Stephen Maddox Secretary: Leslie Coe Organist: Barbara Schwartz November 2016 Pastor s News for the People of God October Camden United Methodist church and St. John's Catholic Church joined together to be hear a wonderful message of unity by Fr. Francis Pompei an ordained Catholic priest and friar in the Franciscan order. For those who were able to arrive early on Tuesday evening he even treated the two congregations with his fantastic illusions that amazed and delighted the crowd. What was important though is that for three evenings we heard wonderful stories about young people sincerely and passionately moved to become followers of Jesus Christ. Fr. Pompei spoke of how important it is for all of us to find that same deep and intimate connection to Jesus. And then on Thursday we were all treated to a most delicious harvest dinner! The secretary is not in the office on Thursday. The Pastor will be in the office most Wednesdays and Thursdays 1-3pm. You may call during these hours to speak with the secretary, or the office at: camdenumc@centralny.twcbc.com. If you would like to come in during these hours please use the side door across from the office, and ring the bell to the right. The doors to our building will remain locked. If you would like to dedicate our worship bulletins to loved ones please check with the office to book the date. The minimum suggested donation is $6.60 a Sunday. If you would like to dedicate a hymn to loved ones for one of our worship services, for a donation, please check with the office for the date and to pick the hymn. The deadline for the December newsletter is Wednesday, November 2, If your group has news for the newsletter, please let the office know. If you are planning an event please be sure to check the church calendar for availability, a copy of the calendar is on the board outside of the office. If your event requires the office to participate or prepare any information for that event, please let the office know before it is announced. It appeared that most of the congregation was engaged in some way in preparing, serving and cleaning up after what was truly an ecumenical community oriented event. Thanks everyone who participated in any way including lifting up prayers. The next two major happening in the church are the Christmas Bazaar and Charge Conference. Unfortunately this year they will be occurring simultaneously. I am hoping that some of the churches leaders will be able to attend Charge conference this year at Rome First UMC. There will be worship and then reporting as is traditional. Speaking of reporting if you are leading or chairing an administrative ministry of the church (finance, trustees, SPRC etc.) I would ask you to please, please, please check with Leslie to see if your annual report is due for Charge conference. If it is it may be that the report needs to be submitted by November 4 which is quickly approaching. Please let me know if I can be of any help to you. Blessings, Pastor Steve Adult News Sunday Morning: SEEKERS adult study group meets on Sunday mornings from in the Library Lounge. All are invited to join us on our journey through life via the Bible. Wednesday evening We will be starting the Disciple I course. This is a 34 week study with daily reading and thought provoking questions. Come join us! 2016 Christmas Bazaar The bazaar will be held on Saturday November 19, :00-4:00. Come out and help support our local vendors. For questions please call Karleen Yager at *Before 8pm. Food Pantry News for September Hello dear church family. Once again the food pantry has had a busy month of September. We served 113 families, 347 individuals, and gave out 5,205 meals. We are still receiving wonderful fresh vegetables from community gardens. We served 113 families, 347 individuals and gave out 5,205 meals. Our Methodist church gave $113 and 141 items for a total of approximately 255 entire meals. This helps us out so much. We appreciate your generosity and caring. Thank you from all of us at the pantry. I m sure Jacqui is happy to know we are still going strong! The Camden Area Food Pantry is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 12:30 PM, and now Tuesday evenings from 6-7 pm. Phone (315) Church Charge Conference November 19, 2016 at Rome First UMC. The worship service is from 2:45-3:30. Our charge conference will be 3:45-4:45. Who is recommended to be at charge conference? All church leadership chairs (SPRC, Ad Council, Trustees, Finance, Lay Member to Annual Conference, Safe Sanctuaries). signup The signup for s will be November 16, 17, 18 & 19. The th will be from 4-7pm, the 19 th will be 9am-12pm. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday will be at the Camden United Methodist Church in the Head Start rooms. The Thursday signup will be from 4-7pm at the North Bay Village Hall. Volunteers will be needed to help supply soups, baked goods, and to clean up after. Please contact Karleen Yager at *Before 8pm. Come out and help to meet or exceed the goal! Please note that the Bloodmobile is on Mondays. Rapid Pass allows you to complete the reading material and the questions the day of your donation, but before you arrive. This will allow more donors by speeding up your registration process. Card Supplies There are card supplies available, free to use for personal use or to send a card to someone in our church family near and far. Thanks, Janice Harvest Dinner Thank you for all of your help this year to make our dinner a success! After the expenses we have $1,422+ profit. Some of the places the profit will be going toward are UMCOR, Worship Without Walls (Utica mission group), Cluster 13, Camden Area Food Pantry, Shoebox Ministry, and fuel oil for the church. Increased Giving Sunday Our finance team would like to thank you all for your giving so far this year. The team would like to encourage you, if you are able, to give 10% more than you have been on November 6 th. This will help us meet our budget for this year. Thank you for your continued financial support. People needed to fill teams! We are looking for people to help lead our church for the next year. If you are interested in helping out, please see Pastor Steve to let him know. Please take the time to pray for our church leadership. If you feel called to one of these positions please pray, ask questions, pray, and answer the call as called. We will have more information to come about the teams. Below are the current needs for the next year. Most of these teams meet as needed or quarterly. Some of these will need to meet monthly. Staff/Parish Relations: 5-9 members Trustees: 3-9 members Safe Sanctuaries: at least 1 male and 1 female Sunday School Superintendent/s: 1-2 Christian Education: at least 5 Worship planning: 5-9 Wanted, Stickers If you receive stickers in your mail, that you will be throwing away.
