Thursday, November 22 nd, 2:00 PM Is your calendar clear on Thanksgiving Day? If it is, please join some of our St. Paul s Family at 2:00 p.m. for traditional pumpkin and apple pie and maybe even a mystery dessert! Military Service Hockey Game Saturday, November 10 th This event will be at Floyd Maines Veterans Arena, Binghamton. If you would like the name of a loved family member or friend to be remembered, please write the name(s) on the cards available at the back of Church. You will have an opportunity to bring your card to the altar as we have done in previous years. Those cards will remain on the altar for the month of November.

6 All Things Spiritual! We will gather for prayer and discussion about a chapter in the book per meeting. The session will last 90 minutes. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 7th, at 10:15 AM. Sleeping Bag Workshop Thursday, November 8 th at 1 PM Our sleeping bag workshops are held at 1:00 pm on the 2 nd Thursday of each month in the undercroft. Please feel free to join us. Sewing skills are not necessary. Deb Wirag, Chairperson Veterans Day Service Sunday, November 11 th If you or a loved one is currently or has served in any branches of the armed forces, please provide us with the name, branch and dates served on the list in the back of the church as we will be taking a moment to recognize the sacrifices made by our military personnel at our Veterans Day Service. Gould Fund Presentation Tuesday, November 13 th at 6:30 PM Once a year Tony Farrand delivers his report to the Vestry on the status of the Gould Fund. The Vestry also receives a monthly report and a recap of the monthly report is in the monthly meeting minutes. This year Tony will be present at the Tuesday, November 13 th Vestry meeting. We are inviting anyone who wishes to learn more about the Gould Fund to come to this meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30 PM. As you know, Tony also gives an annual report to the congregation about the Gould Fund in the Annual Meeting Report.

7 NEWS FROM THE PROPERTY COMMITTEE Our church is over 60 years old and the Christian Ed building is over 40 years old. Just like our homes, age takes its toll and we must look at the areas that are showing wear, areas that are no longer meeting the current and/or long-term needs of our church, energy efficiency, and safety/security issues. Therefore, St. Paul s Vestry has asked the Property Committee to review the condition of the church s property and buildings and identify those areas needing attention now or in the near future. The committee has been asked to determine the scope of work for each area identified along with gathering price estimates for each item and prioritizing the list of projects. This analysis and fact gathering process is not yet complete. The Property Committee hopes to present its findings to the Vestry at the November meeting. It will then be up to the Vestry to review, discuss and make a determination on whether any or all of the projects will be included and to develop a time schedule for completion and a plan for paying for the items. More information will be forthcoming as we work our way through this process. Dick Schwab, Property Committee Chair Today, after the 10 AM service beginning at 11:15 AM, we will show the movie: Mandela s Long Walk to Freedom. Nelson Mandela s extraordinary journey to become one of history s most iconic figures is brought to life in this movie. Mandela s charisma and impassioned dedication as political leader and human rights advocate is powerfully portrayed. The film chronicles his early life, education and marriage and 27-year prison sentence before becoming South Africa s first democratically elected president working to rebuild the country s once segregated society. Food and snacks will be available to share.

8 IMPORTANT MEETING WOMEN OF THE CHURCH The Women of the Church will hold an important business meeting on Wednesday, November 7 th at 6:30 p.m. in the undercroft. There are a number of issues to be discussed and ultimately voted on at this meeting. One topic is the ability to continue the Memorial Luncheon Ministry. We currently have only two teams for these luncheons, which does not always ensure that someone will be available to provide a luncheon. Another topic is the future of the rummage sale. Although lucrative, the work is excessive and many are no longer able to help. Currently, the church is not accepting any rummage donations until we have made a decision on this issue. Also, we must make a determination as to whether we will expend any funds from our treasury at this time or hold them in reserve until we have a clearer idea of our goals and ministry. Age, illness, disabilities, and sadly, death, are making it more and more difficult for us to continue doing things the way we have in the past. I am confident that together we can discuss the issues and find effective ways to move forward. In the interim if you have any questions please feel free to talk to me. The evening won t be all serious talk. We need to discuss what we would like to do for our December WoC holiday gathering lunch out, a covered dish dinner, a catered dinner or possibly other ideas you may have. Of course, it wouldn t be the WoC without refreshments. We will enjoy coffee, tea and desserts throughout our discussion. A sign-up sheet is at the back of the church. If 3-4 people could note on the sheet that they are willing to bring dessert it would be greatly appreciated. In closing I wish to express my gratitude to all who stepped up to ensure that the fall rummage sale was held, in spite of our sadness over the loss of Connie and Eunice. I know some had to alter schedules and others came in who do not normally assist with the rummage sale. I also know there was much work behind the scenes to pull all the pieces together and keep it going. Thank you to all who helped make this happen. Sandy Schwab, Chairperson
