1 Trinity NOTES May 8, 2016 Dear Sisters and Brothers It has been a while since there has been any movement on the development of the backyard (the area to the side of the chapel along Preston Avenue and behind the sanctuary and choir room. That is because after preliminary investigations two years ago it became clear that we would need a substantial amount of money to complete even the most basic of playgrounds and other improvements. Consequently, the vestry decided to consider this project as a part of a potential future capital campaign. Recently, Trinity received an anonymous gift and the promise of a another gift for this project. These two separate developments allow us to now take the next couple of steps toward making that space beautiful and usable. The first step is the development of a master plan for the backyard which includes the land on both sides of the fence. Ideas for this space have been around for several years. And while there are a number of different ideas which will be considered and possibly included, the two consistent elements and the major focus of the master plan will be: 1) An outdoor worship/gathering area with a) a focus on the worship garden b) shading for outdoor gatherings 2) Playground a) a play area for young children b) a play area for middle schoolers The landscape architectural firm of Wolf-Josey has been chosen to assist us with the first stage of this project. A small committee will be assembled to assist the vestry in its deliberations. Snacks and stuff provided! Next Garden Basics class on May 14, 2-5pm (this one is all about flowers!!) Free class offered at Trinity, taught by expert Master Gardeners, with demonstrations in the Bread & Roses gardens. Please see attached flier. A thank you note from our Master Gardener collaborators from the first Garden Basics class: Dear Trinity and Bread and Roses friends, Thank you so much for hosting the Piedmont Master Gardeners Garden Basics workshops for home gardeners. Your hospitality is heartwarming. Our very first workshop on April 23 welcomed 11 gardeners seeking information on growing their own vegetables. We all appreciated your fellowship hall but especially liked seeing the thriving beds outside and planting seeds and transplants as well. A special shout out for all of the help and encouragement from Martha Morris. We would love to have some Trinity folks in our May 14 class on flowers and Shrubs and the July 16 class on fall vegetable gardening. 4 NEW Small Group Study This exciting new six-session DVD study invites small groups and individuals to explore the lives of six Christian saints who risked all for the sake of the gospel. Like Jesus, each of the featured leaders were change agents in their times: the Subversive Bridge- Builder, Barnabas; the Lovable Rebel, Francis of Assisi; the Tightrope Walker, Thomas Cranmer; the Persevering Prophet, Sojourner Truth; the Idealistic Realist, Dorothy Day; and the People s Voice, Oscar Romero.
