MICHAEL CASE Priest-in-Charge Dear People of Holy Nativity, I hope you all have had a wonderful summer. While not over just yet, kids are back at school and major family vacations are over for the most part. September 22 nd, the official last day of summer, is fast approaching and fall will then be upon us. While I m sure a few days of hot weather are still ahead, the nights are starting to be cooler, the sun is setting earlier, and people are starting the end of summer/ beginning of fall yard clean-up tasks. At Holy Nativity we are gearing up for the start of another Sunday School year, which will kick off on September 11 th. As we have been discussing the Sunday School year, questions of confirmation classes, newcomers classes and baptisms have come up. I would be interested to know who might be considering baptism or renewing their baptismal vows. I would also be interested in speaking with anyone interested in a newcomer s class, or who might be looking at confirmation or reception during the next Bishop s visit. All of these things are possibilities and would be wonderful formation opportunities. As we move into the new school year, and as schedules start falling into more of a routine, what types of formation or educational opportunities might be calling to us? How might we move deeper into our life within the church? How might we move deeper into our life with God? In Christ s love, Michael+

2 Deacon s Corner Mark your calendars for the Ada County/Boise CROP Hunger Walk to be held on Sunday, October 16th at 2 PM at Julia Davis Park. The Ada County CROP Hunger Walk is one of 1,000+ across the nation, symbolizing the walk many around the world must make for basic resources such as food, water, shelter and protection. In a world where there is enough food for all, we are moved to action by the fact that 1 out of every 9 people goes to bed hungry each night. During the Coffee Hours on Sunday, September 18th October 16th our congregation will have 2 ways to participate: Sign-ups for anyone who wants to join Team Holy Nativity. Team members will collect donations and walk on Sunday, October 16th. Donate money to this worthy cause! CROP Hunger Walks are community-wide events sponsored by Church World Service and organized by local congregations or groups to raise funds to end hunger at home and around the world. Money raised supports food programs in emergency response, as well as longer-term solutions like enhancing food security and providing sustainable safe water supplies. In addition, 25 percent of funds raised stays in Boise to bolster the local hunger-fighting efforts of the Idaho Foodbank. Message from the Senior Warden School has started, where did the summer go. With summer nearly over that means Sunday School and the Youth group will be starting on Sept. 11. Also Rite 13 will start in September. We had a safety inspection by Joe Keller from the Diocese. He made several suggestions one was we need a safety plan in case of emergency where people are to gather or where to meet if our building is destroyed or unsafe. Christy Fendley mentioned that at her school they have a list of this information in each classroom. She will get a copy and maybe we will be able to adapt it to our needs. Bob Burnz should be able to help us with this also. Harvest Festival has been scheduled for Oct. 29. Mary Buchanan, I m sure, will be looking for people to help put this fun time together. Stewardship will begin in October and ends in November with the theme Living Generously. There will be more information on this when it gets closer. By the time the newsletter is out, the lights in the parking lot should be working. I m sure everyone that has meetings at night at the church will be happy about this. I know I will, thank you Phil. Hope everyone had a good summer and welcome back to all of you that we have been missing this summer. Blessings, Jo Ann 2

3 July Vestry Highlights By JoAnn Myers Mike Magette, the finance chairman, reported that we have a very healthy bank balance considering it is the middle of the summer. Steve Bush will retire as pledge secretary the end of August but will be available to train a new person and to help out if needed. A replacement has been found. Darwin Buchanan has agreed to take over as pledge secretary. Canon Lucinda had a couple dates in October that she could come serve at HN. We set October 16 that she and Fr. Michael would serve together. We set a date for the Mutual Ministry Review. This is not evaluation of performance; it is a document showing how well the vestry, Deacon Debbie and Fr. Michael are working together and for setting new goals. A questionnaire will be given to all Vestry members and 10 selected ministry leaders in the parish. They will be answered and sent to Canon Lucinda before we meet on Sept. 22. The meeting will be from 5:30-8:30pm and dinner will be provided. Deanery pre-convention meeting will take place on Tuesday, October 18 at Holy Nativity 7:00-9:00pm. We need to provide coffee and cookies. Convention is November in Pocatello. Phil Street has been getting bids to fix the lighting in the parking lot, to refurbish the parking lot and replace the roof on the rectory. It was suggested to contact the insurance company to see if the roof had hail damaged in Sept Phil is also getting bids on carpeting a couple of the rooms. September Ladies' Time Out Friday, September 23rd Fiesta Guadalajara Restaurant 6:30 PM Join us for good food and lots of talk. A sign up sheet will be in the gym. Look for more information on October rock painting party. Books will be in the gym for ideas. You might like to keep your eye out for those special rocks just lying about waiting to be painted. 3

7 Left: Cindy Wolfenbarger playing Amazing Grace on her bagpipe at the end of the Eucharistic service. Women s Camp Memories By Debbie Greenleaf Oh, the memories of Women s Camp 2016! Whether we were splashing around in Payette Lake (our own Sue Pahlas and Claire Barrett went kayaking and even gave the paddleboards a try) or just quietly enjoying the beautiful solitude of Paradise Point- I know for me it was a weekend I will always cherish. I was blessed to be asked to be the Spiritual Director for camp this year and our Saturday meditations were on the Serenity Prayer. Women s Camp gave us an opportunity to meet up with old friends, and make some new ones. For myself it was great to meet and get to know Becky Rowell better. The first night the ladies from Holy Nativity ventured out, sitting and searching the night sky for shooting stars-i think I saw 3 before I turned in for the night. Another evening we all gathered around the campfire, sang corny camp songs, (have to admit we did get a bit rowdy with help from the Paradise Point staff) and topped the evening off with s mores. Music for the entire weekend was supplied by Cindy Wolfenbarger and her lovely band of musicians (besides guitars included an accordion and ukuleles.) Sunday morning Eucharist was held at the campfire ring with Cindy ending our service with her rendition of Amazing Grace played on the bagpipes-a Women s Camp tradition that I look forward to ever year! Women s camp offers so much more I sincerely hope that more of our Holy Nativity women are inspired to join us next year! 7
