy the fellowship of decorating our church. Your help will be greatly appreciated. The Nativity Scene will be dedicated during the first Advent service on November 28. Midweek Advent Services will begin this Wednesday, November 28 at 6:30 p.m. This Advent season our midweek services will look to the Scripture readings which have inspired some of our Advent hymns. We will be serving the Advent suppers prior to each Midweek Advent service beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Endowment Fund will be serving the first Advent meal. The menu will be pork loin, au gratin potatoes, green beans, pumpkin bars, lemonade and coffee. Proceeds will go to the Endowment Fund. Please join us for a wonderful meal and worship. Confirmands & Parents: Remember during the Advent Season (beginning November 28) classes will begin following the Advent service. The worship service is at 6:30 p.m. and is considered to be an extension of the class period! The 30 th Annual Gemütlichkeit Luncheon will be held December 1 at Zion Lutheran Church. We will be serving from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and all tickets are pre-sold. Come enjoy a homemade German dinner of brats & sauerkraut, pork loin, potato soup, hot German potato salad, chunky applesauce, deviled eggs and black forest torte! Homemade relishes, bread and cookies all served, as well! Join us for a German tradition! Gemütlichkeit tickets may be purchased at the Zion church office or from Marilyn Kuehnast, Doris Gillespie, Renae Dreyer and Lori Stein. Prices are $10 for adults, $5 for children under 10, and preschoolers are free. Please make checks to Zion LWML. Carry Out and/or Drive Up is available. Remember Congregational elections will be held before and after the Saturday worship service and the 10:00 a.m. Sunday worship service, December 1 & 2. The ballot has been published in the December newsletter and one has been placed on the bulletin board in the Narthex. You may do an absentee ballot in the church office the week before. Please join us December 8 from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at Dan and Dawn Parle s, 2518 Lone Tree Road, Humboldt, for a live nativity with animals, singing of Christmas carols and the reading of The Christmas Story. Hot chocolate and cookies will be served. All ages welcome! Zion is responsible for filling nine Christmas Basket/Boxes for needy families in Humboldt County. If you wish to support this project, please place your gift in an envelope marked Christmas Baskets/Boxes with your envelope number and put in the offering plate or leave it in the church office.

4 If anyone has plastic containers we can use for the Gemütlichkeit Luncheon please leave them in Zion s kitchen. Thank you. NATIVITY SCENE: Thank you to all who have given through donations and memorials to this project making it possible to order Mary, Joseph, the baby Jesus, and an angel through Bronners Christmas Store in Frankenmuth, Michigan. Memorial money has been given in memory of Mary Ford (mother of Russ Naeve), Al Hippen, Pat Johnson, Ray Kunert, Eugene Bud Larsen (brother of Darlene Kunert), Margaret Lucas (grandmother of Lincoln Mason), Judy Peters (sister of Steve Peters), Vernon Schulze, Judy Tannor (niece of Doris Kuehnast), and Dean Telford. The following have been purchased by families as memorials: A kneeling lamb in memory of Harold and Marj Kropf (parents of Marian Anderson and Don Kropf), a shepherd in memory of Mike Williams (son of Virgil and Marian Williams), a standing ram in memory of Marvin Anderson (father of Paul Anderson), and a wiseman in memory of Kay Kollmorgen. Paul Davis has made a star and Daryl Kuehnast has made a wooden stable. We will add more figures to the set as funds become available. Please continue to help with this project when possible with memorials and donations. We will leave the bucket set out for donations. Any spare change you have will continue to be appreciated. Thanks for your support. The Evangelism Board CARPET and PAINT PROJECT: Thank you to all who gave donations and memorials to this project. New carpet has been installed in the fellowship hall and down the hallway to the fellowship hall, as well as a layer of flooring (vinyl) along the north wall (by the kitchen). Memorial money has been given in memory of Marvin Anderson (father of Paul Anderson), Al Hippen, Diane Jensen, Kay Kollmorgen; Ray Kunert, Harold Schnell (brother of Arlene Moritz), Jolene Wilhelm (mother of Dave Wilhelm and sister-in-law of Donna M. Day), and Mike Williams (son of Virgil and Marian Williams). You may continue to donate to this project. Money for the project can be given in the offering marked Carpet Project,' or with the pink Growing in Christ envelopes found in the back of the church (for safety still mark it Carpet Project ). 5 JR. LYC Scrip Program: Jr. LYC has been doing a fundraiser using Scrip cards. They are always for sale in the church office, but also we are selling them after church on the first and third Sunday of the month. By buying groceries or gas, or giving them as gifts support the Jr. LYC. These also make great Christmas Gifts. Consider buying some cards as Christmas gifts or, some people even use the card for budgeting and for known monthly expenses. Proceeds go toward funding the adventures of the group. For ideas, flip through the pages to see how others have done theirs. Include your family members especially all that are Zion members, include your family interests. Make it playful and fun. If you already have a page update it if you wish at any time. The Fall Appeal for the Humboldt County Food Pantry sponsored by the Humboldt County Ministerial Association is November 11 through 25. Join us for traditional Norwegian treats and other baked goods, sandwiches, coffee, and lemonade. (Free will donation for Lunch). Then purchase an assortment of baked goods to take home! Hosted by the Women of St. Olaf. You are invited to attend a Christmas Open House at the Lutheran Family Service Ministry Center, th Ave. N., Fort Dodge on Sunday, December 2 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Come and share some Christmas cheer while touring various nativity sets displayed throughout. Hope to see you there! Humboldt County Cancer Support Group will meet Monday, December 3 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Saviour s Lutheran Church Library. The group will be meeting on the first Monday of each month. Same time and same place. Everyone welcome, survivors, caregivers, family, friends and anyone who has a passion to help others in need! The mission is to help each other, visit about our experience and know you are not alone. If you have questions, please call Craig Christensen, LuAnn Burgers or Marva Anderson.
