From the Rector... Dear Members of All Saints Parish Family, Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Philippians 4.4 St Paul s encouragement to the people of Philippi, echoes in our 21 st Century ears as a word in time. We celebrate God who always comes to us, for us. In His presence there is a fullness of joy [Psalm 16]. A prayer card in my Bible reminds me that Joy is the surest indication of the presence of God s Spirit. In August 2014, I embarked on the Missional Leadership and Formation Graduate Certificate Program through Wycliffe College, and, at the Convocation on 09 May, this spring, received the Certificate. It was a privilege to be a part of the first learning cohort for this program. I thank God, and I thank you, the saints of All Saints, for your support in prayer, in allowing me time away last summer, and in many other ways, so that I could complete the required courses. Thank you. Discussions continue around the future shape of ministry in Muskoka. After much consultation over the past few years, our Bishop has promised to bring, to the June Diocesan Executive [08-09 June], a plan for the way forward in our Deanery. This will be presented at our Deanery Council meeting which will be held at All Saints on the evening of Tuesday 14 June. Please continue to pray for grace, wisdom, patience and gentleness with one another, as we move forward as the Anglican Church in Muskoka. There are words of encouragement from the Book of Proverbs: Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs A natural human reaction is to become anxious about what the future may hold, and lose our peace of mind. It is good to call to mind the words of our Lord in His final instructions to His disciples [which we have been reading over the Easter Season] Jesus said, Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you; I do not give it to you as the world does. Do not let your hearts be distressed or lacking in courage. John We rejoice in all our saints, in all who have served our Lord from age to age, and all the faithful saints who are so much a part of the active fabric of our church life. We begin and end the month of June with Family Services. The first is on the regular 1 st Sunday [05 June] and the other is on the last Sunday [26 June at 10.30] at Avery Beach, followed with our Parish Picnic. Please plan to be part of the festivities. As our year ahead unfold there will be opportunities for mission and ministry, for worship and prayer and fellowship. So encourage let us each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. [1 Thessalonians 5.11] Praying for all of us the fullness of the Holy Spirit in all our lives, I remain, Yours, in the love of Jesus Christ, our living Lord and Saviour The Venerable Dawn Henderson + Rector

From the Wardens How refreshing it is to finally see the arrival of Spring in Huntsville and the sense of renewal that this brings. This note is being written on Victoria Day as the sun is shining and the birds are nesting and those unfortunate souls who can only be here for the weekend are heading South. How lucky we are to live in Muskoka! On behalf of you all, we offer sincere congratulations to our Rector, The Ven. Dawn Henderson for earning her Graduate Certificate in Missional Leadership and Formation from Wycliffe College in Toronto. A good part of her sabbatical leave last summer was dedicated to this effort which may account for what we have heard through the grapevine: that she finished at the top of her class! We continue to be on target to close the sale of property on River Street next month and which will allow us to proceed with our building project for new bathroom facilities and an expanded Foyer. Our Property Committee is in final discussions with the contractor to bring this project within budget. Our financial position remains fairly stable although we do wish to remind you that as summer vacations occur and schedules change, our expenses carry on. We therefore appreciate your continued support in the months ahead. Our Parish Advisory Committee has been meeting faithfully and are presently undertaking a process of examining the strengths, challenges and opportunities for our Parish. The Wardens are also reviewing other policies including a zero tolerance policy on bullying, consistent with the Diocesan Policy on this issue. The Executive Committee of the Diocese will be meeting in early June and from that should come details regarding the election of the next Bishop of Algoma. We will also have an opportunity to say goodbye to Bishop Stephen Andrews and his wife Fawna, when they visit our Parish in July. Respectfully, The Wardens Barb W, Hugh M, Sue D, Patty P Sunshine Club enjoying Tea and entertainment at Rogers Cove on May 10, 2016, sponsored by Chartwell Rogers Cove. As well as Devotions and a lovely Tea, the ladies enjoyed a round of 'jokes' and winning fun gifts from the Penny (non) Sale.

The PAC met in May and continued work on a SWOT Analysis. A SWOT Analysis is a tool used to strategize for the future and includes listing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. We have listed all of the SWOT's and are now moving to the step of ranking each in order of importance; this step will form the basis of what we will work on going forward. The good news is that because of a very engaged parish advisory council we have been able to already move toward some actionable items, for instance the following activities have made it to our actionable items for the near future: 1. Pursue a Vacation Bible School for younger saints. 2. Confirmation of a special service to honour emergency first responders together with a Luncheon after 10:00 am on September 11, Holding a fundraiser on September 24th which will include musical entertainment 4. Considering a Palooza for November 5th that would be held in Sutherland Hall 5. Participate in Ride for Refuge fundraiser for All Saints set for October 1st These are just some of the activities and actionable items that have come out of our SWOT analysis work; there is more to come! If one of these initiatives appeal to you please let one of the PAC committee members know as we need volunteers to make these activities successful realities; we feel that these activities will allow All Saints to continue to live our Parish Vision which is As Worshippers of the Living God, We Hear, Proclaim, Live His Word and in Love Bring People to Jesus. Sue D, Chair PAC Pastoral Care Pastoral Care continues to meet on the first Monday of the month. Delivery of cards, flowers, telephone calls, home visits and prayers are ongoing. Love in Christ, Betty-Lou D, Chair Pastoral Care

PWRDF announces new Executive Director Will Postma was announced as PWRDF's new Executive Director today. Photo: Simon Chambers TORONTO William Postma has been appointed executive director of the Primate s World Relief and Development Fund, Archbishop Fred Hiltz, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, announced today. Hiltz, president of the board of PWRDF, said Postma will begin June 13. He succeeds Adele Finney, who is retiring after 5 1/2 years at the helm of the Canadian Anglican agency for emergency relief, refugees, development and justice. Postma comes to PWRDF from a long career in non- governmental organizations, including Save the Children Canada, World Vision, Christian Reformed World Relief Committee and most recently Pathways to Education, where he was vice-president, programs and research. We look forward to working with Will because of his wide and varied experience in areas of concern to PWRDF, said Maureen Lawrence, vice-president of the board, who led the search committee. We anticipate that his leadership will build on the work in place and enhance the reputation that PWRDF enjoys both nationally and internationally. Postma also served as chair of Citizens for Public Justice, a national organization of members inspired by faith to act for justice in Canadian public policy. PWRDF supports 58 partners in 22 countries in programs of food security, health care, especially maternal, newborn and child health, poverty reduction, human rights and peace. PWRDF provides relief in disasters such as the recent earthquake in Ecuador and accompaniment to refugees and displaced persons. In Canada PWRDF works with First Nations in efforts such as the Water Project Pikangikum. On Monday 09 May 2016, Ven Dawn Henderson, Archdeacon of Muskoka and Rector of All Saints Huntsville, and Rev d Kelly Baetz, Regional Dean of Muskoka and Rector of St Thomas Bracebridge, each received their MLF [Missional Leadership and Formation] Graduate Certificate from Wycliffe College, Toronto. Course work began August 2014 and concluded this past April. Bishop Stephen Andrews [newly appointed Principal of Wycliffe] was on-hand for the convocation. Also, at the convocation, was the Rev d Aidan Armstrong, newly appointed incumbent of the Manitoulin Island Parishes, who received his M.Div.

PWRDF This is Ministry! The Anglican response to the Fort McMurray fires May 13, 2016 By Simon Chambers Left: The Bold Centre in Lac La Biche, AB, is serving as an emergency shelter for evacuees from Fort McMurray. Photo: Diocese of Edmonton. Right: Clive and Deborah Scheepers (left) talking with evacuees at the Bold Centre in Lac La Biche, AB. Photo: Diocese of Edmonton On May 12, PWRDF sent an initial $6000 to the Diocese of Edmonton for immediate relief needs for evacuees of the Fort McMurray fires. This is in addition to the $15,000 PWRDF announced last week for the Diocese of Athabasca. These funds will help parishes like St. John the Evangelist, Cold Lake, whose clergy began responding as soon as families began to arrive in their community with little more than the clothes on their backs. Rev. Donna Gauthier (PWRDF parish representative at St. John s, Cold Lake) and Rev. Helen Northcott from Cold Lake have provided pastoral care, necessary items to families who lost everything, hosted barbeques, and invited evacuees to come to the parish s spring rummage sale last weekend and just take any items they needed. Diocese of Athabasca priests Deborah and Clive Scheepers have been helping with chaplaincy work at the Bold Centre in Lac La Biche since it opened as an emergency reception centre, as well as ministering in Athabasca. We re tired at the end of the day, they said. But it s a good tired. This is ministry. Anglicans in Canada and around the world continue to provide prayers and support for those affected by the fires. St. Timothy s, North Toronto has raised over $5000 in relief funds for Fort McMurray, and the Rev. Eric Beresford assures PWRDF that people are continuing to give. Individuals, parishes, and dioceses are supporting PWRDF s appeal, providing funds that will continue to allow the dioceses of Athabasca and Edmonton to respond to the needs of evacuees. This is ministry. It is the work of the Church, and the ministry of PWRDF to provide relief to those in need, comfort to the suffering, and to walk and work alongside the people affected by this or any disaster as they rebuild their communities and their lives. You can support PWRDF s ongoing relief efforts in Alberta and you can designate your for Fort McMurray wild fire. 9 The Anglican Communion Compass Rose Society {On Thursday, May 12, 2016, "Afternoon Tea" and an information session on The Compass Rose Society was held at All Saints' Parish Hall in Huntsville. The Rt Reverend Andrew Doyle [below right] IX Bishop of Texas & President, The Compass Rose Society, and The Rt Reverend Philip Poole [below left], Area Bishop for the York-Credit Valley Episcopal Area in the Diocese of Toronto and Past-President of the Society, gave an informative presentation to a gathering of people from the Deanery of Muskoka about the Compass Rose Society which supports the global ministry of the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Anglican Communion. Both our guests presented interesting insights into the importance of the Compass Rose Society's support for the work of the Anglican Communion's ministries throughout the world working toward world-wide reconciliation. Some of those present expressed an interest in forming a Muskoka chapter. Bishops Doyle and Poole presented the Venerable Dawn Henderson, Archdeacon of Muskoka Deanery, and Rector of All Saints' Anglican Church, Huntsville with a hand-held cross, specifically crafted for the Compass Rose society, by one of the Society's members, a businessman in Hong Kong. Long-time member of All Saints, Lillian G [far left], receives well-deserved recognition from Royal Canadian Legion Branch 232, Huntsville, Ontario.

The provenance of these items makes them very desirable. Cliff F made the crosses that are for sale as well as the deacon's bench. Norm L helped with the crosses. The crosses come in four sizes as seen in the poster [below] and are priced accordingly at $5, $8, $10 and $20. 16 Matthew 14:22-33 JESUS and a Dark and Stormy Night But Jesus spoke to them at once. Don t be afraid, he said. Take courage. I am here! [Matthew 14:27] said Come. and over the side of the boat Peter went. Peter was fine at first as long as he kept his eyes on Jesus. But then, instead of looking at Jesus, he began to look at the height of the waves and the strength of the wind. And as he took his eyes off Jesus, he was afraid and started to sink. Help me, Lord! Jesus reached out His hand and pulled up Peter out of the waves. And then Jesus asked Peter why he had doubted. Have you ever been in a boat on a lake when the wind has blown up suddenly? That happened one night to the disciples of Jesus. One night, Jesus sent the disciples across the lake, called the Sea of Galilee, while Jesus Himself stayed on the shore to pray. When a storm blew up, Jesus followers feared for their lives. That storm must have been extremely fierce because they were experienced fishermen who would have dealt with many other storms! The disciples battled the waves and winds for many hours. In the middle of the night they saw a most amazing sight Jesus walking across the waves coming towards their boat! They were more afraid of this sight than they were of the storm and they cried out, It s a ghost! But as Jesus came closer to their boat, He spoke calmly to them and said, Don t be afraid. I am here. Peter, one of the disciples, challenged Jesus: Lord, if it is really You, tell me to walk to You on the water! Jesus As Jesus and Peter climbed back in to the boat together, the storm suddenly stopped. When the disciples realized that Jesus had the power to walk on water, save Peter, and stop a storm, they worshipped Him and said, You really are the Son of God! They learned that when Jesus was with them, there was no need to be afraid. And it s a good lesson for us too: trust Jesus.
