2 Grand Knights Report Dear Brother Knights and Families Brothers, 2014 is fast coming to an end. A lot of changes are taking place within our council. As you know everyone in our council has been assigned an Event Team. This was done because neither I, nor anyone else in the council, know all 243 of you. We don't know your time, talents, health, individual situations, etc. ONLY YOU CAN DECIDE WHAT YOUR CAPITABLITIES ARE AND WHAT YOU CARE TO SHARE WITH YOUR BROTHERS. Please be kind to the Team Leads as they are in the process of contacting everyone on their list, updating your information and asking for your help. I only ask you give them your kindly consideration. Please don't feel bad if you have to say NO; all of us have experience times were we had to say no, did not have the time for anything else at that time. Please let us know if there is anything we can do for you or your family to ease your Burden. As 2014 comes to end, let us Celebrate Faith, Family and Fraternity. Faith, Family and Fraternity make up the foundation upon which the Knights of Columbus stands. Our members belong to many races and cultures. As in any large group, our diversity is our strength and an asset in searching for ways to make every day better. One of the primary goals of the Knights of Columbus is helping the Catholic Church remain vigorous and undiminished. The Knights and their families work with the pastor and the Church community where ever needed. Through the involvement of local councils, the Knights of Columbus provide moral and financial support to individual seminarians and postulates. The family is paramount to the Knights of Columbus. Our programs and activities allow families to work and play together to benefit the Church, community and one another. Our commitment to family also includes protecting unborn children. Each year our council assists in pro-life activities and tries to raise public awareness to the countless lives of unborn children ended each year through abortion. Along with the camaraderie that comes with being part of a fraternal organization, our members enjoy working together to assist needy people in our community. Our council remains dedicated to fostering the bond between all brother Knights and their families. Our council does this by offering a wide variety social activities and athletic events throughout the year, all in an effort to strengthen our members - both physically and spiritually. With your involvement, 2015 could be our best year yet. Please be patient with us, offer your strengths and talents; and, allow your Brothers to bolster your weakness or needs. Come celebrate Christmas and the New Year with your Brothers and their families. Lend your talents and let's construct a New House together, as we move into May you and your family celebrate the season by: Making Christmas truly special by Keeping Christ in yours! May you and your family have a Blessed New Year! Your Brother in Christ, David Dumas, GK. Service Awards The following knights are eligible to receive the years of service award indicated. These awards will be presented at the regular meeting in the month of December. If you cannot be present for that meeting it will be your responsibility to contact the Grand Knight to make alternate arrangements. 4 LADIES AUXILIARY Wow November is over and Christmas is just a few short weeks away. Our Arts and Crafts Show on Nov 8 th is not only our biggest money maker for the year, but it was also the best craft show money maker to date. Give or take a few dollars, our net profit was over $3,300. Thanks to all who baked goodies worked the bakery, were greeters and/or runners, served food, took food orders, kept the drinks flowing, and/or washed dishes, Bakery efforts contributed $438 to our net gain. The hard work of those in the kitchen added approximately $850 to our treasury. Volunteers were (in alphabetical order) Carol Bailey, her granddaughter Fatria Bailey, and her grandson Eric Bailey, Amanda Braden, Ann Dumas, Pat Foster, Patti Kirstein, JoAnn Lovering, Olga Munoz, Dora Otero, Nancy Paulson, Therese Quinn, Carol Schindler, Jean Smith, Christy Weaver, and Sue Young. Special thanks to Albert Mantor, Jr. our volunteer cook who filled orders quickly and was able to put up with six women in the kitchen! On Monday, Dec 1st the ladies will decorate the hall at 10:00 AM for Christmas dinner with the Sisters on Tues., Dec 2 nd. The decorations will also be used for the church and Knights Christmas parties on Sun, 7 th and 14 th respectively. Our dinner with the Sisters will be at 6:00 PM. We will exchange Christmas ornaments and play BUNCO after dinner. We won t have a formal meeting on Dec 2 nd due to hosting the dinner for the Sisters. Keep in mind items for the Jan meeting agenda should be submitted to me (pgm921@gmail.com) or Sue Young) the Tuesday before the meeting (Dec 30 th ). Hope many members will join our Christmas party with the Sisters. Pat Mantor, President; Lecturer s Corner Sacraments And Sacramentals Starting July 2014, we will feature Sacraments and Sacramentals from the USCCB website. There are seven sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation (or Chrismation), the Eucharist, Penance, the Anointing of the Sick, Holy Orders, and Matrimony. MATRIMONY Sacred Scripture begins with the creation and union of man and woman and ends with "the wedding feast of the Lamb" (Rev 19:7, 9). Scripture often refers to marriage, its origin and purpose, the meaning God gave to it, and its renewal in the covenant made by Jesus with his Church.God created man and woman out of love and commanded them to imitate his love in their relations with each other. Man and woman were created for each other. "It is not good that the man should be alone. I will make a suitable partner for him.... The two of them become one body" (Gn 2:18; 24). Woman and man are equal in human dignity, and in marriage both are united in an unbreakable bond.jesus brought to full awareness the divine plan for marriage. In John s Gospel, Christ s first miracle occurs at the wedding in Cana. The Church attaches great importance to Jesus presence at the wedding at Cana. She sees in it the confirmation of the goodness of marriage and the proclamation that thenceforth marriage will be an efficacious sign of Christ s presence (CCC, no. 1613).By their marriage, the couple witnesses Christ's spousal love for the Church. One of the Nuptial Blessings in the liturgical celebration of marriage refers to this in saying, "Father, you have made the union of man and wife so holy a mystery that it symbolizes the marriage of Christ and his Church." The Sacrament of Marriage is a covenant, which is more than a contract. Covenant always expresses a relationship between persons. The marriage covenant refers to the relationship between the husband and wife, a permanent union of persons capable of knowing and loving each other and God. The celebration of marriage is also a liturgical act, appropriately held in a public liturgy at church. Catholics are urged to celebrate their marriage within the Eucharistic Liturgy.from and the United States Catholic Catechism for Adults Wishing you all a Blessed Merry Christmas and a Faith-filled Happy New Year! MERCY MOMENT: We look forward to our Lord s birth on Christmas. Through His birth, His sorrowful passion and death we have received salvation. Jesus made it possible for us to have our Lord s presence with us all the time in the Eucharist. St. Faustina was greatly devoted to our Lord in the Eucharist and in the following months we will share this yearning in her heart and how she can be a very good model for all of us. In her Diary 1337 she says, As I was praying before the Blessed Sacrament and greeting the five wounds of Jesus, at each salutation I felt a torrent of graces gushing into my soul, giving me a foretaste of heaven and absolute confidence in God s mercy, Diary 1404 All the strength of my soul flows from the Blessed Sacrament. I spend all my free moments in conversation with Him [Jesus]. He is my Master and Diary 1485, The mercy of God, hidden in the Blessed Sacrament, the voice of the Lord who speaks to us from the throne of mercy: Come to Me, all of you. DEPUTY'S DESK: Thank you for your participation in the Silver Rose Prayer service. Our council will host the Archdiocese Knights of Columbus Chapter Christmas Party on December 17 This is an all hands evolution which we shouldn't have to ask your assistance. You can even bring your wives and meet other Knights from around the Archdiocese! ALL 1ST degree members can receive their MAJOR DEGREES(2ND/3RD) on Jan 24, We will car pool to New Braunfels, attend mass and then work the degrees. Lunch will follow and should be back at hall by PM. Fellow 3rd degree members who want to travel with these candidates will have to bring $6.00 for lunch. NEXT there will be a 4 TH DEGREE EXEMPLIFICATION at ST BRIDGITS on the same day but the trip is in San Antonio. Unlike the Major degree, there is a $70 cost plus the candidate needs to have a tuxedo whether rented or personal and $35 ticket if wife comes for meal following the degree work. We would welcome other 4 TH degrees to join us in this opportunity celebrating fraternity and patriotism. LASTLY, on a more somber note, January 22 marks a sorry day in our national humanity-roe V WADE. We will symbolize with our Rose vase on the altar and further expressions of solidarity could be Archdiocese masses as well as march on state capital around this time frame. Please be attentive to upcoming announcements and further your points toward the ACE WINGS for YOU & WIFE. VIVAT JESUS Jim
