7 Prayer Strips Is there someone/something in your life that St. Paul s could pray for? Treat others with kindness. As part of the Learning Communities Initiative, a booth at the August Ice Cream Social encouraged attendees to write their prayer requests onto strips of material. More than 20 prayer strips were generated, ranging from specific needs, healing to general prayers for unity in the community and peace in the world. These strips are posted in the narthex and undercroft alongside our God Sightings bulletin boards. Several church members have expressed interest and a desire to continue creating prayer strips. If you are interested, look for a box at the rear of the church labeled Your Prayers, along with instructions. Also, look for artwork our neighborhood children (and adults) drew at the social and now decorate our CE building windows (courtyard side). St. Paul s gladly accepts these artistic gifts from our neighborhood brethren. Deb Wirag United Thanks Offering Sunday, October 21 st The Fall Ingathering of the UTO will be Sunday, October 21 st. Please convert the change in your UTO Blue Box into bills or check and place it in the envelope that will be in next Sunday s bulletin. Help support the UTO as it ministers to the world. Remember to Utter Thanks Often. Lorraine Jones, UTO Chair
8 WOMEN OF THE CHURCH NEWS October is a busy month with the rummage sale, movie and sleeping bag workshop. November brings the necessary business meeting to discuss finances and distribution of funds. We will hold our business meeting in the Parish Hall on Wednesday, November 7 th at 6:30 p.m., while enjoying coffee and dessert. If you have suggestions for organizations to assist, please or tell me so I can prepare a list for the meeting. Please research your choices first to ensure they are still valid options, and what other sources of funding they may have. Also keep in mind that due to the vast number of needs in our area, we may not be able to fill all requests, or repeatedly fund some of the same organizations. I am sure at the end of the evening we will have a sense of accomplishment at those we have aided. We will also review the rummage sale to determine what worked well, and what needs adjustment, along with other WoC business. Please mark your calendars so you are able to attend this very important business meeting. SUNDAY AT THE MOVIES MOVIE The Women of the Church are hosting a TODAY lite meal and movie following the 10 a.m. service today. This movie is open to the entire parish and friends you may wish to bring. We will see the movie I Can Only Imagine, which is based on the true story behind the song of the same name by contemporary Christian Group, MercyMe. It is a powerful story of faith, redemption and forgiveness. This movie is rated PG. Sandy Schwab, Chairperson The office at St. Paul s will be closed on Monday, October 8th, in honor of Columbus Day.
9 Harvest Dinner Saturday, October 20 th, 5:30 PM Take a moment to slow down and join us for a delicious Harvest Dinner. Roast pork and all the fixings will be served. Please sign up in the back of the church if you are planning on coming and if you wish to volunteer to cook, bake, serve and/or cleanup. The meal is $10/adults, $5/children and free under 4. This is always a great evening with wonderful food and conversation. Lynn Freeman HALLOWEEN AT ST. PAUL S Wednesday, October 31 st from 5:30 to 7:30 PM As part of our outreach ministry here at St. Paul s, we would like to help the children in our neighborhood celebrate Halloween by offering treats to trick-or-treaters who stop by between the hours of 5:30 and 7:30 PM on Wednesday evening, October 31. Additionally, we will have the church open and our lights on so that visitors will feel welcome to stop in and visit, or perhaps just sit quietly in our sanctuary for a short while. The families who reside near our church are primarily families who are economically disadvantaged. Helping their children enjoy the fun of Halloween and opening our doors for any who wish to come and rest awhile is one way we can reach out and minister to our church neighbors. If you would like to donate candy for distribution that evening, please leave it in a marked container in the back of the church on Sunday mornings or drop it off in the church office any time before Halloween. If you have any questions, please talk with Ruthie Koerts or her at RuthieK10@aol.com. Thank you!
10 Make-Up Class for Safe Church, Eucharistic Minister and Eucharistic Visitor Training On Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 11:30 AM there will be a make-up class for those who need Safe Church and those liturgical Minsters who missed the training class in order to be licensed. A notice has been sent out to all involved parties. Anyone who is interested in any of these classes please see Fr. John. Safe Church will be held at 11:30 AM. The Licensing class will be held at 11:30 AM in the Conference Room. Your Safe Church training must be up to date to have your license renewed. Anyone who is not licensed after this class will not be allowed to function in their liturgical role. Any questions or concern, please see Fr. John. Mowers Needed! Mowers are still needed to keep the grounds neat and tidy. A self-propelled mower is in the shed; a calendar sign-up sheet is on the table in the back of the church. If it is convenient for your schedule, the ideal mowing days are Thursday through Saturday, so the lawn looks nice for Sunday. Your help will be very appreciated! Do you like to sing but don t have time to rehearse during the week? St. Paul s Choir practices on Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. before the 10:00 service. Come join us! Any questions see Paula.
