3 Submitted by Fran Maza 2008 Convention report Friday, Saturday and Sunday we had excellent talks by the Rev. Gerald Keucher. He spoke on provocative stewardship. The goal being to get there together without guilt and no language of obligation. Tithe in whatever way that does not make you resentful. Giving of our time, treasure, and talents that come from the heart are what will keep our church family going. We opened with worship-report of credentials committee-greeting from the Southwestern Deanery-Greetings from Bishop Thom report of clergy activity-election of treasurer and Secretary Appointment of parliamentarian-appointment of Chancellor-Commission on Ministries-Election of standing committee and Diocesan Counciladoption of budget-presentation of resolutions and voting on same Banquet at Courtyard by Marriott Sunday convention Eucharist. We all got to know Bishop Brian Thom and enjoyed him very much. The Convention was very well presented and enjoyed by everyone. Your representatives were Priest: Rev. 6 6 From Daily Word Today's Daily Word - Wednesday, I November 26, 2008 Time Alone I am refreshed by my time-alone moments with God. Being with others in an audience--watching a play or a sports event--or gathering with friends and family as we enjoy dinner or a special occasion--adds to the fun and excitement of these times. However, I also need time alone to nourish my spirit, mind, and body. Giving myself a break from the usual routines and from ongoing holiday events and celebrations, I am physically and spiritually renewed. In the privacy of my own home or another quiet space, I spend time alone with God. Knowing the presence of God so completely in the moment, I have nothing to distract me. I am refreshed. Coming back to be with others, I appreciate them even more. Having time alone with God gives me, and them, a fresh start. "And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone."--matthew 14:23

12 12 October Vestry Highlights Don Mackey presented the Community Meals update. The Emmett Friendship Coalition has received a $ gift from the Wild Horse Community Garden. A new Mobil Refrigerator Trailer has been purchased and installed. Don attended Seminars in Boise on Feeding the Hungry. The new Automatic Chair Lift has been installed and ushers will be trained in its operation. Stewardship Ingathering will start on Sunday, Oct. 26 th. The Finance Committee will start to prepare the 2009 Budget for a Vestry vote on 11 th Dec. Bernie Maza will represent Sr. Warden Nancy Gedney at the Diocesan Convention. Two current vestry members are scheduled to be replaced, Nancy Gedney & Barbara Lackey. Nominations for new members will be sought from the congregation. Parishes will independently submit their UTO offerings this year. The fourth Sunday of each month will continue to be Youth Sunday. The Vestry voted to send a donation to the Lillian Valley School on the Ft. Hall Indian Reservation. The Consecration of Rev. Brian J. Thom as the 13 th Bishop of Idaho on the 11 th of October was attended by several members of St. Mary s. It was an inspirational ceremony.

15 WHY JESUS IS GREATER THAN SANTA CLAUS Santa lives at the North Pole. JESUS is everywhere. Santa rides in a sleigh. JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water. Santa comes but once a year. JESUS is an ever present help. Santa fills your stockings with goodies. JESUS supplies all your needs. Santa comes down your chimney uninvited. JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart when invited. You have to wait in line to see Santa. JESUS is as close as the mention of His name. Santa lets you sit on his lap. JESUS lets you rest in His arms. Santa doesn't know your name, all he can say is "Hi little boy or girl, what's your name?" JESUS knew your name before you did. Not only does He know your name, He knows your address too. He knows your history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on your head. Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly. JESUS has a heart full of love. All Santa can offer is HO HO HO. JESUS offers Health, Help and Hope. Santa says "You better not cry." JESUS says "Cast all your cares on me for I care for you." Santa's little helpers make toys. JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and builds mansions. Santa may make you chuckle but. JESUS gives you joy that is your strength. While Santa puts gifts under your tree. JESUS became our gift and died on a tree. Yes, from sin He sets us free! 15
