Michael at (208) to make an appointment The Episcopal Church of the Holy Nativity 828 W. Cherry Lane Meridian, Idaho (208) SUNDAY WORSHIP 9:30 AM Monthly Message from The Rev. Michael Case, Priest-in-Charge Dear People of Holy Nativity, As we enter March we are almost halfway through our Lenten journey. Once again, we are in a time of soon, but not yet. Soon, we will celebrate Christ s triumph over the grave but not yet. As we await that triumphal day, we still have time to live deeper into our Lenten practice, whatever that may be. As we near the end of the month, we also near the end of our Lenten journey. The final week of March will pull us deep into the liturgies of Holy Week, kicked off by Palm Sunday and the Passion reading. On Wednesday of Holy week, we will celebrate Tenebrae, a service that moves from light to darkness, reminding us that the darkness will never overcome Christ s light. On Thursday, we will have the opportunity to celebrate our Seder Supper (soup and bread) in the Parish Hall prior to our Maundy Thursday service in the sanctuary. This service commemorates Jesus washing of the feet of the disciples at the institution of the Last Supper. This demonstration by Jesus of the new commandment to love one another will be part of the service. As always, all may, some should, none must. On Friday we will walk the Stations or Way of the Cross, utilizing our newly acquired stations. This will be followed by our Good Friday service, commemorating Jesus crucifixion. All of this is to lead up to Great Vigil of Easter on Saturday. It is here that we kindle the new fire and light the Paschal candle. In the early church, the Vigil was a night-long service that began in darkness and ended with the dawn on Easter. It was here that those who had been studying for 3 long years were able to celebrate baptism into the new faith. All of our evening services begin at 7:30 p.m. Check the newsletter for times of the Seder Supper and Stations of the Cross. Continued on page 2

2 MARCH 2018 Page 2 Monthly Message from The Rev. Michael Case Continued from page 1 Finally, with the end of March and the beginning of April, we will celebrate Easter, which falls on April first. While we will be celebrating a new month, we will also be celebrating new life Christ s triumph over the grave. As always, Holy Week has a lot to offer the people of Holy Nativity. It is my hope and prayer that those of you that have not experienced the full array of services offered during Holy Week will take advantage of this opportunity. Of course, those of you who have experienced these services before are welcome as well. Through the services of Holy Week we are able to see how our liturgy builds to celebrate the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, life over death. May your journey through the end of Lent and into the joyous season of Easter be blessed. God s peace to you always, Michael + Thank you for your kindness Just a quick note of thanks to all who sent cards with warm sentiments, brought food or expressed their condolences after the passing of Darwin s father. Your thoughtfulness was greatly appreciated and so very heartwarming. We feel very blessed to have such wonderful friends. 4 MARCH 2018 Page 4 FEBRUARY VESTRY HIGHLIGHTS The meeting opened a 6:38 PM with Christy Fendley reading the Prayer for Vestries. Minutes - Cindy Wolfenbarger Minutes were approved as presented by on Jan. 21st. Treasurer s Report - Mike Magette Mike handed out and reviewed the financial reports. There were no issues and we are doing well. Vestry Reports: Internet Service: Mike mentioned our Internet service with Century Link. Cindy Wolfenbarger said that our promotion will be ending March 4th and she is supposed to call Century Link to find out what the new promotion will be. We are paying $ per month. Mike said that Cableone might be cheaper. He will send Cindy some information so she can negotiate with them. Action Items: Goals for 2018 It was noted that we need to start setting up committees to work on our four goals for Each area should have a vestry liaison, a chairman and 4-6 committee members. 1. Capital Campaign: Chairman - Mike Magette Vestry liaison - Garry Mattson Members - Phil Street, Clay Lisle and Youth Group: Vestry liaison - Christy Fendley Chairman: Members - Paul Parish and Outreach/Evangelism: Vestry liaison - Len Anderson Chairman-Carrie Magette Members: These committees will be advertised and parishioners invited to join the committees that interest them. Sound in the Parish Hall- Fr. Michael Fr. Michael suggested we use some large colorful panels on the walls in the Parish hall to deaden some of the sound the Vestry agreed this would be a good idea. We are also considering having the large cross in the front of the Sanctuary mounted up on the wall (Before Easter?). Fr. Michael needs to talk to Jason Becker. Youth Group-Christy Fendley Christy asked if it would be possible to use the rectory for the Youth Group room. The one they are using now tends to end up as a temporary storage area. Additionally, she asked if it would be possible to fix it up with a stove and fridge to use for overnight events? She also said that Scout troops might be interested in renting it for events. Again, the vestry thought it would be worth looking into since the space is not being used for anything at this point. The meeting ended at 8:00 PM with all praying the Lord s Prayer. Respectfully Submitted, Cindy Wolfenbarger, Vestry Clerk 3. Stewardship: Vestry liaison - Shawna Myers Chairman - Gladys Clymens Members - Barbara Samperisi and...
