2 Grand Knights Report Dear Brother Knights and Families Our 2011 journey has just begun. One month down, with only five left in our fraternal year. We are coming together nicely as a council. Our strength is in a good core group of Knights who are willing to pitch in and do what needs to be done. We have wisdom, a sense of family, pride in our council, and the support of our Ladies. Our weakness is our recruiting and insurance numbers are down and we need to do something about it. If we don t ask those men around us if anyone has ever talked to them about being a Knight, we may be missing out on a recruiting opportunity and that Catholic gentleman next to you may be wondering Am I not good enough to be a Knight?. When in doubt, ask. If you are not an insurance member, for whatever reason, take the time to talk to our insurance agent. You may be surprised to find that he has products that are just what your family needs. We do not have to have huge increases in these areas to be a success. There are so many opportunities for us to grow together in the council. I know we have several brothers who are still First and Second Degree Knights and are ready to move forward in their journey of Knighthood. If you sponsored someone into our Council, contact your brother to encourage him to move onto their next degree level. If you are that brother who is ready to move on, contact your sponsor, myself or any Officer or Director in the Council and we will make a coordinated effort to get you to the next major degree. Another opportunity is stepping into a leadership role. If you are interested in stepping up, please talk to me. I will gladly work with you or partner you with another Knight in an area of interest for you. Our Council is hosting the Chapter meeting in February. I will be asking for help to make sure things go smoothly. Any Knight with a current travel card can come to the meeting. This would be a perfect time to come and see our Chapter in action. If you have interest in assisting with this meeting, again contact me or any Officer or Director. Our Fish Friday fund raiser is scheduled for each Friday in lent. Plans are in motion and underway to make this a success. Again, we will need help to assist with set-up, serving, and clean-up. It will be great to see each and every one of you and your families to come and eat some fish and support our Council. By the time you read this, we will have had a grand time at our Mardi Gras Family Night on January 28 th. Also, our Ladies are doing their Progressive Dinner where we guys are invited on Tuesday, February 1 st. With two great opportunities for FREE meals, guys we should not ever complain of being hungry. There will be a bartenders training class soon. Date and time is to be announced. Knights and their Ladies are welcome. Our greatest threat within our Council is ourselves. We need to support each other. Build each other up. Be willing to reach out and give to our Brother Knights even if it s just an ear to listen or a word of encouragement or a prayer. Put your hand out and make the offer to lift up. I would like to thank everyone for your continued hard work and dedication in our council activities. Every member s assistance and participation makes a difference. Thank you! 3 Mother Teresa Assembly No From the corner of the Faithful Navigator During the January Assembly Meeting, we met those Sir Knights that received the honor of the 4 th Degree at the November 20, 2010 Exemplification. Your Assembly made these Sir Knights welcome to our ranks. Last night, at the San Antonio Archdiocese Chapter Meeting held in the St. John Neumann Family Center, Council 9291, several of these newly Exemplified Sir Knights were in attendance. I was able to talk to about 5 of them, one on one, and they told me they felt most welcome at the Assembly Meeting and were anxious to get involved in our Assembly activities. Your Assembly Officers and Project Chairmen will be seeking assistance in performing their duties. Some of them have no backup for the times when they are unable to be present at an event. During their recruitment of Sir Knights to assist them in their duties, they will be looking to those that recently joined the 4 th Degree, along with us Old Timers. By using the talents of our Younger Members, working alongside us Old Timers, will allow them to get a taste of what keeps your Assembly running on a daily basis. While assisting the Officers and Project Leaders, you can participate in the different positions and activities to learn where your talents are needed. At the same time, you will have a good time and experience the Quality Fraternal activities of the Assembly with your Fellow Sir Knights. At the January Chapter Meeting held at the St. John Neumann Family Center, Council 9291, the Worthy Master of the 2 nd District of Texas, SK Greg Tatum announced that there is an Exemplification scheduled for Saturday, March 19th to be at St Anthony Claret Parish, at the St Anthony Claret Council Hall, on 6150 Roft Road, SATX The Host Assembly will be Our Lady of Guadalupe Assembly S.K. Al Mares is the F. Navigator of Assembly The Master indicated that he would like to hold 3 or 4 Exemplifications per Fraternal Year. The Master has announced The 'Knights of Columbus Night' at the Spurs Arena will be Saturday, January 29, The Monsignor Anthony F. Drozd Assembly 2102 Color Guard, led by Color Corps Commander, Sir Knight Rene Martinez, will present the colors at 7:00 P.M. As of Feb. 01, 2011, all unpaid dues and chalice fees are in arrears. The annual Dues and Chalice fee for Regular Members is $25.00 and for those that are Horary Life Members, it is $5.00. You may mail a check payable to the order of Mother Teresa Assembly 2523 to: Knights of Columbus, Mother Teresa Assembly 2523, 509 Schertz Parkway, Schertz, TX Your Assembly will be having an Officer s Election at the May Meeting. In the meantime, we need to form a Nominating Committee to make recommendations of those Sir Knights they have spoken with and that will allow their name to be put into nomination. I would like to see at least two Sir Knights have their names put into nomination for each of the Officer s positions to be voted on. 4 Ladies Auxiliary The KC Ladies Auxiliary meets on Tuesday, February 1st in the KC Hall. We are having a Progressive Dinner and our Knights are invited to join us. The main course is provided by the KC Ladies Auxiliary. Ladies, be sure to sign up to bring an appetizer, side dish or dessert. Our guest speaker will be from the public library to talk about all the wonderful services available to us. Coming up in March we will have nominations for next year's officers. Ladies, if you are interested in stepping up into a leadership role, please talk to one of the current officers and we'll gladly assist you. Also, in February is another Casino bus trip. See Therese Quinn if you are interested in participating. We look forward to seeing everyone on February 1 st at the Progressive Dinner. 5 Council Activity William Bailey, PGK, Director, Motion for Council Meeting Time Change At the January Council Business meeting the question was raised about changing the time that the Council meets. It was brought up that since the Columbus Club no longer meets just before the Council Business meeting could that time be changed. The question was tabled until the February meeting so that we could inform the members of this important question and allow them to attend the meeting so their ideas on this matter could be heard. Council Shirts Brother Roy Stuart will take orders for council shirts at every council meeting. The shirts cost $20.00 if it s a small, medium or large size. If you need a 1X its $21.00, 2X is $22.00, 3X is $23.00, 4X is $24.00, and a 5X is $ The council will pay $10.00 of the cost of the first shirt that is ordered. The first shirt will be light blue short sleeves and any additional shirts can be any of several different colors. You also have a choice of long sleeve shirts for your second choice. Price of the shirts is needed at the time of order. Brother Stuart still has shirts for the Knights listed below and would appreciate it you go to a meeting or contact him to pick up your shirt. If you are unable to pick up your shirts at the Business meeting please contact Roy Stuart, , to make arrangements to pick them up. Council 6358 College Scholarship Committee The Applications are available in the Council Hall Office, 509 Schertz Pkwy., Schertz, Texas, Applications are due back to the committee by Monday, February 1, The committee will review and judge the applications on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 10:00PM. Notification of the winners will be on March 1, Columbus Club Corner LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD MEN AND WOMEN TO TRAIN AS BARTENDERS. Due to the increase in multiple day weekends scheduling Friday and Saturday and hopefully Sunday now that bingo has moved additional teams are needed to work these situations. Also we hope to increase the rotational scheduling of the current teams. To assist with this the hall management, Columbus Club and Lino "Road Kill" Trevino have partnered to sponsor the following training event. A TABC Training Course will be offered free of charge to all members and their spouses. After the training you will be assigned to a team to support our reservation schedule. TABC Training schedule is as follows: Training date: 11 February 2010 Location: KC Hall 5:00 pm Meal 6:00 pm TABC Training lasting approximately three to three and half hours. An important message to all current bar staff. You must recertify every two years. This means all current Bar Staff and due to recertifying. Come and join us and be certified or be recertified. The food will be good and the TABC training will be informative at the same time entertaining. All this is free of charge to members and their spouses. Come join us. For more

We need Brother Knights to support this event to help with recruiting new member. Contact Gerald Fey, , Chris Tusko and Mike Burton to volunteer to help with the recruiting of new members. Knights Sunday Knights Sunday, supported by our council, is scheduled for the fourth (4 th ) Sunday of every month at Immaculate Conception Church after the 9:30AM Knights Mass. Coffee, orange juice and doughnuts will be served by the council. We need Brother Knights to support this event to help with recruiting new members. Council 1 st Degree Team The Council 1 st Degree Team is in desperate need for additional manpower to help the Team put on 1 st Degree Exemplifications.
