1 THE TRINITY LUTHERAN November, All Saints Sunday: The Worship Committee would like to begin a new tradition here at Trinity on All Saints Sunday, November 5 th. We want to honor our ancestors that are still a part of us and a part of our lives. Saint Paul describes the saints as a great cloud of witnesses, who when they have passed, we still hold them up, hoping that their virtues might become our own virtue, our own strength. On November 5 th, tables will be set up in the Narthex for the remembrances of our loved ones who may have passed away recently or long ago. These remembrances might include: photos from days past (birthdays, weddings, confirmation, work, funeral, family and fun), articles of clothing/handmade items that bring back special memories, gifts given and received for special occasions. The remembrances might bring a smile to the face or perhaps a tear to the eye as we share our memories. Items can be brought to the church during the week before All Saints Sunday or on that day. If you would like a printed name card or description of an item to place with your remembrance or have any questions, contact the church office anytime between 8:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Each year we pause to give thanks for those of our congregation who died within the past twelve months and light candles in their memory. Stephen Kessler Nov. 10, 2016 Joan Peters January 1, 2017 Wanda Katro January 20, 2017 Samuel Beck February 17, 2017 Barbara Resor April 19, 2017 Christ the King Sunday, (November 26 h ) is the end of the liturgical year and offers God s revelation of the end. Through Jesus throne, the cross, forgiveness becomes the power that Jesus Christ wields in the world.
2 THE LIVING LUTHERAN magazine subscription is due for renewal by December 1, The cost of the subscription is $ If you would like to renew or subscribe, please let the office know before the deadline. GET READY TO RING THE BELLS! Trinity will once again help with ringing the bells for Salvation Army this Christmas season. Please check the sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the Narthex. SAVE THE DATE: TRINITY S YOUTH CHRISTMAS PROGRAM will be on Sunday, December 10. THE CHURCH COUNCIL is seeking individuals to serve on the Pastor Call Committee. Anyone interested in serving on this committee should contact one of our current council members. CONGREGATIONAL SURVEY: There is a basket on the table in the Narthex for completed congregational surveys. There are copies available on the table if you did not receive one by mail. Please fill out and return as soon as possible. The completed surveys will be sent to our Synod office in Springfield to help them while together we seek a pastor to serve at Trinity. Thank you. PLEASE NOTE: WHAT: An OPEN DISCUSSION WHEN: November the 5 th during the coffee hour WHO: All members of Trinity WHERE: in the fellowship hall, downstairs ATTENTION, ALL THRIVENT MEMBERS! October is a Thrivent Choice designation month! Please remember that any Thrivent member who has a minimum of $5.00 available in Thrivent Choice Dollars can make a contribution each quarter. The Trinity Lutheran Church Weekday Children's Ministry and Trinity Lutheran Church itself are both approved to receive Choice Dollars. An easy way to check your Choice Dollar balance and to designate your Choice Dollars is by calling and saying "Thrivent Choice" when the Customer Care prompt happens. It will be convenient if you have your 9 digit Thrivent member ID number available, but it isn't a requirement to prove you are who you say you are. Once they're sure they're talking to the right person, you can request your Choice Dollars be given. You can designate your dollars to be given all to one place or divided - your decision. Thrivent no longer sends out Choice Dollar reminders; we need to remember them ourselves in January, April, July, and October. Please don't let your Choice Dollars go un-used or expire! Please make the call this month and each quarter to use this important member benefit. COMMUNITY THANKSGIVING SERVICE will be hosted this year by Christian Church of Olney at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 19 th. REMEMBER WHEN will have their last meeting of the year on Wednesday, December 6 th. Details will be in the bulletin soon. Members of the church council will be present to discuss the separation of Rev. April Dailey from Trinity Lutheran Church and discuss short term goals for the church and congregation. You are welcome to bring a plate of cookies (or anything) to share.
