Leaves are starting to change. Flowers are starting to pass by the wayside. People are beginning to prepare their yards and homes for the winter to come, just as we did here at during Clean-up Day. And for a few of the men at, we were able to assist preparing Paradise Point Camp for the winter to come as well through a service project during Men s Camp. It was a demonstration of how small numbers can do great things. It seems there is a lot going on at this time of year related to planning and preparing, as well as to service. We are planning the Blessing of the Animals service in honor of St. Francis of Assisi. This service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 6th. Bring your pets (last year we even had horses) and give thanks for the joy their presence brings to our lives. As I write this, I am in the process of planning the Celtic Eucharist for October. As you know, this is a service I have been involved with for some time, which takes place at All Saints Episcopal Church in Boise on the second Sunday of the month. All are welcome, so feel free to come and experience Eucharist influenced by our Celtic traditions and history. All Saints is located at 704 S. Latah Street in Boise. The service takes place at 5:30 on October 14th in the Parish Hall. At, we are also planning and preparing to engage in the Thanksgiving Box Drive in November, a service that benefits those in need in the Treasure Valley. Dn. Debbie began this service while she was at, and Shawna Meyers continues this now tradition which allows us to share our abundance with others. If you have questions about this ministry, speak with Shawna. And of course, October is the month we kick off our Stewardship Drive. 2 OCTOBER 2018 Page 2 Monthly Message from The Rev. Michael Case Continued from page 1 about the formal pledge drive, and the true meaning of stewardship beyond our monetary pledge. You will also be hearing about our Capital Campaign for those long-focused goals here at. While speaking of finances are not always a comfortable thing, it is a vital part of what we do as a church to ensure appropriate planning for current ministries and function of the church, as well as looking to the future as Holy Nativity grows. These conversations allow us to see God s abundance in our lives, as well as dream of how that abundance can build God s Kingdome here on earth in the Meridian area and beyond. 'Tis the Season HOLIDAY BAZAAR Frday, Nov. 2 Noon-6pm Saturday. Nov. 3 9am-6pm As we continue to plan and prepare our homes for winter, how is God calling you to plan and prepare God s Kingdom? What actions or service is God calling you into? More importantly, how might you answer that call with God s help, and the help of your church community? In Christ s love, Michael + will be participating in the Thanksgiving Box project again in this year. Collection of the boxes will be held on 11/18/18. More details to come. 3 OCTOBER 2018 Page 3 SEPTEMBER VESTRY HIGHLIGHTS The meeting opened at 6:30 PM with Shawna M. reading the Prayer for Vestries. Minutes: The minutes of the August Vestry meeting were approved by . Stewardship Committee: Gladys Clymens and Brian Grassley attended to present some ideas and ask some questions concerning the upcoming Stewardship campaign. Members of the congregation have agreed to speak each Sunday and this will be incorporated within the sermon. The Vestry agreed that a collaborative effort between the Capital Campaign Committee and Stewardship would be a good idea on one Sunday. The gathering of pledges was also discussed with several ideas discussed. The Stewardship campaign will run for 6 weeks. Treasurer: Mike Magette reported that pledges were low, but plate offering was up so it is a wash. No extraordinary expenses have occurred so we are in good shape. VESTRY REPORTS: Financial: Mike Magette asked for clarification of last month's decision to put the $12,500 set aside in this year's budget for air conditioner replacement into a separate fund account so it will be available when it is needed. The Vestry agreed that this was the intent a complete separate account. Mike also asked about the budget for Caring Closet. As this was the first year for this account an arbitrary figure was used. This is being used faster than anticipated so it was determined that this line item be increased for next year. Mary has a bulletin board set up in the Parish Hall specifying needed items. We need to remind the congregation of this mission regularly. Paradise Point: Christy Fendley has begun receiving mailings from The Paradise Point Campaign committee. Outreach: Mike Magette asked if it would be possible to hold a BBQ for the neighborhood surrounding our church. There is a nice park on 8th St that could be used. Vestry agreed that it would be a great outreach for the neighborhood. Len Anderson: In anticipation of his move, Len would like to donate a sound system, speakers and cables included. He just needs someone to pick it up. The system may need some 'work' but is an expensive system. Fr. Michael Paradise Point Men's Camp is still up in the air as )only 6 men have signed up. St. Luke's Medical Center, Meridian, has been calling on Fr. Michael to minister to Episcopalians in that facility. The Hailey Youth Group has arranged to use our Parish Hall next June for a Lock In. They will be asked to be active participants in our worship service on Sunday. A 'walk-through' was done in the Rectory with the Youth Leaders and plans are being formulated to re-vamp for the Youth to use a portion of that facility. Fr. Michael is the facilitator of the Clergy Book Club which meets monthly. Thanksgiving Food Boxes: Shawna reported that the first meeting will be soon and she will have more information. She is scheduled to preach on November 18th which is the scheduled drop-off date so she will need people to help with this. Parish Hall Rental: We were approached by a dance company hoping to rent the Parish Hall each Monday and Tuesday evening for their dance classes. The Vestry agreed that limited toilet facilities and the expense of heating and/or cooling would make this arrangement unfeasible. Kelly Mattson will contact the dance company to let them know. New Member Dinner There were about 32 RSVPs at last count. Vestry members signed up to bring specific side dishes. The meeting ended at 7:55 by saying the Lord's Prayer.

5 OCTOBER 2018 Page 5 PLANNING FOR UTILITY FAILURE Provided by Bob Burnz ELECTRICITY Following a disaster, check for damaged wiring within your home. Look for sparks or the smell of hot or burning insulation. If damaged, shut off the power at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Outside, consider all downed power lines as live. Do not touch downed lines or attempt to move any object in contact with them. Report any broken or damaged lines or poles. NATURAL GAS If an emergency occurs and you do not smell or hear escaping gas, you probably do not need to shut off your gas. Doing so may deprive you of service unnecessarily. If you do smell gas turn off the meter as follows: Episcopal Church of the Invites You To Our Annual HARVEST FESTIVAL Saturday, October 20th 5-7pm in the Parish Hall Chili Cook-Off Homebaked Breads & Cornbreads Hot & Cold Assorted Beverages, Homemade Pies & Dessert (Sign-up sheets in the Parish Hall) Locate the meter shut-off valve on the gas supply pipe. Use a wrench to turn the valve 1/4 turm so that the lever is cross-wise to the pipe. Once the gas is off, leave it off until a technician can turn it on. WATER After a disaster, water supplies may be cut off or contaminated. Below are water sources in the home that may be used for drinking. Hot Water Tank - Turn off the power that heats the tank and let it cool. Place a container below tank and open the drain valve. Water Pipes - Release air pressure by turning on the highest faucet in the home. Then drain the water from the lowest faucet. There will also be a silent auction to raise funds for the Caring Closet Ministry which provides soaps & toiletries for Be Our Guest attendees.

6 OCTOBER 2018 Page 6 LADIES TIME OUT Saturday, 10/27 JOIN US FOR CROP HUNGER WALK SUNDAY, OCT. 14 3:00 PM JULIA DAVIS PARK Join 20 area churches for Ada County CROP Hunger Walk. It will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 3:00 PM at the Julia Davis Park Pavilion #2. Registration starts at 2:30 PM. There is a 3.4 mile or a short loop on the green belt this year. Join us Saturday October 27th for an Autumn Drive Into The Country We will stop at two possibly three vineyards for wine tasting. Light snacks will be provided. Meet at church and there will be designated drivers so all can be safe and happy.
