As autumn begins and temperatures cool, the most noticeable change is a colorful display of leaves. But there is also a shift within me--a sense of fresh energy and excitement. Visible changes remind me that all is evolving. Seeing God's transformational handiwork in nature triggers in me a deepening awareness of my potential for positive change. I find opportunities to grow closer to God and deeper in spiritual understanding. Whether the changes I face are minor or monumental, I have the spiritual tools I need to meet them with confidence and faith. 3 14 POEM FOR OCTOBER Fall is a rainbow of colors Each fall is an artwork of color Placed on display, As this changing season unfolds In all its array. God takes the shades from the rainbow Stretched cross the sky, Pulls a dab of each color to earth From up on high. He uses a splash of red for the apples And the leaves of tall oak, Paints pumpkins and maple trees orange With but a stoke. He places the yellow of the bow Upon juicy pears and goldenrod, And enriches the color of evergreens Standing in dark sod. Sprinkles the wild aster and chicory With a smither of blue, Drops some on the grapes For a sweeter taste, too. Thanks, Lord, for this rainbow of colors Created by Thee, Placed on this great earth That all men might see. The members of this ministry meet on the 4th Thursday at 10 am for an hour of stitchery and sharing Completed shawls are available for anyone to give to someone who might be comforted with a special wrap.

Pledge Kick off Feed and entertainment after 10 am service OCT 23 TO 25 Diocesan Convention OCT 29 Pot Luck Supper OCT 31 Halloween please watch for the kids PLEDGE DRIVE. Kicks off, with food and entertainment on Sunday, Oct 18th following the 10:00 AM service. St. Mary's youth will prepare and serve a Spaghetti luncheon, after the presentation. Plan to be there, for the food, fellowship, fun, entertainment and surprise Singing Group. All donations received will go to next years Paradise Point Camp, Youth Scholarship Fund.. After a tempestuous adolescence and long months of time in prison, Francis Bernardonen was transformed by divine grace. The Gospels, understood literally, became his rule of life, and his only thought was the imitation of Our Lord in all things. He thought of himself as having married Lady Poverty and was to be seen barefoot, in rough clothes, begging at the gates and preaching purity of heart and peace to all. Francis loved God with an infinite love and all creatures for love of Him. He composed sublime songs to the glory of his brother the Sun. He lived on intimate terms with the wolves and the birds. Francis worked with his hands, swept out churches and cared for lepers. The religious and artistic influence of St. Francis was immense and it endures to this day. No other figure has been the

6 6 NURSES' NOTES We are usually not at our best when we visit any health care provider. Here we are, feeling rotten (or worse) and someone is asking us a bunch of questions when our thinking is a bit muddled and all we would really rather do is be somewhere (anywhere) else. Without adequate information, diagnosis becomes more difficult and treatment can be delayed. A bit of pre-planning will make assessing and diagnosing your health issue proceed much more smoothly. First, carry with you a current list of all the medications you take on a regular basis (both prescribed and over the counter). If you have any chronic health problems (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc) that information would be very helpful to include also. Additionally, include the names of your doctors (both family and specialists), the pharmacy you use and the name and phone number of the person you would like to have notified in the event of an emergency. Second, place this list in an envelope along with copies of your insurance cards (both front and back) in your purse (if you are a lady) your wallet (if you are a gentleman).
