Garey, the Village of Endicott Police Chief, will be here at St. Paul s for a presentation on Safety and Active Shooter Situations. I would expect all Ushers/Greeters and all of us to attend this important conversation, not only for our church community, but all the situations we find ourselves in. Pizza and salad will be served. Plan on attending. The meeting will last 90 minutes. The Vestry meeting will follow.

7 All Saints Soup & Sandwich Saturdays All Saints Episcopal Church in Johnson City offers a community Soup and Sandwich lunch every Saturday. During the college school year many Binghamton University students help with this ministry but, of course, they are not around during the summer, creating a shortage of people to help with this ministry. All Saints has requested our help on the fourth Saturdays of the summer. These dates are: June 23, July 28 and August 25. If you are able to help with this (and enjoy lunch as well!), please sign up on the form in the back of the church. CHOW Continues Even Through the Summer! Summer brings a great risk of food insecurity to families with children. During the school year, two meals are provided by the schools. Summer meal programs are available for children, but location, transportation and transportation costs prevent many families from participating in these programs. During the summer months the CHOW pantries are asked to help close the gap. Please consider donating the following foods to help these families: cold cereals, jams or jellies, soup, spaghetti sauce, crackers, canned fruit, ready to eat pudding or jello, cake mixes, brownie mixes, cookies, granola bars, and juice. 9 Acolyte Training & Pizza Party TODAY Calling all current and interested Acolytes! We will have a training session and pizza party today after the 10:00 a.m. church service. Meet Father John and myself upstairs around the altar. To be an acolyte you need to be an adult or youth going into the fourth grade or above and have your parents support. This means that your parents need to make sure you are at church by 9:45 a.m. in time for you to vest and light the candles. All schedules will be snail mailed. Father John will walk through the service with us. We will also have time to eat pizza and have a question and answer period and robe selection. Rain or shine we will once again be at Glendale Park to enjoy worship, food and fellowship. If you would like to help in any way, please see contact Sindy Garey at as there are many small tasks that need to be accomplished for this event. It s Merry Mowing Time! The sun is shining (sometimes) and the rain is raining (often!) resulting in the grass growing! Mowers are needed to keep the grounds neat and tidy. A self-propelled mower is in the shed; a sign-up sheet is on the table in the back of the church. If it is convenient for your schedule, the ideal mowing days are Thursday through Saturday so the lawn looks nice for Sunday.

11 A Note from Your Rector One of the responsibilities of the Vestry is to maintain our physical plant. During an inspection of the Christian Ed roof within the past month we have been informed that it is at the end of its life. The second roof was installed over the original roof in 1984, thus making it 33 years old. It has served us well. One of the factors contributing to its longevity is the slope of the roof. That being said the Vestry has approved the replacement of the roof by Binghamton Slag roofing for $38, This indicates a 4-8% saving in material. By resolution we have agreed to take the money from the Gould Fund with the intention of paying ourselves back. As you are aware with the slide in the stock market and removing the money for the roof, this takes more of a percentage out that we have tried to maintain. We have tried to maintain a withdrawal rate of 4% or less. We realize the Gould Fund is there for our use but at the same time we feel we must preserve the fund in order to maintain our parish s viability for the future. At the same time, we also found out that the Church Roof was installed in September 9, 1992, making it 25 years old. Once again, the help of its longevity is the slope of the roof. We our hoping to get a few more years out of the roof. Today s cost of replacing the roof is $43,981. The savings of $2, to do both roofs at the same time we feel is not prudent. Thus, we will postpone the Church roof. At the same time, we need to have a conversation about how we fund these projects. This conversation will include asking for donations to having a capital campaign. Bernice Gould was willing to share her bounty with us and we give thanks for her contribution but at the same time we know that the Gould Fund is the reason that we can be who we are and do what we can both for ourselves and others. This is why Saint Paul's Episcopal Church of Endicott is hosting Life Line Screening, the nation s leading provider of preventive health screenings on Thursday, June 14, The screenings provided focus on vascular disease, a leading cause of illness, death and disability among men. Screenings are fast, painless and affordable. Three key tests check for blocked carotid arteries, an irregular heart rhythm called atrial fibrillation, and high blood pressure, which are the three leading risk factors for stroke. Nearly 800,000 strokes will occur this year, taking a life approximately every four minutes. Other tests check for abdominal aortic aneurysms and hardening of the arteries in the legs. A bone density screening to assess osteoporosis risk is also offered and is appropriate for both men and women. Many events also offer blood tests, including cholesterol, glucose and c-reactive protein screenings, as well as take-home colon cancer early detection tests. Screening packages start at $139.
