He will lead his first service at Good Shepherd the next day, July 12. We, the members of Good Shepherd, will help unload the van and fill the parsonage on the 11th. Please come and help. A luncheon will be provided for the Smiths and the helpers. If you cannot help unpack come anyway to greet and welcome them. The parsonage was cleaned, washed and painted inside on June 27 from 9 am to 5 pm. Many people worked very hard and long to accomplish this. The parsonage is in great condition for the new family. 2 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE On Saturday,June 27th members of the congregation gathered to clean and paint the parsonage to ready it for Pastor Justin and Jessica. Thanks to the hard work and dedication of all those participating we will be able to offer a fresh and welcoming home they can be happy to make their own. Special thanks go out to Brian Tompkins & Ed Davis for organizing the work (and doing much of it) at the parsonage and to Elinor Leili for organizing the delicious and ample luncheon. Everyone who helped out went above and beyond expectations and I assure you every hand was needed! Once again I am humbled and grateful to be a part of this wonderful congregation who demonstrated great generosity in both funding the project and in giving the time, skills and elbow grease necessary to make it happen. You know who you are and you are a blessing to all of us. Pastor Justin was ordained in his hometown church in Milwaukee, on Sunday June 28 th and looks forward to his and Jessica s arrival in New Fairfield. After their long journey we want to gather once again to help them move their belongings in and introduce ourselves on the morning of Saturday, July 11 th. Move-in will be followed by a luncheon giving us a chance to enjoy some fellowship. If it is anything like the one we just had, you won t want to miss it! Pastor Justin will hold his first service here the next day, Sunday July 12 th and plans are being made for his installation service to be held in the afternoon of Sunday, August 2 nd with a potluck dinner featuring a chowder cook-off to follow. You can make creamy New England clam or seafood chowder, tomato based Manhattan, clear broth Rhode Island or even corn chowder for the landlubbers Get creative! Special thanks go out to Carol Woodside, who has been diligent in fulfilling the demanding requirements of discipleship during the vacancy and to my right hand man, Linton Hamilton, for being the go to guy in so many areas needing oversight. Special thanks to The Women s Service League for focusing their efforts on getting the church building organized and to our board members who have all been essential, doing their jobs faithfully and admirably, making mine that much easier. Finally, a big thank you to Pastor Gregory Wismar and Pastor Bill Meyer whose ministry has helped us all to continue Grow and Share in the Love of Christ. Liz

5 Lunch Break Much thanks to Brian Tompkins, who as property chairman became the bearer of all the work preparing the parsonage and church property for a new pastor. Brian was painting trim on Sunday. Much thanks to Ed Davis, who prepped and painted the pastor s office. Duane Kish spent hours weed whacking the back yard of the parsonage and along the stone wall. Will Freeborn did the plumbing repairs. Elinor Leili organized the luncheon and provided the two three foot long sandwiches. Also working on Saturday were: Patty Tompkins, Don Breeger. Beverly Breeger, Eric Schonenberg, Liz Smith, Taylor Dice, Chip Dice, Bonnie Dice, Juanita Bok, Fred Bok, James Kloos, Kevin Kloos, Suzanne Kloos, Jackie Kloos, Carol, Hamilton, Chris Kish, Liz Thomson. Carol Woodside, Bob Woodside, Barbara Szaley and Sandy Lowry provided morale support. Beverly Breeger, Chris Kish and Carol Hamilton vaccumed and steam cleaned the parsonage carpets on Monday. If anyone was left out we truly are sorry an d still thank you. All of these people are thanked immensely. It was a big job but it got done.

6 WOMEN S SERVICE LEAGUE Fourteen pillowcase dresses were sent to Orphan Grain Train last month. If you have any gently used pillowcases or can get some on sale give them to us and we will make them into more dresses. Fifteen women gathered together at church for a luncheon on June 18. Good fellowship and good food was enjoyed by all. Look for more pictures on the bulletin board in the narthex. The Discipleship Commission has worked very hard the past year and I would particularly like to thank Jane McGowan for assuming Alma's Altar Guild role, working every week to help get the bulletins ready, and to make sure that we have the office supplies that we need. Patty Tompkins has been invaluable; ordering flowers, updating attendance, working on bulletins, etc., etc., etc. And so many others to thank. Carol Just a Reminder: that the narthex bulletin board is the spot for pictures of activities, notices of activities, signup sheets, synod and district news and happenings and minutes of board meetings and congregational meetings and our LWML and Women s Service League news and events.
