4 Ladies Auxiliary Although we won t be meeting as a group during the months of June, July, and August, the ladies will be selling sno-cones, sodas, and bottled water at the 4 th of July parade in front of Mikulski Hall. Marie Cabigon, Vice President will be heading the team for this event. Please Maria at maria.cabigon@sbcglobal.net if you are willing to help. Your officers will be meeting in early summer to develop an agenda for the year. We will discuss what charitable work projects will be presented to the general membership at our first meeting in September for a vote. We will also be brainstorming ideas for social events. If you wish to have your voice heard, we need your input. Let all of us be part of a rewarding year by sending your ideas and suggestions to me (pgm921@gmail.com) or to our Secretary, Olga Munoz (olgacmunozmunoz@gmail.com) by June 30 th. Have a safe and blessed summer! Pat Mantor, President President; DEPUTY'S DESK: Well another fraternal year us upon us. We have grown as a council yet we still have potential to become the premier Catholic organization in the parish. Are you willing to fulfill the dream of VEN FR MICHAEL H MCGIVNEY? First we must elect a new slate of officers. There have been signup sheets to invest your name as a candidate for all of our elective positions. Please sign up by this coming meeting night so that the election will be completed. Our budget must also be voted on so that the council can continue charity, unity and fraternity obligations which we taken upon ourselves as KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS. Several items need to have a head count. Please come to the meeting with a commitment for instillation dinner so that we can have enough food for your family. Also I need a head count for the Mission Ball game on the 14th. Great recruiting tool to reach parish! Special Olympics is a Supreme Council dedicated charity. As such our council needs to put manpower into this endeavor. Can we count on you this next year. Father McGivney's canonization process needs your prayers and membership in the Guild would help ROME more receptive to our drive for his sainthood. Lastly, our freedom of religion is still threaten by pseudo-catholics and flaming liberals. Your support thru FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM will sent a message loud and clear. The web site is FORTNIGHT4FREEDOM.ORG please visit and pray and respond so that our voices can be heard through the clanging of the culture of Death apostles. VIVAT JESUS JIM DIVINE MERCY MOMENT: St. Faustina shares a few wise words on Prayer - A soul arms itself by prayer for all kinds of combat. In whatever state the soul may be, it ought to pray. A soul which is pure and beautiful must pray, or else it will lose its beauty; a soul which is striving after this purity must pray, or else it will never attain it; a soul which is newly converted must pray, or else it will fall again; a sinful soul, plunged in sins, must pray so that is might rise again. There is no soul which is not bound to pray, for every single grace comes to the soul through prayer. (Diary 146)
5 Issues And Action (United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) Americans share many blessings and strengths, including a tradition of religious freedom and political participation. However, as a people, we face serious challenges that are clearly political and also profoundly moral in nature. We are a nation founded on "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," but the right to life itself is not fully protected, especially for unborn children, the most vulnerable members of the American family. We are called to be peacemakers in a nation at war. We are a country pledged to pursue "liberty and justice for all," but we are too often divided across lines of race, ethnicity, and economic inequality. We are a nation of immigrants, struggling to address the challenges of many new immigrants in our midst. We are a society built on the strength of our families, called to defend marriage and offer moral and economic supports for family life. We are a powerful nation in a violent world, confronting terror and trying to build a safer, more just, more peaceful world. We are an affluent society where too many live in poverty and lack health care and other necessities of life. We are part of a global community facing urgent threats to the environment that must sustain us. These challenges are at the heart of public life and at the center of the pursuit of the common good. As Catholics, we are part of a community with a rich heritage that helps us consider the challenges in public life and contribute to greater justice and peace for all people. Part of that rich heritage on faithful citizenship is the teaching of Vatican Council II's Declaration on Religious Liberty (Dignitatis Humanae). It says that "society itself may enjoy the benefits of justice and peace, which result from [people's] faithfulness to God and his holy will" (no. 6). The work for justice requires that the mind and the heart of Catholics be educated and formed to know and practice the whole faith. In this section of USCCB website, you will find information and resources that highlight the role of the Church in the formation of conscience, and the corresponding moral responsibility of each Catholic to hear, receive, and act upon the Church's teaching in the lifelong task of forming his or her own conscience. With this foundation, Catholics are better able to evaluate policy positions, party platforms, and candidates' promises and actions in light of the Gospel and the moral and social teaching of the Church in order to help build a better world. ---excerpted from "Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship:A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops." Attention Council Brother Knights All Knights please wear your Knight of Columbus name tag to all Church or Knights activities. There have been way too many Knights not wearing their name tags during Mass or other activities. Our name tags are a great recruiting tool. Membership Activities Knights Choir The Knights Choir will sing on Sunday June 21, 2015 at Good Shepherd Church at the 8AM Mass. Rehearsal is at 7:15AM. We are looking forward for more Knights to join us. Interested, Please contact Larry Gladu, PGK ST DEGREE Exemplification Admissions committee will meet at 7:30 PM after the Officers Meeting on June 8,. Our Next 1 st Degree is scheduled for Thursday June 11, 2015
6 Knights Mass and Friendship Sunday Our Knights Mass at Good Shepherd and will be on the third Sunday June 21, 2015 at 8:00 AM, After Mass coffee, orange juice and doughnuts will be served by the council. We need council officers and Brother Knights to support these events to help with recruiting new members. Knights Sunday, supported by our council, is scheduled for the fourth (4 th ) Sunday of every month at Immaculate Conception Church after the 9:45 A.M. Knight s Mass. After Mass coffee, orange juice and doughnuts will be served. We need council 8officers and Brother Knights to support these events to help with recruiting new members. Contact David Dumas , Gerald Fey , or Chris Tusko to volunteer to help with the recruiting of new members KOC State Golf Tournament The 2015 tournament will be in Glen Rose, Texas and will follow the same format as previous years. Dates are August 28, 29 and 30th. Cost is $70 for scramble on Friday and $130 for the next two days. Play all three days and cost is $165. Some of the golf cost may be subsidized by the council. Cutoff date is 1 July. Contact Jack Sullivan at Insurance Agent As a Knights of Columbus field agent, I hear about group life insurance every week. If you have it, it s certainly not a bad thing, but it can be a misleading security blanket. Most times, the amount offered is far from what you need, and the only way to determine what you need is with a comprehensive needs analysis. Your group coverage is not based on any analysis. Instead, they apply a formula: you make X amount in salary and the group life is either a flat amount ($15,000 seems popular) or a multiple of your salary (somewhere between 1.5 and 2.5 is common). Either way, it has nothing to do with the number of children you have, the mortgage balance you carry, or the amount of money your wife would need if you die. It s a completely random number. It can also disappear at any time. All of us know people friends, family members, neighbors who have lost their jobs. When the job is lost, so is the group life insurance coverage. If the company experiences difficulty and budgets need to be cut, group life can be reduced or eliminated. And that decision could be made at the worst possible time for you. Most group life insurance coverage reduces or disappears when you retire. Many times it can be converted, but at a very expensive premium (remember, you re no kid anymore when you retire, and premiums do rise as you get older). Just because you turn 65 doesn t mean you no longer need life insurance or need less coverage. Actually, the opposite is true. Recently this year, some of our products have been extended to those in between the ages of Do you still own just group life insurance? It must be supplemented with a personally owned portfolio. I can tell you exactly how to blend your group benefit with your K of C life insurance so things can be in your control. Don t let the feeling of security that group life provides distract you from the real issue: taking control of your family s financial future!
